Taken from the Swindon forum....

"Loads of confidence on the Grimsby forum.

Only 14 predicting a Swindon win even though we are top of the table and without a home defeat since September on a run of 8 wins and 2 draws scoring 20 goals and conceding just 5 in the games.

16 Grims predict a draw, but a large 23 predict a Grimsby win.

Theres optimism for you."

You've got to optimistic at the moment though don't you we're plaing well and scoring goals again. Even if we do lose, you feel like theres going to be loads of goals in the game with only one separating the two sides. Its a good time to be a Town fan again isn't it.

Equality for away fans - just had tops taken off our coke bottles, took our seat only to see home fans with tops still on their bottles. I am sure last year they let you keep your tops.
Anyway as KK said "I'd love it if we beat them"

Wonder if the Major Shareholder or the Stadium Manager have written to other club’s warning them of or fans’ reputation for burping. As a precaution Swindon have removed the lids to make sure our pop goes flat.

Ollie wasn't happy with the reserves performance on Tuesday so no one gave him a decision to make.

Simples, just use the tampon you have sneaked in disguised as a flare to seal the bottle. Stewards wont have thought of that.

At least it's a newer whine than having to get your mammaries out at Stevenage

Still, not long till kick off and we'll be able to wheel out the weekly moan about the referee

If  Town go in all level then we should be able to use the wind to our advantage. Have a few long shots at goal.  Swindon always seem to go back to their keeper when under a little pressure. Sure;y, they are gonna make a mistake.  Some soft free kicks been given.

I hope we manage the wind better than Swindon in the second half,  Very good first half by the lads. UTMM!
Posted by: sonofmadeleymariner, February 22, 2020, 3:55pm; Reply: 36
I'll take that at half time away from home against top of the league. Less shots but only 3 of theirs were of any real merrit the rest just ballooned away.

Town have played well but we need to move the ball quicker Swindon are really on us today. We need to pepper their goal in this half like we did against Moreombe. Let the wind do the work for us.

Only real disappointment out of towns performance is Benson struggling with the wind today and the fact we didn't really press them and force them to hoof the ball with that wind because they're going to do it to us this half I bet.

Refs had a good first half. But neither sides really given him much to think about.
Posted by: cardiffmariner, February 22, 2020, 3:55pm; Reply: 37
They will think they should have scored, and they probably should have. We played well and had a couple of half chances, they look dangerous when they get the chance to run at our back four. As said, wind is making it difficult for both sides. Will be surprised if it ends goalless.
Posted by: Madeleymariner, February 22, 2020, 3:57pm; Reply: 38
Held our own will the wind  help or hinder us this half only time will tell. At least if its backs to wall when we go a goal up we can easily whack it up to the other end. :P

My apologies once again, I didn't realise we were supposed to be happy about losing games

Were happy because after a lot of sh*t years following the Mariners we finally look like a club heading in the right direction.

A mad 14 minutes away at the league leaders and you sound like your close to starting the 'Holloway out' brigade.

12 minutes of awful defending cost us. Ah well.

First defeat in 6. Only the third defeat in 13. Hopefully get back to winning ways on Tuesday.

I’m not arsed about Holloway either way. It’ll be what it’ll be but whilst there have been smatterings of improvements...how many times have we heard the phrase ‘a club going in the right direction’...

As happens many times, some Players mouth off in the Telegraph about what they gonna do, and it all backfires. Ollie is everywhere around the Town making a name for himself. Maybe its time he went into obscurity and got on with the training. Its not all about you Ollie, its about our Club, stop making a name for yourself and sort it out. Fed up of all the silly quotes etc, stick with the training, don't speak to the Press, stop your money making journals and get on with what your paid for. Too many of you lot on here are drawn into what he is doing, no man is bigger than the Club, read it and believe it.

Well following that 2nd half I think we misjudged Towns preformance in the 1st and Swindon were making us look better then we were.

We didn't deal with the wind even half as well as they did.
We didn't make use of the ball being held up by the wind like they did.
We certainly did't take our chances like they did.

Today I think we were tactically out done. We didn't press them and force them to hoof the ball like Swindon tried with us. Our midfield went missing today can't say any of them played well in the end. Strikers fed on scraps in the end. Defence had a disasterous 10 minutes which gifted the result to them.

Our subs had no impact at all even though the change of shape did seem to help. We need to move on quickly and got to remember we were talking relegation worries a couple months ago and just played top of the league away from home.

