I feel GrimRob should get rid of the cumulative like /dislike counter. At times this forum is starting to feel like gangs eg your the left side of politics and your the right side of politics eg your my friend or your not my friend and Iam going to give you a like or dislike more or less based on that as opposed to what you really post.  I know there is a button that you can turn this feature off but it's still a major flaw with this forum.

I doubt Robb will change it but I feel it seriously undermines this forum big style. I sense this forum for some is a lifeline eg acts as form of community . I know Facebook and Instagram have followed suit as well eg giving you the option to hide the like/ dislike button over concerns on people's well being.

I knew that Ska but overall as noted still feel Robb should take the cumulative like/ dislike counter off. Overall it's a good forum with some good debate but like life things can always be improved.

I know it’s human nature but people never bellyache demanding to know reasons why, when they’re getting ‘likes’. So I would apply the same logic to red crosses too.  If you don’t like approval or more accurately disproval then switch the function off.

But if you take it off then it isn't there for you to see.

Appreciate the comment Sandford but  still genuinely feel if Robb took the cumulative like/ dislike button off regardless if you can turn it off or on this forum would be so much better .

There's some good people on here and even the ones I don't always agree with I still share something common with and that is a interest in Grimsby Town football club. And then there is that saying as well which is golden eg you can only judge someone unless you have been in their shoes. Hence there's reasons for why people are the way they are.

Sometimes it’s easier for people to leave a red cross than write a lengthy tome arguing about some of the objectionable guff you post, so maybe leaving it as it is would save people having to trawl through the alternative.

Fair comment Ska face  but that can be applied to anyone. Hence you can pick holes by and large with whatever someone posts. As human beings we are all flawed to one degree or other .

I think some posters are a little on edge at present about the lack of centre midfielders so I wouldn’t take it personally. It’s nothing to worry about though as we will sign someone - be it loan or perm.

I had a minor meltdown on the non-football forum the other day and I can sense that Humbercod is very upset about missing out on Dom Telford.

😁🙂. As noted I am no leftist or right winger but have tended to always like your style Knut's.  God bless you my friend.

Someone has red crossed my previous post, I’ve offered my opinion and someone doesn’t like it, or the way I expressed it. Fair play and I won’t give it much more thought.
Although well intentioned on your part, your solution wouldn’t solve the problem either, or at least not totally anyway.
All of what you list as the negative effects of it can be achieved through replying with a direct message.
If I were you I would effect the change you can make yourself (and switch it off) and effectively you’ve achieved part of your aim at least.

Maybe it should be an ‘opt in’ rather than ‘opt out’ if it’s gonna bother people that much

I actually thought it was more along the lines of agree/disagree with a post but anyway...
Too many people these days are coming away from schools, colleges, universities with a huge sense of self entitlement instilled into them.
So much so that they cannot take or even understand the fact that their own point of view might or even should be challenged and that's why we now have the so called cancel culture.
Where once young men drove Spitfires and took shelter in trenches at the sound of bombs we now have young men who possibly don't even identify as men crying in their safe spaces and sobbing because someone else has the audacity to have a different opinion.
Yes the cancel culture seems to have reached the Fishy Forum,  I don't like my feelings being hurt so keep me safe from all those nasty people who red cross my posts.
What a load of balderdash.

I get where your coming from and agree to a fair degree but feel some things like politics can warp people's agendas. As someone once told me with religion and politics you can't discuss as it's so decisive and indeed people are getting murdered all over the world now,and throughout history for these differing views .

I blocked the red crosses years ago.

Far to many people on here seeking green crosses and giving red crosses for no reason.  A mix bunch of sad individuals unfortunately.

Still. Its just a red or green tick. Never really bothered me but I chose to block them as they serve to purpose to me or my opinions.

Plus. Its fairly easy to see through the forum code who has disliked comments. It shocked me really....

I completely understand Aaron, it’d be weird liking photos of your mother.
Especially the specialist snaps I’ve got of her.

Chatting to a friend at the weekend and we noticed I have a few people that'll red cross my post regardless of what I write  ;D

But as ska said, if you don't like it just get rid of it on your account. Everyone wins.

I know the majority of people red cross for the right reasons ie disagreeing with the poster, but there are also a percentage who just do it out of spite or to get a reaction, and they are the ones who want outing.

By all means keep the ticks/crosses/gold stars but make it viewable as to who has done what, that way those who are habitual red crossers cant hide behind their nom de plume.

As I said, most people are genuine with their reasons, but for those who red cross posts about raising money for charities or about fans/players we have lost seriously need their heads looking at, and to know who they are would be a plus so their anonymity is no more.

Message to the habitual red crossers....feel free to have your 10 seconds of spitefulness. I turned mine off a long time ago so your efforts are needless.

Maybe that was tongue in cheek but doesn't it demonstrate what the original poster was referring to -nothing to do with the content of the post but the poster.

Not sure what the fuss is all about here. The ticks and crosses allow you to show you agree or disagree with a post, and are far easier to share your view than having to write a full post, or even clog up the thread with a series of short replies saying Agree or Disagree.

For those who don’t like them, they can be turned off.

Couple the lack of centre mids with no away or third strip being available in the club shop and you've got a bonfire of adult tears erupting into this absolute fury.

Life would be a pretty boring arena if we all agreed with each other or just played the ‘party card’ in order to maintain the status quo.  Disagreement is a perfectly natural human trait so why not have a means of conveying opinion without having to confront, which many are too polite to do?

Reaction to negative opinion is what matters.  In relation to our great club I think we can all agree that we’ve witnessed at first hand just how destructive refusal to accept criticism has been.  Appreciate that it’s still relatively early days but what we’re witnessing now is an acceptance that without constructive criticism, positive change is never realised.

I give numerous green ticks to posts that I agree with or support.  this contrasts with other posts not given ticks. A form of voting that is less severe.

I very rarely give a Red Cross.  Encouragement is better than criticism.

Maybe an additional box(amber) to press between the green and red, giving a broader spread of what people think to a post.

Just to point out the logic of some of the " red crossing". On another thread about how promotion is worth about £1 million to us. The opening post just states, in one sentence, that quote that appeared in the GET and somebody has red crossed it which implies that they don't agree with that figure - how bizarre!
