Get some tv money if we play Wrexham

It’s hard to say, isn’t it? I was convinced that Plymouth at home was the worst possible draw, given the contrast between our home and away form at the time, and here we are, in the second round having spanked them 5-1. No one would have predicted that.

Likewise, the likes of Alvechurch, Farnborough and Chippenham all find themselves in the draw following unlikely league scalps, while we’ve also been knocked out by lower league opposition the past two seasons. Those games are rarely the cake walk they ought to be, as Plymouth learned the hard way yesterday.

With that in mind, a draw at home against a struggling side in your own division is probably the sweet spot in terms of prospects on paper and the pressures of expectation. Harrogate at home would be quite nice on that basis.

They won’t be shown live again as they’ve been on today.

Sheff Wed at home, full house and possible TV money.

And a free hit as we will be massive underdogs.

Stick to the successful formula of a home match against the team furthest away geographically.

Get some roadworks set up on the A180 and divert them via a few ford villages in the Wolds.

Weymouth, Ebbsfleet…Chippenham?

I’ve thought about this a bit more and if we can’t have an easy draw at home then let’s go large away, which for me would be Wednesday, did the gaffer drop the hint he’s a Wednesday supporter on RH last night?

When we win we can all go round to Mr Croxton’s house afterwards as I know he’s local to Hillsborough if memory serves me right.

Just seen that the draw for the next round tomorrow evening
is being held at one of those non league clubs that have made it through...

Yes.....you have guessed it....

Hurst is a Wednesday supporter - there’s no hints required.

He’s got a pet tawny owl called Hirst for a start.

FFS.

Sick of hearing about Wrexham. They haven't even done anything of note football wise.

Ah yes, not alvechurch or Chippenham who’d love the recognition amd limelight, as well as cash, instead they go to a team famous for one cup win against arsenal way back when…

We need to be in the the third round and having hammered the top seed in the last round we should be confident but I would take Chippenham at home

Wrexham are the new Salford. Fu(k all anyone can do about it.
No point being p1ss3d off about it.

It’s going to be an interesting draw tomorrow night. Winnable tie and you are through to being picked against the big boys.

Chippenham at home.
Easier draw and tell me that they won’t choose Chippenham for TV coverage. Bound to

Incredibly lazy work by the BBC, they're months behind with this narrative and believe mistakenly that it's some kind of new story that everyone outside of North Wales might be interested in..

We need them knocked out now otherwise it will become wall to wall unbearable. All that needs to happen is that they play a side who are decent from set pieces and have a player with a long throw.

Wrexham away wouldn’t be a bad draw, we’ll get on the telly so I can watch the game. Moreover, we’re a better side now and we beat them when we weren’t quite as good.

Or as that getting a bit beyond ourselves wanting to be their party poopers again?

Let’s leave that playoff game as a stand-alone moment of footballing perfection!

Great idea. I've swept the leaves from the front and tidied the patio. It may have to be just soup, jacket potatoes and garlic bread with Bradfield Ales and coffee but it would be an opportunity for South Yorkshire exiles to meet up pre match too. Street parking available and toilet at rear of garage.

Come on guys, seriously... Obviously it'll be at Wrexham, the BBC have just finished wanking off the players and owners, no point travelling elsewhere may as well stay for a cuddle tonight and do the draw tomorrow, less travelling

Not Wrexham
Been there done that
Easy (on paper) home draw please
Or Owls away
(Detest the BBC by the way)

Well, it looks like there are 9 non-league teams definitely through, and about 8 going to a replay (numbers worked out after a quick scan through. Could be wrong) but that means 17 of the 20 matches in the next round 'could' have a non league team. I'd be disappointed if we didn't get lower league opposition, but if we can annihilate the top seed in round 1, we should fear no one.

Just watching the highlights now and only just realised how many non league teams have gone through to round 2! I wonder what the record number is?

I think it’s great that so many non league teams have gone through.

