It looks like Lincoln's appeal against Billy Knotts sending-off on Saturday has failed so he will be banned for the Town game.

Come Saturday night if we are 6 points ahead of them all this Fenty, Slade out Hurst was ah1t stuff will disappear for a few days at least.

Then again if it's the other way round this board will go into meltdown.

What happens on the pitch on Saturday doesn't have any bearing on the off the field issues. We won't become a well-run club in a good venue with decent facilities because of a win against the Gimps.

Also talk of pubs in Cleethorpes to be closed for one hour after the game.

That is true. Concerns about Lincoln fans after trouble at their last 2 local away games.

They've made a right nuisance of themselves in the last 2 games, for all their bragging of a sudden increase in their following they're clearly not very used to it.

All slightly exaggerated to be honest.
There were 5 train loads of fans on Saturday which were like sardine cans. The authorities knew there were 4,500 fans travelling and either they didn't have enough rolling stock or they just couldn't be ar$ed to put more carriages on I don't know.
Yes there was an incident on one of the trains on the way back and 3 were arrested but in the context of the day it was nothing.
The main problem was at Lincoln station where the police decided to bring the dogs out as the trains arrived back. I was on the first train  back and people dispersed no problem.
The second train was an official football special train with hundreds of people on board and there was a small amount of bother and it's got to be said was  instigated by the police and dog handlers as fans came out of the station going back into the city center. There was no need for dog handlers to be there, everyone would of just dispersed into the city or home and the fighting incident happened on the third train so there was absolutely no need for the police to be over aggressive with the second train as nothing had even happened to indicate that any fans were going to cause any trouble on arrival back in Lincoln.
Anyway looking forward to the cleethorpes lock down on Saturday.  Probably driving over now cos just can't be bothered with the hassle there is going to be from ob.

You should all be banned your fans are just thugs. When we visit Lincoln we only go to look at the lovely church and drink in the beautiful surroundings you lot come to drink copius amounts of ale and fight whilst breaking the law at will. Also now with your massive backing it`s intimidating for home supporters to attend and clearly hundreds of you will be doing a Cologne and taking over our ground. :-/

I was on the special train with my lad it was all good natured but the police press release has raised a few eyebrows they claimed there was trouble on the 7.30pm train from Nottingham so raced from Nottingham to intercept the 6pm special.
Time travel now within their new powers it seems.
Well OTT to greet fans going home with tasers and dogs, don't think we are alone on this as you recently had issues with exaggerated claims of trouble justifying your experiences at Stevenage.
Our fan base is mainly families now think we had 60 plus on duty for our 1st home game against the Millwall of the North west Morecambe lol.

Sounds about right.  I think there are two main reasons why the Police act like they do.

1 is to look as though they are actually earning their overtime.

2. I feel for most Police officers, when they do nick a scrote for Drugs, or thieving, etc etc, the scrote laughs in their face and they are powerless. However, they know that they can treat football fans anyway they like and nothing will be done about it.  I think all the pent up aggressiveness from during the week can then be expended on a Saturday.

I do think though, the vast majority of police still deserve our respect.  Just like football supporters, a small minority can cloud judgement on the rest.  A classic example was the Town fans at the away pub in Mansfield, everything going fine, most of the police having a laugh and a joke.  Then all of a sudden, one of the sergeants decides it's time to ramp things up.  Threatening anybody that didn't leave the pub to be escorted to the ground in the next two minutes would be on the next train to Gy.  Shouting and getting all pumped up when there really was no need.  Of course the mood then changed throughout and things got a bit tense.  Fortunately, (as far as I am aware) there were no incidents at that time.  Nevertheless, if there had have been, we all know who would have got the blame. !!

I am seriously beginning to wonder whether football clubs (and fans) in general are being used by police forces across the country in the battle for police budgets. I'll readily admit to a lack of understanding about the general concepts of police budgets but we have now clear evidence of four police forces appearing to over-egg the "risk to public order" pudding around specific matches-Derbyshire clearly talked up the level of unrest on August 5. Hertfordshire had a hand in our problems at Stevenage. Nottinghamshire on photographic evidence alone responded way too vigourously to our visit to Mansfield and now Lincolnshire appear to be on that bandwagon for a game that wasn't in their area! In this day and age it cannot be beyond the resources available for the police to identify and neutralise potential trouble makers leaving the rest of us to be treated like respectable, ordinary folk who choose watching football as a hobby.
I have a great deal of sympathy with you and your lad Helgy and all the other ordinary fans of any club who find themselves disrupted in any such way.

Reading yours and the previous posts our old intel officer has retired and now the new ones seem intent on creating a situation when there was non before.
Targeting the singing section as hooligans which is ridiculous, I think you are right they are over-egging it to justify the policing costs & manpower used.

The police probably create incidents to meet targets, as mentioned in an earlier thread thieves, druggies etc just laugh at them, were as football supporters are always guilty of whatever the police accuse them of, real or made up.

