Phew! Completely bossed the first 65 with the excellent clifton and Bapaga linking up with Mcatee and Taylor superbly. First goal from Bapaga was individually excellent, Taylors due to great work from Mcatee and the third a lovely team goal finished by Clifton in front of the delirious mariners.

Then Bapagas red, to me he had the ball thrown at his face. Already on a soft yellow from an incompetent arrogant ref who has now done his best on 2 occasions to rob us of 3 points and he got worse as the half went on. I think we made a mistake taking Taylor off as we went deep, their first a good strike and the second i think a macca mistake not coming for the cross.

But we dug in,  and we fought, and we battled. And we didnt give them an inch. To a man the back 4 were excellent. LJL was poor when he came on but who cares we won. We are top of the league and we have a fantastic team spirit as shown by scenes at the end

When he booked Macca for time wasting a minute after their second goal went in you could see what his intentions were

That’s two big decisions he’s got wrong when refereeing us, thankfully it didn’t cost us three points tonight, doesn’t make it alright though.

Thankfully, winning is becoming a habit. Couple that with the obvious team spirit and desire to die for each other, and plenty of players stepping up. Sears coming in from the cold so to speak and slotting in, Waterfall being the changed man, Towler just being class and the likes of Hunt and Macatee just being decent.

I hear what you’re saying about Lenny, I’m not convinced he’s looked that good at all yet, that’s not saying he can’t be impactful and a key player. Perhaps he needs more game or a scrappy goal to get him settled.

I never normally look at the time until about November but after the excrement of previous years I have looked and it doesn’t half look decent doesn’t it?

A game we'd have almost certainly lost during our last stint in this division.  A pivotal moment went against us, the crowd got back into it and an effective Alty side threw everything at us at the death.  The difference is we'd been clinical and professional enough beforehand to have already won the game.  Those small margins that have been gained over the last few months are adding up.

Thought we were superb tonight, ref had been waiting all night to get noticed . Beat 12 men in the 2nd half and if McAtee had stuck his two 1 on 1s away we could have relaxed for the last 20 mins. Thought the first 20 mins of 2nd half is some of the best I have seen under Hurst. Every player pretty much immense considering the ref shambolic display. Funny how during the game and when your winning you don't notice how wet you are till you walk back to the car.(boat)
Well done to the idiots with the pyros and throwing stuff at the goalie(wallbash2)

The harshest part of Bapagas red is the fact the first yellow was never a yellow. The ref was absolutely minging for both sides tonight and at some point it’s going to really cost us, how in gods name can these refs get it wrong so regularly?

When it went to 3-2 I’d have been almost happy with a point I was that convinced it was going to be 4-3. However for 60 mins we were absolutely dominant, a joy to watch at times and our 3rd goal was a thing of pure beauty.

For the first time tonight at 3-0 I thought we looked like a side capable of winning the league, we were absolutely superb. Bapaga, McAtee and Taylor were great. The midfield 3 are the best I’ve seen at Town in years, not as individuals but as a collective, I can’t remember having such a strong midfield.

Each player played their role and should be proud despite one man doing his level best to ruin it.

Great to survive a soaking, terrible ref and the worst ever meat pie at The King George pub.  Found myself standing next to a fan from Liverpool who also had the seat next to me at the Stockport game. What amazing support. Surely, only Notts County can get anywhere near this level of exile following.

Shows great character to hang on with 10 men in such a situation. They could easily have lost their heads given the ridiculous refereeing decision.

Add that strength of character to the sublime football in the first 60 minutes and you have a team that is going to be really tough to finish ahead of this season. On our day (and with a fair ref) we can beat any team in this division.  23 points from 10 games is not only play off form, it's the form of Champions.

And then people will say our fans get treated badly and that the heavy police presence is unnecessary.  ;D

Just stop doing things like this please, this isn't Romania where you can get away with it.

To be fair to the Romanians, they're probably still just so pleased they're not under Ceaușescu

I think it’s a bit harsh criticising Lenny tonight, he was only on the pitch for 9 minutes. One thing I can’t argue with though is that third goal which was ridiculously good.

Fck me that was roller coaster of emotions, a bright start then some self inflicted nervy moments , a goal slightly against the run of play, dominant midfield  and neat attacking play all before half time.
Second half looked like we could score with every attack, ripped them apart, they couldn't compete with our midfield and they couldnt contain our attack.....that 3rd goal...a thing of absolute quality and beauty....one of the best GTFC team goals I have witnessed.
At that point it looked like being a cricket score......then the red card.....absolutely baffled.....I actually cheered when the ref flashed the red as I thought he was sending their player off for throwing the ball at Bapaga......
We sat too deep, invited them in and inevitably conceded, despite creating a couple of more excellent chances on the break we were looking desperate as the 2nd was conceded.

