They were definitely penalties. But Taylor’s goal 👀

Still buzzing. A fantastic afternoon.

Highlights on the GTFC YouTube channel so far this season have been cracking. I assume they are the work of the club?

Whole channel in general just looks class. Well done to those behind it. I don’t go on other clubs channels but I can’t imagine them being as professional this far down the leagues.

Great Highlights with a "proper" commentator!

We played really well to be honest.

Listen to that unashamedly bias commentary all day long

Do we have to listen to this biased commentary!

Oh yes we do!

I thought it on Saturday but McAtee looks class on those highlights.

In particular, the clip straight after the penalty he's given an awful pass in the LB position but deals with it and plays the ball short. Next thing you know he's on the right wing for the 1-2 with Sousa.

Their red was harsh. It was point blank range but their players all seem to jump with their arms out. I thought Widdowson was lucky to stay on in the 4th minute and that maybe influenced the later sending off.

The old boy from Barnet sprinting onto the pitch at full time though...

So good to see wingers running at defenders at pace and good crosses raining in.

Could have been 6 with luck and slightly better finishing.

Clifton's long range shot would have been a goal of the month contender.

I can see our penalty count rising if we are attacking at speed down both flanks. I saw at one stage that Souza had 3 defenders moving to close him down, which give space to others.

Positive start, and if Paul Hurst is laughing during interviews.......??

There is certainly a buzz around the town, so let's hope results keep generating more footfall to the ground.

Excellent highlight Show.

The great, the good and the ugly.  The latter being their 3 goals.

Love the completely “unbiased” commentary for their 3rd goal “What were we doing?”.  Such passion and annoyance expressed.  Exactly how the fans saw it.

McAtee and Taylor were embracing at the end.  Good that they work together well because this partnership looks likely to continue if the Shop is out injured for some time.

Goal of the season over by the first weekend of September you mean...

What an attractive piece of footy from mariners. Defending needs to tighten up and am sure that won’t be lost on PH.  Thought macca didn’t deserve so much criticism but did seem flat footed for the third goal. The first two Barnet goals were more down to defenders not defending

Keep up the entertaining and winning form

I hadn’t fully appreciated how far out he was when he hit that - it must have been getting on for 40 yards. Incredible effort, unlucky not to go in.

I can think of at least two more chances their keeper saved that weren't on the highlights reel. One was a brilliant defence splitting pass to Mcatee that he should really have buried. He could have had 5 or 6 goals already.

Some of our football was very good and I think that reel showed Kewell must have been watching another game. We battered them, especially second half.

It also shows that Hurst teams can play good football when the opposition allow it. A lot of games in this league will be more attritional and not as entertaining, but if the opposition want to open up, we have the players to exploit it. Barnet played some really good stuff too in that first half.

It's obvious we need to sharpen up in a couple of areas, but it's promising so far.

We really were knocking it around nicely in the first half. Second half with Hunt dictating much of the play was also very good. If we can keep that up but manage to tighten up the defence then we're on to something.

Great football, great finishing, great team spirit.

Also, red socks. I love the red socks.

Some very good stuff in there, especially the third and fourth goals. If PH and Doig can work on Erico's final product we have a real player on our hands by the look of it.
Thought the red card was a tad harsh to be honest but there's something deeply joyous watching the opposition manager get a red card!!

I'd actually prefer these highlights without any commentary.

Much prefer hearing the roar of the crowd when we score.

For once Swin I am in total agreement with you and as I said on Saturday in the just back comments it’s the first time I can recall a second half where it was basically wave after wave of town attacking play and looking dangerous for much of that time.

A thoroughly enjoyable game in which Barnet also played some good football in the latter part of the first half and showed they had some more than decent forwards.

One thing that I haven't seen mentioned much was the quality of the delivery from Crookes to put it on a plate for McAtee's miss in the first half, super pass across the box

Does anyone know if there is some contractual reason why the YouTube channel can't put the full match online as well as the highlights?  Some of us who can't get to games ( because, for example, like me we live in different countries ) might enjoy watching the whole thing. It's difficult to get a real feel for the team and its individual players and their strengths and weaknesses from a few minutes of edited highlights, welcome as those are. After getting used to watching games live for the last few years, I'm still getting used to just commentary and brief highlights two days later.

It's the newly excited John Tondeur at fault !!

Finally got something good to shout at without Alan Buckley lacing into the players !

