It's been a long time coming but great to see a Town player again that can actually throw the ball in like a corner, big bonus.

Gets the ball well clear of danger when we have a throw in deep in our own half as well.

The noise around the ground when he took his first throw was pretty funny. A sort of, 'Ooohaaurggh!' as it went further and further into the opposition box. A real asset to have something like that in your locker. He played pretty well against some tricky wingers as well so a very positive performance. Just needs to get some fitness from somewhere.

We'll have to learn to attack these long throws if he's playing as well. We didn't get anyone running through when the ball was bouncing around in the box on a couple of occasions.

I can’t actually remember a town player able to do that tbh

Zac Mills apperently had a long throw just never did it. Mitch Rose did well with his long thrown obviously not up to Cropper standard.

Last long throw merchant we had was Elliott Hewitt..wasn't as good as Croppers though, his were a thing of beauty today!..liked his balls down the line 2, has that little bit of back spin on them..

Just a shame that he could throw, but not actually fulfil any other aspect of being a footballer

Cropper’s long throw? Love it!! As DN35 pointed out on Twitter Wrexham paid £250k for that.

As well as the throw Cropper looks half decent based upon today.

If, with a fully fit squad Effete regains his place as 1st choice RB, what a great option we have with Cropper and Manni to bring off the bench.

Richard Smith actually had a long throw but I think I only ever saw it once. Guess it was a risk him taking long throws because he’d be out of position (and also he’d ideally be attacking them in the box!).

If we are going to use Cropper's long throw, then perhaps we should play Manny up front instead of Taylor, since he attacks crosses and gets on the end of things better than Taylor does.

If you want us to play as a long ball team, drop Taylor. He's the best forward at linking up play and leading the line that we've had for years which is why most teams put two men on him from goal kicks and throws.

Actually, if you want us to play long ball, you might was well put Taylor and Dieseruvwe up front together. McAtee's strength isn't in the air and teams which play for throws try to get the ball upfield quickly and press defenders into giving away throws. Can't say I'd like to see us play in this manner, however. And you're screwed if Cropper then gets injured.

I love Taylor and I think he is great at most things but he doesn’t get in the box enough. Maybe tough to criticise him for it because it’s obviously just not his game. I can see the argument for giving Mani a try though. Taylor drops in whereas Mani stretches things the opposite way. He looks to have a good touch and I think he could get on the end of stuff in the box more. I am thinking JMDs crosses for one.

I don’t think Hurst will go for it though and I wouldn’t blame him. Either way you’re gonna lose something. Doesn’t stop me wondering how it could work for a few games though!

I'd have thought you would want someone like McAtee to be picking up the scraps from any long ball approach?  Be it from the back or from a throw-in, I reckon a lot of the goals come from reacting quicker/better to the second ball than anything else.

Cropper's throw is an asset and I hope we use it.  But I'd hate to see us focus all of our play around it.  As you say, screwed at the point one player becomes unavailable.  But whilst we've got that option, we might as well use it.  From anywhere within 30-35 yards of their goal it's as good as a corner, if not better.

I’m a believer that tactics like long throws are best used sparingly. You don’t want it to become an obvious or predictable feature of your game.

Given the nature and timing of Cropper’s selection and signing it’s probably unlikely Dagenham knew he had a long throw in his locker. I’m sure it’s surfaced before during his time at Chesterfield, but there’s no way they could have prepared for it. And that’s the key, you don’t want teams spending good time working out how to defend it, as it then becomes less effective.

Everything in moderation.

Long throw ins are good to use when we’re deep in our own half under pressure as a way of alleviating said pressure. I think it would be a mistake to use it to often as an attacking threat.

His throw is good enough to be able to reach the other wing and stretch teams. Teams set up on the touchline for a throw, leaving the other side open. The opposition would have to leave players wide stretching them out and leaving space.

Keep playing how we're playing. Watching the highlights we look like we're playing some good football in patches.
When we're within a decent reach of their penalty area or defending ours use his long throws every time (on the right) and then sparadically on the left
