No Jones either. I do find it strange that so many people think 442 is the holy grail of formations on here. It's rarely utilised by successful teams anymore, and I believe I'm right in saying that none of the 3 teams promoted from this league last season predominantly used it. That said, lets hope sladey can prove me a mug.

We'd have been much higher up the League last season if we'd played 4-4-2 with the wingers we have now playing. Osborne, Jones, Dembele in the same side would cause anybody loads of problems

I'm happy to see us play 4-4-2 at home, maybe now we will be more attacking than in previous home matches.

i cancelled my iplayer last month thinking i'd not be able to listen in anymore on Saturdays, find myself sat here now so wondered is their any other way of listening without paying for iplayer?

The formation hasn't been the issue though, as much as the style of play we've tried to employ. But as I said, I hope I'm a fan of 442 by the end of the day.

It was Rose that scored, press association got it wrong and every news outlet have followed suit

Who would of thought it, passing the ball around rather then hoofing it to a loan striker and 4ft 5 winger and pressing high on the pitch instead of sitting on our own goal line soaking up pressure would work, but it has its a miricle!!! We're looking good looking confortable and creative crewe are looking lack luster and creating no real threat so far, lets hope this continues

He'll be fine just took a nock towards the end. If not bring on DJ and Crewe won't know what hit them as a bigger version of Dembele is in their face.

In other news I've gone to a music festival in Warrington and Grimsby Boro are in FA Cup action round the corner. Rude not to pop in. 0:0 they are not looking two leagues lower.

First time I've seen hooper and I've been impressed. Reminds me a bit of Bogle. Lump it up to him and he quickly gets frustrated and throws himself about. But play it to his feet and the defenders really struggle with him. I've also been impressed with Rose, who has done a bit of everything in there in midfield, and has a real engine. Maybe I've been converted to 442 already.

Rose can sometimes stray a bit out of position and isn't the best on the ball but he's a bundle of energy and wins the ball back really well. I would love to see him playing with Clements as I think they'd compliment each other well.

Our 1st home win,

Crewes 1st defeat,

We keep 11 players on the pitch,

A good day all round.

Rose was absolutely buggered after an hour and gave away the ball no end of times after that. Contributed a lot to their late pressure. A bit nail biting at the end but we spurned several great chances to break with some poor passes and bad decisions.

We've got a lot to work on in training because the team currently has more individual ability than it is showing and we'll need to play a lot better than that to get anywhere this season.

Well done to Osborne and Hooper who both played well today.

Still looked weak up front, midfield did great creating chances then it broke down. Macca was great in the last 10 minutes considering he must of been getting quite bored. Berret and Rose both looked knackered by the end and poor passing invited pressure like Maringer said.

Overall I'm impressed like my previous post said its amazing what pressing high and passing the ball can do instead of defending your own goal line and hoofing the ball to a lone striker can do. Woolford looked great, finally a player dropping down the leagues who still looks like he could play at a higher level.

Now 2 points off playoffs and 3 points off relegation.
That's more like it, but two difficult away games coming up.

Think we will have some red card warriors back next week.
Posted by: RoboCod, September 2, 2017, 5:13pm; Reply: 65
Really pleased with that. First game I've felt positive about, I'd hoped the 2 signings would figure at some point and I felt before the game if we kept a clean sheet we'd win.
1 clean sheet, no red cards and 3 pts from an impressive display. Let's hope it all kickstarts from here.

Let's hope we can drive on from here,  the next two away games should act as good tests Iof whether we can make progress this season. Onwards and upwards

Thought we deservedly won and Osborne was very good at the back. Great block on the line near the end.
Posted by: jamesgtfc, September 2, 2017, 5:31pm; Reply: 69
Good, gritty performance. Thought Rose played the ball around the pitch really well and some of his long diagonal balls were great. Much deserved goal and great ball in from Dembele.

Thought Woolford was going to be another Scunthorpe Agent when he lost possession early on but he looked solid and complemented Dixon very well. Hooper looked a completely different player alongside Vernon/Matt.

Nobody played badly and think we should stick with that 11 next week.

Lastly, hope Conor Grant is OK. Never nice to see a player out cold on the pitch.

UTM. Let's kick on now!

A big relief, and held on to a must win game under pressure which is good. Seemed steadier with this formation as we thought we would do. Mitch Rose seems a very good signing for us so far, a core of players who you wouldn't take out the team starting to form which is important. I can't keep up with who's suspended or injured at the minute.
