3 minutes of football after kick off, and I thought yes we can have these. Then hoofball in what looks like a swirling wind, no one picking up the 2nd ball even when Matt wins it, corners and freekicks being launched into our six yard box for Macca's usual flapping and flailing meaning lots of scrambles with headers and clearances off the line, though Macca has  pulled off 2 or 3 point great blank saves at his near post. They seem simply bigger, quicker and stronger. Got to change something, the couple of times we have played out from the back it has looked promising.

The most galling thing is that if we're not going to attempt a passing game then we need an alternative. Conceding the midfield as we do in most games surely means we'll try and get goals from set pieces but even they've sounded pretty awful so far.

I don't hate everything. I'm just a bit miffed that we are not that good at the moment. I don't think we're great when we win and i don't think we are terrible when we lose. We are just a middling team that will win some and lose some, unless there is a radical shift in form, which doesn't look likely at the moment.

One positive is that Summerfield is having a decent game, two 18+ yard efforts on goal both deflected but stinging shots nonetheless. And his passing is back to basics stuff which keep us in possession!

Sladeball is drab by nature. He's a more animated version of Hurst but i agree with you; around mid table unless we somehow manage to break the inconsistency.

Normal service resumed, couple of half chances when we got the ball down and they stopped closing down our defenders. Goal happened exactly as I said to Son Of after 20 mins. Corner/freekick into 6 yard box, Macca rooted to his line or on the floor after another flap and Amond toe pokes in  from 3/4 yards with no one near him. Newport knew our weakness and played exactly how they needed to.

This is a point that keeps getting put forward but i can't see what the fans can do about it. What happens if you don't accept it? We still have the same manager and players, so the only option is either go to the games or don't go to the games. If everyone stops going, the club dies.

It's like we're in some kind of 13 year time warp back to Slade's first season of his first spell. Crowds will go down because of a lack of entertainment, let's hope the budget for next season doesn't go down accordingly. I don't suppose Slade will be going anywhere after the way he was appointed.

No we're not. We aint that good admittedly, but i would say we are currently middling. I agree it will be a boring season though, as Slade is a boring manger in my opinion. Didn't like his brand of footy last time and nothing much has changed by the look of it.

Agreed. As i've said, i'm not a fan but this suggestion that it's the fans at fault for accepting mediocrity is farcical. The fans can't do much about it and are about the best thing at the club.

Why would Slade be going anywhere? We've got a brand new squad and we have inconsistent form (and that includes wins as well as losses). The league has not even begun to settle down and there's every chance we could come good.

We're more miss then hit, our defence is poor at best and we don't have a striker at the moment who can score and a midfield that turns up one week and then wonders off the next, how can you think we will come good?

Just the one pint so far. Seriously though, we won our last few games before this....one loss and suddenly we're certainties for relegation again. Meanwhile Lincoln are doing exactly the same as us but they're apparently a team on the up.

Dunno, maybe it's the optimist in me, but i enjoy supporting town, and part of that enjoyment comes from a sense of optimism that we might have a good season. Obviously that might not be the case, but I personally think it's too early to call that.

After a poor start we are at least not getting walloped our defence does look vulnerable but we are where we are.

A virtual team rebuild, new manager and all that entails.

If people thought we was going to come flying out the blocks playing fluent one touch passing game with complete understanding they must be still "spoilt" from the Buckley golden years.

I'll have a pint of whatever your on.

Slades changed his hoof it, as that mostly got to one of our players who either laided it off or knocked it on to another player to HIT & HOPE.

We were so pedestrian I was expecting a Lollypop Lady to be subbed on, definitely not exciting enough for the Green Cross Code Man.

We all enjoy and endure supporting Town and we'll always want to be better than we actually are. Truth is we're not that good but we're not dreadful either - we need more end product but there's no point berating our midfield when our defenders blaze the ball over their heads etc. - I don't know whether that's deliberate or not. We just seem to be more capable than the tactics allow us to be.

At least someone see's sense tonight and takes a pragmatic view on current form. Still early days folks. We'll get a more realistic picture round about December time time were we will see our true form? Two wins on the bounce last week and The Fishy was all lets get behind the team. We lose today and its nothing but point the finger of blame lets get rid of Slade etc....... FFS get a grip you bunch of half glass full tw@ts  (anger3)

Glen Downey, what a player he maybe was assuming he actually existed thats still up for discussion. But that winner against Wrexham was fantastic.

Totally agree that the over reaction to win or loss is unbelievable. Said a few weeks ago that I expect us to have strong second half of the season and still believe that will happen. Yes we need to improve but no outstanding sides in League 2 this year and it will be some time before we can really judge where we will finish.

Personally, think we are not strong enough this year but after 6 years in the Conference I can be patient and accept that it will take time for us to be pushing for automatic promotion but play offs you never know!!!

Either way off for a beer and just hope we win next Saturday so next week's pint tastes that much better

This current Town team is rubbish, anybody thinks any different and they are deluded.  Have we played one decent game all season !!!  Hoof ball Slade will serve up the same rubbish all season long.  It is no coincidence that this man has never gained a promotion in some 20 seasons in football.  As ever we will put up and shut up and just accept the crap we see week in week out.  I can totally accept all those fans who have chosen to stay away until Fenty leaves the club.  We have no ambition, no direction and no drive.  Our support is dwindling game by game, and a bad home defeat by a very average Lincoln team could be the last straw for many a town fan this season...............

