Pompey have signed striker Omar Bogle on loan from Cardiff for the remainder of the season.
The 25-year-old – who spent the first half of the campaign at Birmingham – will wear the number 22 shirt during his time at Fratton Park.
Blues boss Kenny Jackett said: “We’re very pleased to have Omar and he’s someone that we’ve followed from his early days at Grimsby.
“He’s got pace, he’s got power and a strong left-foot to score goals, so I’m looking forward to working with him.
“It strengthens an area of the pitch where we were lacking in options and he makes a good addition to our front line.”
Bogle began his career in the non-league game with Hinckley and Solihull before signing for Grimsby and netting 38 goals in 78 games.
The former England ‘C’ international then had a short stint with Wigan before Cardiff brought him to Wales in the summer of 2017.
Bogle is the third arrival at Pompey during the January transfer window, following the permanent captures of Andy Cannon and Bryn Morris.

Wish him well. He needs to find a home where he is trusted and the goals will flow.

Really hope that this move works out for him. Five clubs since he left Town and only 9 goals. Played for some decent Manager's as well (apart from Posh). Fast becoming a 'nearly man' though.

Always thought he left here a bit too early. Hope it gets back on track for him.

Have to agree with this...He was brilliant for us in non league and the step up to championship seemed a bit too much for him, but that said, if he can find his shooting boots in league 1 and get his confidence back, then maybe he may do a job up there for Pompey, should the get decide to buy him and that they get promoted too

Stunted his own growth by leaving at the first chance - which is understandable given the money on offer. Bad move going to a Wigan team that were in the relegation zone and who were always likely to sack their manager imminently. Good luck to him.

I feel like he needs to go to a club where he'll be guaranteed a run of games.

I think he's a player that thrives when he's told he's their number one striker and will be the first name on the team sheet.

He may have been promised that at Wigan but what can you do when the manager who signed you gets sacked soon after.

He was never going to become a first teamer at Cardiff - too big a leap too soon.

Pompey may play him regularly - who knows? But I have a funny feeling that he'll make little impression there and be looking for a new club in the summer.

Hope I'm wrong. He's a good lad by all accounts and deserves a run somewhere. Certainly got a lot of talent.

I just figure that a team like Walsall, or even (dare I say it) Scunny would be a good move for him at this stage in his career. But if he's getting big bucks at Cardiff and has the chance to earn a decent salary at somewhere like Pompey in what might be the Championship next season then good luck to the fella.

How much of that was Omar himself, his agent, Wigan wanting a "goal machine" to fend off relegation and us wanting to bank the money.. the deal literally went through at the very last minute too so might not have happened when it actually did

In hindsight it might have been better all round if he'd stayed for a full season with us in the league but it was a chance worth taking for all concerned

My gut feeling is that Bogle and Pompey are a good fit..

Football is a short career and he could have done his ACL in his next game, had 12 months out and never been the same player so when opportunities and significant pay rises come along, you can't really turn them down because chances are, by 35, you will be unemployed.

100%. Wigan offered him a two year deal which you’d think would’ve been worth in the region of £1.5m gross to him in total. There’s absolutely no way a young man whose earnings from the game would’ve been modest up to that point could risk or afford to turn that down.

He needs this move to work out though else he’s going to be looking at a significant pay cut in the summer (if he’s not already).

He got an extra year out of his move to Cardiff, but yes I agree.

I agree too. Remember, he is essentially unproven at any level above L2 and I can see him doing the business for Pompey in L1. Massive for the player at this crucial point in his career.

Love him and eternally grateful to him, so if he never scores another league goal he'll still be ace in my eyes.

just goes to show the market value of a striker who shows potential....was never ready for the step up when he left here but Wigan were desperate so his agent has played a blinder there.

Remember saying at the time he left that he was top end of League 1, mid Championship level. Some were comparing his worth to that of Kemar Roofe, and saying he should be going for the same sort of money, which was never realistic in my eyes. Think a club like Pompey is where he fits at the moment, but he's still young enough to carry on improving and make a go of it if Pompey go up to the next level.

We can all only wish him well and i'd be chuffed for him if he finds that goalscoring touch again. Was great for this club for his goals and the money he made us. We've never looked anywhere near as potent since he left.
