Not wasting any time - 8 new players signed in July already. All seem to be on 2 year contracts - apart from Jamie Matt (1 year) Just an observation & not suggesting we should be doing likewise when the future is so uncertain.

Maybe the threat of a salary cap has something to do with it and they're getting in first !!!

Fair play to Vince for continuing to put his money where his mouth is. Nobody on here would be complaining if it was us he threw his money at.

To me, it also shows why a salary cap won't work. He will still put in his money, they will be paying championship wages on gates of 2,000, while the rest of us will be forced to pay less on gates of three times theirs. Let the market decide. The issue is how to stop teams like Bury and Wigan from suffering at the hands of wreckless owners. A salary cap isn't the answer.

I thought I read somewhere that the transfer market wouldn't be open until July 27th!  Am I missing something, apart from the fact I am a doddering old bugga who sometimes doesn't know what day it is!

basing it on attendances like IH mentioned may work.

The transfer window is for all transfers, including those that involve buying players who are under contract somewhere.  If a player is out of contract, they can do what they want now.

Would it though?  You can have a good season, spend accordingly,  then have a bad season, attendances drop but you are still paying for the good season.

As I say, setting limits isn't the answer to wreckless owners, teams can find ways round them, ask Man. City.

The FA need to concentrate on club ownership and who actually owns the club and what they are doing. Perhaps more stringent auditing of accounts might be a start.

Thats a good point i didnt think about the seasonal trend of reduced attendances due to poor season.  Sometimes i think the EFL just want to know how much they have i dont think there dilligence team is any good, especially if a Wigan fan can find alot of dodgy info on their owners regarding the betting scandal that Rick Parry mentioned.

FGR definitely not sustainable, but also definitely not spunking as much money up the wall as some in here are making out. They've tightened their purse strings since going up to L2 and  I reckon they're not right up at the top in terms of teams chucking money at it.

They released George Williams ex fulham youngster who was pretty good for them so was surprised at this, i'd snap him up, he s bit better than Benson.
