The shirt looks good, although the lack of a Young's logo will take some getting used to

It does look weird somehow, doesn’t it? However, once you remind yourself that we were absolute dógshit for the vast majority of the Young’s era (not their fault, I know), it’s easier to get your head around.

Really nice. Would prefer a white back on it but we can’t have one every year. I hope the other two are as nice!

How about black and white stripes on the back? Or am I being too old school?

At least this one does have some stripes on the back in the lower part of the shirt. That one a couple of seasons ago under Jolley / Holloway looked like we were playing in an all black strip from behind.

Obv stripes first but it must be ten years since we had one and people would be less inclined to pay for printing if we had them. Prefer white back over the black back personally.

Love it. Looks crisp and simple, while also having some subtle detail, like the silhouette of the three fish.

I'm pleased the green on the logo is minimalist.

It's also reminiscent of the Bluecrest top from the 80s, as someone else mentioned, which gives it a retro touch.

From the promotional video the undercollar looks like a bit like a priest's dog collar, but that's just nit-picking.

The lad will be getting one for his birthday!

Always thought lower league clubs have missed a trick with this, if buy one every year is they did long sleeve.

They must’ve made that video last night, drove past BP about half 9 and the floodlights were on…

Decent kit to be fair…

It is a bit clerical. Why is the fish/trawler red not the same as the trim red? Can only blame Macron for that one.

If the promo had been done in a previous era then probably the lights would have been out and torches used.

Never thought I would see the colour green on a Town shirt (bad luck and all that) just saying.

I've always preferred a V-neck kit, myself. This one is a bit fussy.

Not the end of the world, though.

Well me Mam used to braid nets for the fishing boats and I'd fill the needles for her for some pocket money. I can clearly remember lots of the finished nets being.... green!

Do we know whether the alternate colours - 2nd/3rd shirt - will be different to the blue/red of last season?

Not sure , (I wonder if we have the option to change socks and shorts like Stoke.?)    I've spent years explaining to  other supporter's  about  lack of green, so disappointed  it's included.   I expect to be in the minority , green on shirt, flag on trawler  , perhaps I'm too much of a traditionist.  End of the day it's the player inside the shirt that's important.

That's so that they couldn't be seen (by the fish).
The exact reason fishermen wouldn't wear green, so they could be seen if they fell in the water.

Like the look of the neck - wonder if it'll be consistent across 2nd and 3rd kits - but concerned that it could sag and lose shape pretty quickly. Much prefer this or a round neck (1998 Avec shirts...) than collar or v-neck. All down to personal likes and dislikes though eh?

Personally I really like it APART from the black band going all the way around - would look much better if it stopped at the black vertical stripes. I also agree that the green on the sponsor does clash a bit, might look better if logo was all white on the black background - but my energi might have required the green for brand recognition or something.

Let me start by saying that the last 13 months under our new owners has been absolutely fantastic. Without a doubt, the only season which gets close in my Town supporting life in terms of entertainment value is ‘98, and to see the life that has been breathed back into the club and town is just brilliant.

Jason, Andrew and Debbie (plus everyone else concerned) deserve so much credit for what they’ve achieved in such a short space of time, not least in getting us back in the football league.

But, in the spirit of constructive feedback, there are little things like this that still aren’t quite ‘textbook’. Textbook would have been getting the shirts on sale before the final, or if not possible, soon after. To see photos on Twitter of people queuing up outside the club shop to collect season tickets, but not yet having the new shirts on sale, just seems like a missed opportunity.

All minor in the big scheme of things, of course.

To be fair I think they said they would keep the old shirts to allow Youngs their moment in the sun as reward for all those years of sponsorship.

A classy thing to do.

It's not like the time-frame for shirt release was set a month ago. It was only yesterday that they said the new shirt would be available for online sales today and it's past 4PM and the shirt isn't on sale yet.

It's amateur.

How difficult is it to get the kick-off times right? We had the same issue last season around daylight saving. All the winter fixtures are showing as 4PM or 8:45PM kick-offs.

Oh and they have missed the Walsall & Newport County stadium names.

The club really do seen to, hopefully by incompetence rather than design, treat exiles with contempt don’t they?

Every size of the new shirt sold out online.

If online sales are heavily restricted at least do the “pre-sale” for season ticket holders only. Or just don’t bother at all if you’re only making a handful of shirts available in each size.

Presale should be selling the shirt blind before it’s launched, not lazily putting a handful of shirts online at closing time and going home to avoid questioning phone calls and emails from disappointed exiles.

Agree with Golly. Making a shirt available for click and collect online with only a limited supply available was only ever going to go one way wasn’t it? I got an email as an STH yesterday to say that local STHs were being asked nicely to go into the shop to go and get one today but only after I’d ordered my shirt for collection.

It’s a similar situation to the away tickets the other week - shopping habits have changed and if it’s available online for click and collect then people are going to opt for it to prevent wasted journeys.

