Somewhere, in a parallel universe, Ryan Sears gets in a taxi early one October Sunday morning, and we don’t get promoted.

Funny how things play out.

Alex May joins the army at 16…..we’d probably be mid table  and celebrating opening the new ‘Holloway burger bar’ following a new Ex person £250 investment.

5th Feb - Ben fox got injured
Hurst reacted by signing 3 centre mids - 2 didn't work out, 1 scored a last minute goal against Notts County....
Ben fox also returns and turns into Iniesta.

12th March - Smith finally plays centre back with Waterfall after time at right back. He then starts 15 games, (W 10 x D 3 x L 2)

8th April - Hurst tells Amos 'Nice lads get eaten up'
He starts every game after that (9) barring 2, in which we only lost 1.

Or we romp to the title, despite losing Adam Crookes in March to an England call up.

And that wouldn't have been as good!

Not sure we will ever find out the behind the scenes stories of this season but Sears, Macca, Towler to name but three all seemed to just fall out of favour out of the blue after playing regular.
We obviously know why Sears did but so many rumours, theories and conjecture.
Then the injured or just not fancied Grant...Scannel also to a degree.
Really odd season with a whole load of names that won't live long in the memory...despite us being promoted in extraordinary fashion.

Lawrie Mac takes one look at Matt Tees and thinks, what am I going to do with that stream of pish, and he's sold to Scunthorpe...

I think LM more less admitted that's what he thought but thankfully didn't act and MT got a hat trick in the first game of the season (v Scunny), thousands became lifelong fans and their kids (like mine) because of that season...

let's hope the same holds true for this season and a whole new generation of youngsters become 'converts'

It’s been an odd season with some truly memorable moments and some absolutely forgettable.

We’ve seen wage stealers like Grant somehow still manage to get a few minutes, we saw Towler who was excellent jjst head to back to his parent club and go straight in to the championship. We’ve seen a player from last year who most would’ve moved on become arguably play of the season. Scannell, a player most would’ve moved on, get fit, play well, look to be the missing link and then a serious injury stops that. We see that the players clearly love the bloke.

We had our best start in donkeys years but those players clearly weren’t up to the long haul so were moved on, squad rebuilt and somehow improved, mid season.

Longest servant dropped because of performances but then clearly something happens and he’s never seen again. We had the Sears incident, we had a spell where we couldn’t buy a win and then we went in to the playoffs, probably, as fans anyway, being content with just qualifying for them after the atrocious season last year…

Three games later, all to extra time and town win. Away from home. Against arguably better opposition, nobody fancying us but being the better side and producing three of the greatest games in my life time.

It’s bonkers, Roy of the Rovers stuff but intercourse me it was amazing to see…those of us lucky enough to see it first hand will never forget, those mariners who had to watch on the TV the same. What a flipping time to be a town fan…

COVID never hits and Town have just been promoted to the Championship after an invincible season under tactical genius Ian Holloway, with a team made up entirely of players recruited from the Northern Premier League.

Owner Jon Fenty says “I told you we would be in the Championship in five years what do you the fans know?” He then goes ahead and sells the club for 2.5 billion pounds to previously unknown Russian businessman Mr Anatoly Putin who passes the EFL fit and proper ownership test in a record 24 hours. Chairman Phillip Day welcomes him to the club saying “he’s a decent chap, I have no interest in where his money has come from. I’ve never met his brother but I’m sure he’s a noble man and a good chap all round”.

The new owner promises we can be the new Bournemouth then promptly sacks much loved fan favourite Ian Holloway and replaces him with Sven Goran Ericksson. Meanwhile ex-owner Jon Fenty buys neighbors Scunthorpe United and promises to get them to the Championship in five years.

John McAtee goes off with an injured ankle and Kyle Hudlin doesn't get concussed.  Gulp

Will Puddy is shown the a red card early in the 2015 play-off final.  Against ten men for the majority of the game and already one nil up, Town cruise to the most comfortable of 3-0 wins.  Such is the ease of the win Ollie Palmer isn't required to come back to defend a corner and try a ridiculous flick that would otherwise have resulted in a leveller.

Town, with the additions of Amond, Bogle and Tait that summer embark on a second successive promotion season the following year.  The January signing of Jon Nolan, outcast from previous clubs, proves a masterstroke as he adds a level of creativity that was missing for the final months and lifts Town from the play-off positions to second.

Football is a funny old game.  So bloody many what if moments this season, even right down to the play-off games.  I've rarely seen Hurst allow a 'keeper go up for a corner.  If he doesn't let Crocombe go up, is there anyone else who kinda shuffles it off their inner thigh for Holohan to save us at the death?

In a different timeline, we’re still all arguing about a flag being added to a trawler in the wrong place.