That said, Wrexham would be an horrific draw. We’ve spoilt their party, we did it in their own back yard. Leave them to fester on that.  I don’t want some boring revenge thing and I can’t sit through another Phil Parkinson team for 90 minutes..:

14, set all the way back in 1975. With Barnet v Chelmsford having gone to a replay we’re guaranteed at least 10 this season, but it’s unlikely that record will be matched or broken.

Non league would be good but not Alvechurch.  Would like them to have another scalp at least.  They looked good on the highlights and they had a fair few fans.

Wow, thanks for that. It's brilliant and unless they're playing town. I hope they progress further.

I want the easiest team still in it so we have a chance at an away Premier League team for:

1. Potential TV money
2. 50% of the gate

Somewhere in London and the SE away, for purely selfish reasons. Win that and then Tottenham/Arsenal away is what we're after.

Then Man Yoo away in the 3rd round.  :)

In case you didn't know the draw is at 7pm live on BBC2. We are number 11 (which sounds quite sexy). Sheff Wed are no 17. Barnsley no 2. My memory won't stretch to more than 3 numbers so those are the ones I will be looking for.

1. Forest Green Rovers
2. Barnsley
3. Boreham Wood
4. Curzon Ashton or Cambridge United
5. Dagenham & Redbridge
6. Accrington Stanley
7. Solihull Moors or Hartlepool United
8. AFC Fylde or Gillingham
9. Peterborough United or Salford City
10. Farnborough
11. Grimsby Town
12. Milton Keynes Dons
13. Ebbsfleet United
14. Carlisle United AFC
15. Bracknell Town or Ipswich Town
16. Chippenham Town
17. Sheffield Wednesday
18. Portsmouth
19. Shrewsbury Town
20. Buxton
21. Charlton Athletic
22. Weymouth or AFC Wimbledon
23. Newport County AFC
24. Stockport County
25. King’s Lynn Town
26. Stevenage
27. Fleetwood Town
28. Burton Albion
29. Harrogate Town
30. Exeter City
31. Torquay United or Derby County
32. Bristol Rovers
33. Walsall
34. Wrexham AFC
35. Crewe Alexandra
36. Barnet or Chelmsford City
37. Woking or Oxford United
38. Chesterfield
39. Alvechurch
40. Mansfield Town

I'd like a non league team at home or away or a bigger club likes Jeff w away... But watch us get stevenage away or Exeter at home or some excrement.

We need to be careful what we wish for.  Sometimes we take our foot off the gas against teams that we should beat.

We have lost to Lower-league teams.  Even at home to part-time Salisbury in an FAC replay (a team a division lower than us).  We were actually ahead in extra-time.  We still lost before penalties.

We took the lead early on against a very poor Hartlepool.  The bottom team.  Still lost.

Against the clear top team in Div 1 - we won easily.  They might be concentrating on promotion and played a weakened team.  But we played excellent football and scored very good goals.  Plymouth would not want to have been humiliated by a lower-Division team.

We play better and get good results against higher-ranked teams in one-off games.  Look at the 3 playoff games last season, (Even if some people disagree with this, we will not be drawn against a team ranked as high as Plymouth).

Curzon/Cambridge v Grimsby.

In the unlikely event that Curzon beat Cambridge the game could be picked for TV so not all bad.
Posted by: pontoonlew, November 7, 2022, 7:19pm; Reply: 48
Would’ve liked better but it’s not the worst draw. Both winnable games for different reasons, we’re a good away side and Saturday will have us thinking we can go on a cup run.

Most important thing is that we’re in round 3 however possible.
Posted by: immariner, November 7, 2022, 7:22pm; Reply: 49
Chippenham and Alvechurch will be really disappointed. Going to the 2 smallest clubs, other than maybe Accrington, in League 1. I'm sure their players will be looking forward to pitting thenselves against League 1 sides again but no real payday unless they pull off a shock
