Town drew 0-0 with Villa in the first leg of our Rumbelows Cup game at BP, on the way to knocking them out on away goals at Villa Park.

But perhaps the big event was:

It was a different time.

What a great away win.

You would not want to put that TV in the toilet these days.

I'm pretty sure I remember Gary Childs winning a kitchen wall clock for being MOTM in a Rumbelows Cup game.

Coca Cola (in)famously gave away mountain bikes and leather jackets as motm prizes when they sponsored the League Cup!

Can we please move into the 21st century and use the correct terminology, it’s now “ player of the match”!!!

That Futch hand ball would have been a definite penalty these days if not back then.

Another great night to always look back on. I have the club's cup highlights DVD of that match as well as other great games.

We didn't actually win away. We drew 0-0 at home and 1-1 away and went through on away goals.

I was at Villa Park that night. Smith had a great game at full back. Special night.

Best thing about that Villa clip is how absolutely gutted Kevin Richardson is.

Can't imagine that level of investment in the League Cup from top flight teams these days.

That's correct Les

Those two legged ties are of course not an option any more.... because the PL don't like them  :-/

I was just saying to a bloke here at work, the stewards were threatening to throw us out because we were on the back row of the stand and when we stood up those in the boxes behind us couldn't see ( one being a certain snooker professional, Mike Hallett in the box, not a steward of course ;) )

The trouble is everyone from lower down in the stand stood up and so to see the game we had to stand ourselves, not that we were listened to   ::)
