Another thread to help while away these non-footy times.
So first conundrum Dave Beasant or Dean Henderson for goalie?
I'll leave the rest up to you.
Go!

David Neilsen up front potentially.
And of course, Tommy Forecast in goal...

Hard to argue with that team. Would hold it's own in the top half of the Championship.

Best GTFC loan?
John Fenty's benign loan of course! Where would we be without it?

Sorry but it has to be Dean Henderson in goal, the kid will make at least 50 appearances for England. Beasant made 2

Martin Pringle should be a contender

Did we have Garry Birtles on a loanee basis?

Disagree, Henderson was a great loan, no doubt, BUT the difference Beasant made was amazing.
From Macca to Henderson compared from Wilmot to Beasant..... wow.
Beasant was outstanding for us, a great leader, a massive positive influence.
And by your own measure, well so far Beasant has more England caps, so there ;-)
Last time I saw Henderson for the under 21s, last summer on tv vs Romania, he had the worst game of his career that i'm aware of!

Beasant was top notch where Henderson showed he was destined for greater things but was not there when with us.
Looking at the list we have had some great players on loan over the years.

How on earth Challinor only got a yellow for that tackle that ended his career. At least Carlton Palmer fined him 2 weeks wages.

Birtles was never on loan. He was a permanent signing.

Agree completely, we were a better team from the moment Beasant's 1st game kicked off. He ordered the defence about and had them sorted by half time. He had a profound affect on that team. And was as solid as a rock - he gave everyone confidence.

That’s a pretty impressive Team :), as another post mentions, David Neilsen would be a good shout too

Remember Richard Hughes playing midfield and believe he was on loan from Portsmouth? Thought he was a very good player, he certainly was when he went back anyway 😄

When Birtles signed my jaw nearly hit the ground. The next that happened was probably Ollie!
As for the greatest loan player we’ve ever had - Andy Todd. Colossal.

Beasant, Todd , Pond, Pringle, Nielson and then i would sneakily include Oster ...as when he came back on loan he didn't then become permanent so i havn't broken the rules there. ;)

Can’t disagree with Les’ selection.
On the Beasant-Henderson question: Beasant appeared for us two divisions higher and the first game he played we beat the runaway leaders who hadn’t dropped a point. At their place.

.
Les hasn't made a selection, I did
Also on this thread, Hughes and oster have been mentioned as if new but I chose them both in my team
I forgot Nielsen. How about Gary Crosby as possible sub? Sadly pringles injury meant he didn't play enough to get in my team.

Richard Hughes is a great shout. Went on to win the FA Cup with Pompey didn't he?

Ha, that reminds me I forgot Hughes, Oster, and Gary Crosby.
And what about Beasant or Henderson ;-)!!!!
Wayne Henderson as our 3rd goalie?

Did you see him play for us? He was fantastic. Gets the no1 shirt by a mile

Sorry Mersey. I’d stick with your original selection.
Technically I’m right though. Can’t disagree with Les’ selection because he didn’t make one. 😄

Honourable mention to Luke Cornwall.

I just planted the initial seed of Beasant or Henderson (Dean) in goal and left the rest to be debated. ;)

Yeah, in his 6 weeks with us he started twice as many league games as he did in the rest of his career. 4 goals for us though, and seeing as 3 were vital I thought he was worthy of a mention :)

think Beasant was unlucky to be behind Shilton. but Hendo has a chance, given we are not that strong keeper wise