We held on thankfully and somehow only 4 mins added time ?? Thank fook.

With 11 on the pitch we looked dominant and a cut above them in every department,  tore them open with ease, and these.... the best defence in the league.

Still shell shocked nearly 3 hrs later.

Great night, great turn out but unfortunately I think something from the f.a will be heading  our way after several items pelted at their keeper that were noted by the ref.
The last thing we need is sanctions so ffs people, cut that sh1t out.

We were outstanding up to the sending off. That ref was a twit most of the game. I also agree about taking Taylor off, I am a big fan of Sousa but he isn't up to much defensively and we then stopped holding the ball up front. No idea why LJL was brought on.

Jeez that was one of the most stressful games I've ever seen I think. We were cruising at 3 - 0, I thought this could go to 5 or 6 here. Then that cockstick of a ref intervenes and very very nearly costs us the match.
Thank goodness we could hold on or it would have been an absolute travesty.
Even when  down to 10 we tore them open on two occasions and McAtee has to score at least 1 of those and put the game to bed, but it didn't matter in the end.
Thought the subs were v odd, would have left taylor on who was having a great game and can hold it up,brought on lenny for the same and taken off mcatee who looked like he wouldn't score. Doesn't matter though as Hurst got it right as in we won.

The team going forward really do look a cut above this league and when we have 11 we look strong defensively too. Got 5p make this half of the season with hunt and towler count in terms of getting wins and building up a lead at the top.

Amazing support yet again at over 1200 on a Tuesday night.

Brilliant first hour, particularly in the opening 15 of the second half when we looked like carving them open at will and scored that beautiful third goal, and then great character to hold on with ten men after yet another terrible refereeing display.

They scored their goals at great times so we could have easily imploded but we didn't, and we probably had better chances than them really.

Onwards and upwards. UTM.

Hope we can keep Hunt for the full season. Wednesday are struggling and especially so some underperforming midfielders i've read.

Having seen the sending off I fail to see what he could have done. Their player picked the ball up as fast as he could and threw it directly at him. If anything their player should have been booked. Even more pathetic than it sounded on commentary, there was literally no chance to retreat.

When PH brought Pearson on the other week, he got slated .    Many people thought LJL would be better holding the ball up top then letting the opposition run at us.  May be that was his thinking.

Love it when folk moan about the odd smoke bomb…

Doesn’t matter how many times you look at the sending off, it’s still harsh.

The key thing, as has been said is the desire and determination to win the game. We’d have probably managed a point last time we were down here, a defeat in the recent years.

We’re playing some excellent football and for a side that is apparently desperate for a striker, we’re not doing too bad.

We all know it’ll be difficult to sustain this for another 30 games but it does send a marker down. None of us saw this start coming and I’d imagine the likes of Stockport and Wrexham certainly didn’t, not with the cash and arrogance they’ve got.

We’ll just keep plugging away and you can’t see us getting any worse, even when we inevitably have a bad spell.

It's not just that though is it. Running on the pitch, trying to damage the property of other clubs, throwing things at their goalkeeper have all happened on several occasions. Then people act like we are hard done by when our fans get banned or the club is fined, say we get picked on and so on. I'd rather see our fans not be escorted to and from the ground by police or the club fined for failing to control fans personally.

If people can't moan about the stupidity of a few people then people shouldn't moan about the consequences either.

The wind took the smoke into our fans further back. An easterly breeze would have enveloped the goalmouth, causing a stoppage. Selfish and thoughtless.  Good of their goalie to applaud our following at the end, despite the abuse he took.

Enjoyed the game last night, you played some outstanding football. Could have had 5/6 if McAtee had taken his chances.

Referee had an absolute nightmare last night, how on earth that was a sending off; I do not know. Bewildered to say the least.

Superb away following form you l guys, outstanding for a Tuesday night match. I got absolutely soaked in that open end for the privilege.

I’ll be back again soon with the little en for a home game.

Keep up this form and you’ll be right up there come May.

I seem to remember us being near the top of the table for having fans banned. I could be wrong though.

I assume that's what he meant, we have had scores of fans banned. In fact if I remember correctly one was fined and banned for 3 years after being caught on camera holding up a smoke bomb at Altrincham.

Pre season game against Sheff Utd (Weds?) a season or two ago - more than one Town fan got banned for their involvement. Sorry, my memory is a bit hazy about the details.

100% agree.. Torquay was a great day, fantastic support, fantastic game etc but I couldn't help feel annoyed at whoever it was stood on the wall shaking the goal Stantion.. Seriously. You're grown men. Scream, shout, bounce around, but have some respect.
Anyway, absolutely buzzing for the start we've had. All town aren't we.