The team isn't rubbish by all means. If it was it would be rubbing shoulders with FGR et al within the bargain basement of teams in this division. Same old excuse, lets blame Fenty, Slade blah blah blah. It's getting beyond boring now. Too many fans keep churning the same old balderdash every week and are so fcukin negative to the extent it boils my pis$. We win some, we lose some and are a club in transition from the Conference.

How many people are actually happy with the squad we've got and don't think they're rubbish? Genuine question because everyone I've spoken to has said we're average at best.

Perhaps might me as a result of the team turning out negative performances, even when we win we are no great shakes.

We've got quantity over quality. The squad is a bit lop-sided and we could do with a couple of attacking players being replaced by defensive ones. Out of the squad, most of them are alright. We don't have many players that are truly terrible that can't get anywhere near the team like we have done in the past (the likes of Terry Barwick, Jermaine Palmer, Damian Spencer, Greg Pearson and Hamish Watson). But then we don't have any really outstanding players either.

We've got a few who I'd happily shift but then we've got a few who are potentially pretty good. Average at best sums us up really.

Mediocre's a better word. Hopefully it will all come together sometime soon.

I'm feeling similar, I don't think we are great at the moment but we have a few decent players and a couple of good prospects to come back. I think Russ will need to balance the squad though in January as it's a bit lop sided

We are actually a good illustration of why the transfer window should close before the season starts as we are a bit of a "last minute.com" side with players joining at the deadline and the side not geling until the late autumn, if it actually ever will. People moan about players on 2 year deals but this is partly why we have offered those terms.

In this league if a side can be mid table at Christmas they still have a chance so let's take a view then.

Personally though I would like to see the ball on the deck a bit more as when we get it down we've looked ok.

Now that was pants. No game plan, Macca was MOM. Summerfield the only player to pass along the deck.

We might be mediocre (rubbish) but over the 6 years in conference when did we play keep ball pass and move football? The players are league 2 level, in fact about 99% of the players in this league are, that's why their playing in this league. It's win some lose some, you just hope we win more than we lose.
Posted by: lukeo, September 23, 2017, 8:41pm; Reply: 115
They're league 2 players but even I can pass a ball and keep it on the deck and the highest I've ever played is the mid Devon and Exeter division 3..
This is not any sort of comment about the game, I've only seen the result just a reply to people who think players at league 2 level shouldn't or wouldn't know how to pass a ball on the floor.

Was this the same team that beat Accrington away.
That evening we were excellent again a league high flyer.
Don't know about the average fan, but when I play golf I have good days and bad. Maybe that just happens to GTFC players too?
The top teams get players who can be consistent. League 4 clubs get players who can be good, but do have off-days. Hopefully as we regain our position in the 92 clubs we can get better every year until we reach top half of League 1, which is what we can realistically expect.

Your point about Div 4 players is bang on, and that is reflected in many sides in this league not just GTFC.

Played golf at Ilkley on Monday, other than the rain was excellent, good course as was Normanton on Tuesday. Beats moaning about RS and our average players, nobody was more average than Rob Jones when he first played and he turned out ok. Lets hope some of the more recent signings do the same.

Watch England, how many games do we have more possession than the opposion, nearly every international team play more technically than us, and these players are on 100k a week, were not Barcelona, just be patient and our good times will come back(not saying it will be under Slade) it's swings and roundabouts.

I'm not sure if Watson fits into that bracket considering he was never given the slightest chance to impress. incidentally, he's playing in the Australian premier now. I know the quality's not great, but it's certainly better than league 2 football.

I've had a good laugh reading through 11 pages of male masturbation.ker sh.ite slagging off anyone associated with gtfc . Get a grip we're a L2 club , we all want to win every week Buckley style . But guess what ? It's not going to happen . As long as  the team tries we can't ask a lot more . Does anyone on here who's actually got any brain think slade just says " boot it from the back and sound the cavalry charge " as tactics ? Ffs

See a lot of people saying they feel disassociated from GTFC compared to the non league years. And I get it, but dare I say that it's partly because.....*whispers*...we don't win most weeks/aren't expected to win most weeks like we got used to down there?

Not sure how many games you have been to this season but there have been times when that is what it looks like he might have said unless the players are all taking the urine and ignoring him.

I agree with most of this post. I think we do have a very select group of capable players within the squad although in terms of lopsidedness we are carrying a disproportionate amount of distinctly average to very poor squad members. I do think we probably have enough to stay up although I hope that the powers that be watch this season closer than they did in 08/09 and think wisely about budget and personnel next season.

We had a team that worked for each other and put the extra shift in.

It was a experienced  squad ESTABLISHED with two prolific strikers who have proved they can score at league levels also a good solid defence.

We dominated sides at home and away especially, looked really good constantly in the playoff zone.

If Slade can get that winning mentality into these players we might look better we certainly have some decent players imho.

Still a new squad very much learning hopefully we will start to click soon.
