Well well well, the EU’s former Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier demands French ‘sovereignty’ from the European courts, how ironic.

You have to wonder if this is the start of the break up of the EU, sacre bleu they'll want their franc back too. ;)

I suspect the teal picture is a lot more nuanced than the headline. Look at a couple of the comments about what Barnier is saying. Of course there’s a vote grabbing element to it.

He's aiming to be the right-wing candidate. Macron not at all popular, so a reasonable centre-right alternative to the fascists has a very good chance of winning power with the way in which their elections are run. As such, he's making the right noises to get the moderate(ish) votes which would be likely to head towards Le Pen Jr. Whether or not he actually believes it remains to be seen.

A bit like how, in the US, the candidates on either side of the political divide make ridiculously inflammatory statements during the primaries to make sure they are noticed, then move to more centrist policies once they've won their party nomination. At least that was the case before Trump who said all sorts of outlandish excrement and then followed through. Metaphorically so, in fact.