Currently Rhead isn't our first choice striker Micky and we are not just launching balls long all the time. We are adapting our style and we do play more football now.
We were the much better team last night first half against Barnet but fair play to them they totally out footballed us second half and could of easily nicked a point.

I'm hoping he doesn't play as if he does he's bound to score against us. There's already an Ollie Palmer goal to deal with.

I'm sure if Arnold is involved though, he'll get a good reception from the home crowd for scoring "that" goal.

The last 30 odd years, what are you on about. Like what have you been doing in that time , playing in the Premiership and enjoying Champions League Football!!!!!?

No, but we've spent 12 of those seasons in the second tier.

Genuine question: have Lincoln ever played that high up i the pyramid?

We finished 5th in the second tier (highest ever placing) but it was 1901-1902!

Also managed the seasons highest away win. 0 - 6 against Burton United. They might get close to that on Saturday.

You can't kid us. Everyone on here seems to be predicting an away win just to be on the safe side then you can come on here and absolutely slate us if you manage to get the victory on Saturday. I personally think it will be a lot closer than some people are (pretending ) to predict. It's a derby anything can and probably will happen. There's nothing between us as far as league position goes, it's all about on the day.

I thought it was still covered by the 3pm rule? Hope you're providing your own equipment anyway as Town struggle to update the Twitter feed for some games let alone manage to beam a live game into the airwaves/internet!

The new CEO is doing the business ,now have a fan zone1st game last night and he's changing a lot of things for the better.

Jeez Les, how dare you apply a bit of common sense and go against the Fishy grain of Lincoln being a team massively on the up and GTFC certain for impending doom, despite us having very similar starts to the season.

Anyone would think you’re a GTFC fan.

Quite. Lincoln might beat us, who knows, but they're being treated like fucking Real Madrid!

I know. We all know that we're not playing well at the minute, but the way some people are going on you'd think that Lincoln were 10 points clear at the top of the table. Until last night both teams were on the same points and Lincoln only just hung on for the 3 points last night (so I'm told anyway), so both sides should be of a similar standard and it's all about who handles the situation best on the day.

It'll be a very close game in my opinion, but I think we'll need to score at least 2 to win it as it's pretty obvious Ollie Palmer will score against us.

Why should it be a surprise that we'll sell a lot of tickets when playing our oldest rivals back in League football? I just don't get the logic behind this viewpoint.

Because all of the doom mongers on the fishy think that the fishy=real life.

There's plenty of fans out there that don't bother with message boards, and they're probably of the opinion that we've had an indifferent start rather than an utterly dreadful start.

Is this thread likely to have us accused of being 'obsessed' with them as they always used to claim? Cos I just counted 5 or 6 threads on Vital about us.
But that isn't obsession, in the same way that attacking the oppositions bus and causing chaos on trains back from Notts is NOT really anything, ok?
Glad we're clear on that.

Agree,

Read my View From Colchester thread,

It is from the Colchester reporter and manager and there was no mention of a rubbish game,

The Fishy always goes over the top on whatever we do,

We are never as bad as most make out,

BUT

Not as good as most make out when we are winning.

There is a lot of truth in that. Even to be a message board member means you like to analyse, dissect and argue the points of everything from the non chairman down whilst the majority of fans just get on with it.

Let us hope the weekend sparks us into life.

I get your point but last night there was four people in my group, all season ticket holders and the other three don't come on this board at all. To a man, we all thought the game and overall matchday experience was dull in the main. We are treading water, waiting for a bit of excitement. When you almost certainly know that if we go behind, we will draw at best, it sort of kills it when the opposition get an early goal. They are a poor side playing away with a dreadful away record, yet we never really got a charge on and pinned them back for any sustained period. We never really do that to anyone.

It's all very odd, fans saying they were bitten by police dogs, police saying no such things happened. I'm all for rival fans sticking together against this but Towncryer used up a bit of that goodwill with his made up post.
Town do have a problem at times with these idiots but bigger followings increase that risk, as Lincoln are finding out.

Sounds like you lot are facing the same issues football fans all over are. Simply being a football fan is 'criminal' apparently.

It's sad that of over 4000 having a good day out, the actions of a few caused a massive, ill-advised over-reaction by the police. Yet again.

The (relative) success you're having, and the increased popularity of LCFC is probably one of the best things to have happened to the city of Lincoln in recent years. A real good news story. If I was leader of the city council, I'd want to meet the Chief Constable of Lincs Police, supporters reps, and the railway company to find out the facts. I'd want to know why my city's name was effectively being dragged through the mud, and why its citizens going about their lawful private business were treated like criminals.

I got involved with BTTB must have been 7 years ago ,when 50 Grimsby fans cycled to Sincil Bank and 5 of us from Lincoln met them half way.
Then was involved with the fans games used to play at Grimsby then end of the season at Sincil Bank they were great games to play in.

I did both BTTB and football matches against Lincoln and loved every minute of it, some genuinely decent lads at Lincoln.

To save making another thread for me this game is massive for our club. Not because it's a derby but because we will have over 3,000 paying customers so we must perform! If we do well I can see a few more sneaking through the gates, if we play poorly then I'm worried about the future