Not at all However I think I have already posted in another thread somewhere that the only thing I am interested in is results. Nothing else matters, I don't care if they are all 1-0 hoofball type wins so long as we win.

Whilst I welcome the 'mad as a box of frogs' PR boost he has given to the club, buying replica shirts for kids, delivering humourous radio interviews, investing in the club and believing he can in some way affect the dream of a new ground are all secondary for me. Promotion from this league and hopefully the next through results on the pitch will be how he is judged as far as I am concerned.

I will support him until he is sacked after a long winless run or until the blokes in white coats take him away (whichever happens first)

You're absolutely right...how dare he try and drum up some extra support for the club and try and engage the next generations of Town fans...

The absolute cheek of the man!

I'm as disgusted as you are!!

We can only but pray for a return of the days when the club didn't try and form a real connection with the fans!

2 goals down to midfielders not tracking their player allowing them to just run past (Grandin/Whitehouse) allowing them to get the throughball near the byline. Subs had no affect and I still dont know what Green brings to the team other than running around alot (may have been enough under Jolly but not good enough if we are going to improve) Dont think we had a shot on target 2nd half. Still we didn't look too much out of our depth but still a long way to go if we are going to challenge next season. :o.

Through the ramblings I am inclined to agree with your sentiment but aren’t the fans arguably an issue here. Singing his name like he’s some saviour? Suddenly wanting a flat cap...

Holloway himself has clearly acknowledged that perhaps it needs reigning in a bit and I expect it will.

Even if we were excrement for only 14 minutes today, we were dismantled and the first half at Bradford is something we’ve seen too many times.

No doubt that will be worked on...I know folk want realism but I’ll be copulated if I’m gonna be happy losing 3-1 whoever were playing...understandable that fans aren’t happy. Will it get an over reaction? Naturally? Will folk clamour to shout ‘be realistic’ and tell us it’s a work in progress blah blah...

Perhaps people need to just acknowledge it’s football and emotion is a vital ingredient...just because folk don’t agree doesn’t mean they’re wrong necessarily...

A tiny bit of perspective wouldn't go amiss. I rather suspect he does the interviews and PR stuff outside of training hours. I have never seen a manager work so hard and we have lost to the league leaders, who will probably go up as champions, and he is trying to turn round years of neglect.

Do you think winning a few matches would mean a lot to 6-11 year olds who have never been to Blundell Park?! Kids who would only normally watch their Premier league teams on match of the day... Or would they need something to spark their interest... Like the charismatic manager going into their school etc etc?!?

Defeat away at Swindon isn’t exactly the end of the world, is it? Pollock gives away a silly free kick for the first, Macca should have done better with the second and the thirds an own goal. They drunk all over us at BP.

Dear Mariners,
That was a good game in my opinion considering the conditions. You look much improved since our last meeting in December and remind me of what Wellens had with us last season - I am certain you will be challenging next season.

A mad 10 minute spell in the second half killed off the game, but apart from that spell you more than matched us and looked a real threat - Hanson was as always a handful and deserved his goal.

I must add, your fans were a credit to your club and could be heard even right at the end.

I wish you the very best for the rest of the season, and your fans have been a breath of fresh air with your gracious comments after the game. Hope to see you challenging next season, and
beating Scunny on their own patch this season.

Plymouth fans had 2,300 at ours, while Exeter had around 2,000 for our top of the league clash. FGR and Orient we haven’t played at home yet but Walsall didn’t take very many (around 300 I believe) and Northampton didn’t either as it was a Tuesday night.

I believe you brought the third biggest away following we’ve had this season - possibly Newport had more but we never announced their away following.

Some people expect miracles. We get a few points on the bounce and all of a sudden some are talking about the play-offs.

Let's be realistic. Ian Holloway has picked us up from where we were. When he arrived we could not even score a goal, let alone win a point. We are now fairly comfortable in the lower mid region of the table. If we make the games in hand count we might finish slap bang in the middle of the table. I am very happy with that. At one time I was getting worried about relegation. No one wants the Conference again. Once down there it is so hard to get out..look at Chesterfield.

A 3-1 reverse away at the top of the table team is not a disgrace. We never do well at Swindon. I once saw them capitulate in the very first minute during Buckley's days.

Let's get this season over and done, giving IH the summer to plan for next year and be positive.I think he knows what he is doing and must have loads of contacts around the lower leagues.

He has been a breath of fresh air and we will not get a more experienced manager to come to Grimsby. We should remember that we are lucky he decided to take the job on.