I love the commentary. It's biased commentary, of course, insomuch that they want Grimsby to win, but John always calls things as he sees it, and if the opposition score a great goal or deserve to win, he'll say so.

For me, it strikes the right balance. Sees it how we see it, occasionally lets out the odd comical frustration ("no marking!') but adds something to the occasion.

And I disagree that he talked over the roar. When Hunt scored the winner there was a good 7-8 seconds of silence behind the mic when you could hear the whole ground celebrating.

The club always used to put out 10+ mins of match highlights each game when we were last in non-league. I really disliked the EFL edits for iFollow, with commentary added on afterwards.

Was speaking to a german friend whos a st pauli fan whos started following grimsby coz of how much i rattle on and she thinks its great that our highlights come with our own commentator, and was amazed at how long hes been around, ive always took it for granted really but guess it could be quite unique do many other clubs have the same?

Yeah, I too used to find that quite jarring. The commentary would be added on as if it were ‘live’, but there’d be little giveaways that it wasn’t.

Ah well, I suppose that’s another little benefit add I can thank Uncle John for!

Ha Ha,  ;D  "unbiased commentary" Just gets a bit getting used to.
My initial input about Macca was that his reflex saves are great, but he doesn't command his box, and after watching vid highlights I'm sticking to it.
Barnet's first two goals were because the backs didn't shield the goal, not much the goalie can do from that distance, but the third is everyone's fault. Goalie and backs. The goal was so simple, it wasn't true.
Everyone is raving about McAtee (and to be fair, he's is usually at the finish), but it's Sousa that makes it happen. When was the last time the Mariners had a player who could beat the opposition backs and fire into the penalty area? Errrr it was errrrr................????
The Mariners do, as a team, look good in most areas. I haven't been this positive for a lot of seasons.

I doubt there will be anything in the forseeable future, but they talked about this on the DN35 podcast with AP and JS. They mentioned the ability to limit streaming to those areas where people are not likely to go to the match. AP also said he was offering to help the NL review their broadcast contract to see if there was anything that could be done.

That third goal looks even worse on the highlights than it did on the day, he just casually walked through out defence and stood on the goal line to knock it in. Commentary right "what were we doing!?", nothing. That's the problem.

And that free kick and the player reactions celebrations deseves its own highlight.

Yep, absolutely brilliant that as always. Having seen things from a closer angle I'm still of the opinion that Taylor's headed equaliser was absolutely class and that red card was harsh - the ball appears to strike their defender somewhere around his armpit as he attempts to prevent himself from getting a broken face.

Ah well, never mind eh...
Posted by: Yossarian, September 6, 2021, 11:06pm; Reply: 37
Poojah - agree with you that their red card did look a bit harsh - he was about 1 yard away.   Class cross and class finish for the header as well.

Excellent highlights - just watched them.  The infuriating thing about this though - all the things the new guys are doing right (well informed youtube clips, good highlights, treating fans with respect, sensible ticket offers) isn't rocket science.

We should have had this years ago!

Anyway - not enjoyed Town this much in years.

From that angle it looks less harsh to me than from the original highlights. The guy throws his arms up in an ‘unnatural’ way on both sides but not in front of his face.
Posted by: EvilFish, September 6, 2021, 11:24pm; Reply: 39
I thought it was very harsh at the time, but looking at the highlights he doesn't just go to block his face, he waves both arms in an arc in front of him.

Both handballs look deliberate to me, but done in a manner to try to look like they aren't.

Great perfoemance.  Sousa is certainly not afraid of taking people on.  Taylor looks to be enjoying his football.  Gets into some good positions. I think his goal was overshadowed by Hunt's but that diving header was class.  He had a lot of ground to make up to get to it.  So much so that the keeper didn't think it was a threat and stood there. Hunt's first ever pro goal was very special.  Our Harry's shot was a cracker from range.  Boy if that had crept in (keeper was beaten).  Would have been the goal of the season.

You can't get away with doing star jumps whenever you try to block a ball. Widdowson was fortunate that he was a few yards further back in the 4th minute.

If you go to block with your arms out like that 6 yards from goal, your intentions to deny a clear goalscoring opportunity can't be doubted.

You can't star jump and expect to get away with it, the second was basically a keepers save to block a shot which is as deliberate as it gets so was definitely a sending off. Can see how Barnet might feel hard done by but there are things you just can't do and get away with, I'd have more sympathy if the ball was kicked directly in his face while on his feet and not diving to block the shot with his hands.

….plus I doubt the Barnet fans could see that well down at the Osmond through the players
