During the Oxford v  Bradford game yesterday the Oxford keeper took a goal kick,

The ball did not go out the penalty area before a Oxford player took the ball and played it upfield,

It led to the only goal of the game,

The ref gives the goal.

Then he goes over to the linesman on the side nearest to the incident

After a chat he disallows the goal and says the goal kick should be taken again,

Then before that happens the players presuade him to talk to the other linesman ( the one who was further away )

After another brief chat he says no goal kick the goal stands,

What a farce !!!!!     ;D ;D

I usually say about EFL refs “they know the rules but know nothing about the game” I should say “they’re now not sure about either”............... they always have the get out of jail free card if “I give what I see”.

Blind bar stewards!!!

Apparently, as of next season, they are getting rid of the rule which states the ball has to leave the 18 yard box before someone touches it following a goal kick.

Sounds like the game Pete mentioned must have been a trial run then?  ;)

In this month's When Saturday Comes there was a really interesting article by a Dutch journalist about a trial they have done in The Netherlands regarding rule changes e.g self pass free-kicks (like in hockey), kick ins instead of throw ins etc.

Just to add to the utter confusion, Sky Sports showed this clip on their Facebook account and claimed that play was brought back after the goal for a PENALTY that should have been given the other end. Their timeline reads...

90+3 Penalty appeal dismissed
90+4 Opposition break and score winner
90+4 Referee rules out goal and awards penalty
90+5 Referee reverses and awards the winner

Looks more likely to me to be for a goal kick incident but who knows(blink(1))

Just another reason for the big wigs to champion VAR as the saviour of the game rather than deal with the incompetency of its own officials.