Has promotion and not knowing what league we would be in had an impact on proceedings this close season?

Add to that the shorter window, with the season finishing late and the new one starting earlier than usual. Then there's been the unprecedented demand for tickets and merchandise, along with a change of sponsor.

Not making excuses here, but they are on a learning curve as football club owners and hopefully they will sort the issues, as they seem to do with everything eventually.

We are back in the  league, so I will cut them some slack.

I really don’t understand why every year the club seem to under order on shirts. It’s such a missed opportunity. And then fans always have to wait weeks and weeks before being able to get one as there are manufacturing delays, and by then we’re well into the season and it’s barely worth it.

Do they under order “every” year? How can you truly gauge demand?

Every retailer especially fashion sells out of things. Buying a load of stuff up front at would be the highest cost price hoping you’ll sell it sometimes isn’t the best thing to do.

We consistently sell out/more or less sell out of shirts at the start of every pre season. So perhaps based on previous sales? Why not buy stock up to what was sold by Christmas of the previous season? Given the promotion it was always going to be a bonanza for club shop stuff.

Yeah quite possibly but I would imagine the first order would have had to have been placed well before we know we where getting promoted.

I’m with davmariner on this one, it’s just plain not good enough.

4 weeks until stock replenishment. I’d sack Macron off just based on this as soon as the deal elapses.

With 5000 ST holders, the next lot will go as well, the it’ll be September onwards for more, then the opportunity is lost. People want the shirts for summer.

I love these new owners, but this is a mis-step, and fans have been frustrated with this topic for years.

All part of the learning experience, but fans could have told them this would happen a year ago, if they’d asked.

We must be on the up if the only thing to moan about is a few week delay on the shirts. Christ.  As long as the boys have them to wear in front of a sold out BP at the start of the season who cares?

The mocking comments are because it's a bit of a pathetic reason to suggest the club have messed up because "people want them for summer". There will be more in 4 weeks time. It is not a big deal to wait that long.

Look, these new guys are great, but the old regime - who i despised - had the new shirts for sale the day before Father’s Day every year, which was actually quite a smart move. Pretty sure other football clubs have complained about a lack of stock due to Brexit and other issues; I imagine the club would have loved more shirts but perhaps there are external factors that prevent them from getting them at the moment?

I'm a massive fan of Debbie n 1878 etc, but i do think there's some validity to the complaints

Given the explosion of season ticket sales, it's a pretty safe bet that the demand for the new shirts, with the new sponsor, would be of the same magnitude. Therefore ,imho, they should've been up front from the start and said that there was limited stock (and explained why) and what the plan was for future supplies. the last thing we want to do is to dampen , or sully, this explosion of positivity and enthusiasm. when all is said and done the more tickets, the more merchandise we sell, the more money the club has to play with

I really don't like the green on the shirt but maybe that's the  Rangers and Hamburg in me showing through.
Saying that, I'm too old and podgy to wear a replica football shirt anyway, same as jogging bottoms and trainers.

“Up front from the start” ..... “sully the explosion of positivity”. I’m amazed and quite disappointed in someone as sensible as you could use such language in relation to people who really care and have done so much in so little time to move us forward.

Some of the narrative around this is as pathetic as the flag on the badge stupidity.

I was working onsite in Ireland last year who manufacture football jerseys, one being Leeds Utd.  The problems they had was demand v production including meeting all the other requests.  So had to do smaller batches to meet some of the demand.  Luckily our software helped with that by making them more efficient etc.

Cant wait for the next batch of stock to arrive hopefully just in time for payday.

Or May be demand out did supply? Was it planned? Did we take a cautious approach? There’s a whole raft of reasons that aren’t really anyones fault….we’ve shifted a boat load in 24 hours…things are changing and the club is different. Everything’s different. We were told it could never be done. We were bullshitted that it was impossible…well here we are…likes enjoy it and take the positives out of the fact there’s even a mad demand for essentially the same thing we’ve worn for nigh on 100 years…

As someone who has worked in retail, it’s notoriously difficult to get the numbers right when ordering the first run of a new product.  Too much and you are stuck with a load of cash tied up in stock.  Too little and you miss out on sales and disappoint customers.

It’s quite common to place an initial order to gauge demand and follow up with another a few weeks later.

This first batch was probably ordered before the play off final so it would have been hard to predict the context in which the shirts went on sale yesterday.

I bet we normally take several weeks to sell 1000 shirts.  We sold as many season tickets in 10 days as normally sold in all of preseason.

Instead of moaning that there isn’t enough supply, shouldn’t we be delighted that demand is so high?

The manufacturing demand for any reputable kit supplier this time of year is huge. If you want better than six weeks, we best return to Sunday League kits and print the sponsors logo on ourselves. Given Italy shuts down production in the summer, 4 weeks can't be sniffed at and I imagine this first batch was ordered around March time at the latest; before the magic of the play offs.

