Good luck to him. Think he’s a decent defender but obviously wanted to be closer to home. Glad we got a fee.

Sort of never fitted in with the PH agenda of wanting players who wanted to be here. Good luck to him closer to home.

So Long-King.

Good move for both parties and made room for another centre back. (Andy Smith?)

Ooh, I hope so.

DLK just looked a bit cumbersome on the couple of occasions that I saw him play but perhaps that was just because he hadn't settled in. I suspect he'll be a lot happier back down south (and perhaps back in the National League).

I just assumed we'd let him go for free to be honest, so pleasantly surprised by the (undisclosed) fee.  Good business by the club, a sign that we're playing the market well.

Looked solid in the few games he played for us and should be more comfortable down south.  Good luck to him.

Unlikely that we'd have got a transfer fee per se for him, terms probably mean settling the remainder of his contract, if anything we would have probably had to pay a certain amount out as he'll likely be on less at D&R.

Good luck DLK!

Anyway, good move for everyone. If we could get Smith back that would be fantastic. Hopefully he gets a start in a Hull friendly and has a bit of a Towler!

Thought he looked ok on the few times i saw him play.

But clearly was unlikely to feature in Hurst's plans considering he loaned him out all last season.

Clears up some wages to hopefully bring in another CB. Think we need another to compete alongside Maher, Waterfall & Pearson.

He was loaned out because he couldn't stand the area, he thought it was a dump so he wanted to go back down south.

He was crap and never going to be good enough for L2 so pleased to get rid of him . And a fee ( albeit a small one to reflect his ability no doubt) which will help pay some wages
Posted by: scott, July 7, 2022, 4:37pm; Reply: 19
What do we think the fee was. My guess is between 5 and 15k. I can't imagine it would be much more as we probably are just happy to get him off the books.
Posted by: WayneBurnettsJockstrap, July 7, 2022, 4:38pm; Reply: 20
Its interesting to note, and to confirm Hurstys decision to let them go, that the majority of those who were released when their contracts were up, have signed for teams further down the pyramid.

Another reason to trust Hurst to make these decisions. He obviously could see that they were not a viable option for league 2, and also the majority were not good enough to play in the National League either.

I would imagine the 'undisclosed' fee would be an absolute minimum amount, but then again do the buying team still have to buy up the remainder of his contract including wages, which I would summise as being maybe £500 a week? That could mean upto £25k if it does.

Good luck to him, not sure I get all of the negative comments on here though.

He was big enough to say he wasn’t happy and wanted away, not sure there’s anything wrong with that as long as a player behaves and isn’t disruptive and I don’t think there is evidence of that here.

You would imagine we’ll see a new arrival soon I guess.

With players moving, I'm always surprised how nasty some comments are.

So here is a question:  How do you know DLK  "never wanted to be here" ? Had he tweeted that?
PH had signed him and didn't find a place for him in the playing squad. He takes some of the blame surely? It happens.
Looking at his tweets, it's all praise and thanks for the Club and Fans. So why the static?

Yeah, I don't get the negativity either. All the best to him. Came back to training with the squad even though he knew he wasn't in PH's plans. Praised the fans in a Tweet today too.

He was in the team at the start of the season, got injured and couldn't get back in and rather than fight for his place it was easier to go out on loan, and at the same time have a pop about the area nothing to do etc.

I thought it was funny that when he came back hardly any of the players spoke to him.

You have a strange definition of 'nasty'.

He didn't like the area and wanted to go back down south, hence his loan back to Woking and subsequent move to Dagenham.

My post merely reflected that.

Besides, he was signed for non league and wouldn't have made the jump to league 2 anyway in my opinion.

At least we are not stuck paying his wages for another year while he sat in the stands, so fair play to him for seeking a move.

Just had a look at his career and he was bouncing around teams down the pyramid from the National League until Newport signed him from St Albans. He managed 11 appearances for Newport before going back into non league with us, which for me suggests the league below is about his level.

Doesn't hang around for any length of time at any of his clubs either.

Good luck to him. Sometimes it doesn't work out for players here, the ones from London or around there probably have a harder time adjusting to the culture shock than players from Yorkshire and further north do lol. Quite a nice chap and a bit of a character around the club but clearly wasn't happy and homesick so went on loan.

Glad for both him and the club that the deal seems to have worked out for all parties.

Dictionary :-  Nasty  1) very bad or unpleasant.  2)  behaving in an unpleasant or spiteful way.   Sound familiar?

"Besides, he was signed for non league and wouldn't have made the jump to league 2 anyway in my opinion."  It's a fair comment, so why the nasty bit first.

"At least we are not stuck paying his wages for another year while he sat in the stands"         Isn't that a PH issue? I assume DLK would have played if asked.

Not sure where you work, but I'm sure you don't have to live with this kind of abuse.

Criticism is one thing, but piling onto someone is appalling.

I’m surprised by the negative assessment by a number of posters on here. In the games I saw him play, I thought he did well. He started the season but got injured early on, and Towler was brought in. Towler, and then Smith, both played at a level about the Conference, giving DLK little opportunity to play.

If you aren’t playing, it will be harder to settle, and so no surprise that he sought a loan and now permanent move back to the London area.

He did nothing wrong in my mind, and I wish him well for the future.

Good luck to DLK

The way the club have dealt with this and with Scannell has to be a positive.

We identified last year that DLK wasn’t happy in the area and sorted a loan move. We then haven’t stood in his way and allowed him to move on.

With scans we’ve supported him through injuries and have given him a contract to allow him to return to fitness at and supported by the club rather than casting him aside.

I’m sure that football is a small industry and this type of behaviour from the club as an employer will get round potential employees. It’s only going to increase the chances of a player wanting to come if they know they’ll be looked after.

Yep that'd be my assessment of him too and that was NL level, although he did look like he was strong and decent in the air, no way good enough for league 2 and I'd be wanting better even at 4th choice to be honest. Very pleasantly surprised at getting actual real money for him too! Well done GTFC.

However it seems its probably in his interest to move on too and at least he would rather be at a club he is playing at than sat on his backside, and if it's better location wise for him then everyone's a winner, which isn't always the case.

I'd be delighted to get towler or smith back although I'd be a bit surprised too as it would be a real battle for them against (probably) maher for a starting place.

You make that sound like we were a caring club to let him go but he was clearly not good enough and not in Paul Hurst's plans so the club are probably delighted to have him off our books and hopefully saving a year's salary from someone who was very unlikely to play for us again.

It was no surprise to see him head to Woking on loan and it's no surprise to see him go to Dag & Red. Andy Smith as his replacement please.