I'm cutting the board some slack for not having kits launched for Father's Day. Many teams have only just launched their kits in the last few days and Barnsley had to play their pre-season game last week in last seasons away kit. I don't know when the myEnergi deal was confirmed but having a new sponsor in place has probably pushed our order back a little bit.

For all we know, the club might have asked for 3000 and Macron, with lots of other clubs to cater for, may have turned around and said, you sold 500 on the first day last season so we are only prepared to give you 1000.

I guess it depends on how the production / manufacturing sites prioritise their work / contracts.  I think from a manufacturing point of view, companies prefer to have multiple contracts to fulfil probably promised in x amount of batches, i dont think its profitable to the companies if all their production lines are focused on GTFC for example, they like to have many contracts to fulfil.  It could be just a case of some clubs may pay more of premium to get more shirts produced than others.

The shirt is 90% a beauty, but that collar ruins it. The club have gone with a quirky collar quite often in the past too. I don’t know why they don’t ask the fans their opinion first. They did that once and it worked quite well.

Not sure of the overall structure but they definitely have a store in Manchester which is where we order our kits for in grassroots football. I would imagine that production is also there. I've previously dealt with Macca Sports who are based in Peterborough and have production locally. Their issues are the same as mentioned by another poster, the demand for kits from so many Clubs/Teams all at the same time (pre-season) is insane. Macron are considerably bigger and therefore may have more factories but the principle won't change. A possible solution for the future would be to have the new kit designed and in production by March, giving us a headstart on everyone else but it won't allow for any changes in demand, can't reflect season ticket sales etc, this would all be 'in the moment' and still leaves us in the production queue should we have sold out of the hypothetical March supply. Quoting someone else, it's a wonderful problem to have and if this is all we have to complain about then it's a great indication of where we are and a positive lesson to learn from.

I think to blame someone or point a finger is a tad harsh. Even with our up turn in fortunes, I’d imagine when they placed the order they never expected to have a thousand folk turn out to buy the new shirt on release day.

There’s been an issue with trying stuff on at the club shop for years and it’s my understanding that they’re looking to fit some changing rooms etc.

I wonder if, after all these years, we’re now preprogrammed to moan about stuff the club do?

Simple fact is they’ve been caught out to some extent, we all knew that there’d be interest in tickets and shirts but nobody saw this coming, it’s taken everyone by surprise and it’s left some people disgruntled. I’m sure the club would admit they’d liked to have had more etc but sometimes it’s not that simple. If you want to blame someone then crack on but it won’t change anything and still seems a tad unfair.

It’s interesting though because I’ve literally not heard or seen anyone else complaining…

Where do Hope and Glory manufacture their kits? They are supplying Cleethorpes and Broadley so Matt who runs Broadley FC might actually have some insight into their manufacturing. I suspect virtually every supplier has them made in the Far East or India, Bangladesh etc.

I think the Macron deal has another year to run too but I would like to think progressive owners across the pyramid will look to get next seasons kits signed off earlier and seek some guarantees regarding supply.

Shirts
Authentic (players) V Replica (fans) differ in quality of material and finish. So whilst the Hi Tech shirts can and are designed/manufactured in the UK, its the replica shirts that are the problem, UK doesn't have the sweat-shops that China has. But the price is not that expensive at the beginning of manufacture.

"Typically, around 5.8% (£3.48 of the cost of a £60 replica shirt is the cost of the fabric, sewing and shipping, according to Rohlmann. About 11.5% (£6.90) of the sale price is profit for the manufacturer while the club receives just 3.6% (£2.16) of the sale price as its licensing fee. Retailers take a considerable chunk of the pie, with 22% (£13.2) of the shirt price accounting for their profit. The rest of the price(£34.26)  is gobbled up by VAT, distribution and marketing costs."

If some enterprising clubs banded together and approached a UK design House/manufacturer then I bet all could be to everyone's satisfaction.
Income for the Clubs, great gear for the fans, employment for the UK.
It won't happen though.

Cleethorpes shirts are much better quality than Town's and 13 quid cheaper. The badges are top notch.  Town's looks cheap.

When you’re not making as many I guess you can take more time and care with the quality…

Any word on the third kit? Imagine we’ll need it at Rochdale in a couple of weeks given their home colours of blue and black stripes.

Look, these new guys are great, but the old regime - who i despised - had the new shirts for sale the day before Father’s Day every year, which was actually quite a smart move. I’ll not give that man another positive reference, but that was one that impressed me. Apart from STILL not ordering enough in!

Erm, hello, Covid

Don't think so, except that it has been designed by a Junior Trust member:

I've only just noticed that Robbie Stockdale is manager of Rochdale, appointed last year. Dale fans still think he has a lot to prove this season, after a steady 18th-placed finish last term.

So it’s this one then. Designed by 4 year old Fon Jenty of humberstone who wins 2 season tickets in the upper findus, as well as 2 flags for each home game and the chance to lead the team out against Northampton for our opening league 2 home fixture.
