I'm not he's a waste of wages, at least Cardwell will give it a go if we put him up front.

Why don't we try getting behind the team and all the players instead of writing them off after two bad games.

Whatever the performance, we went behind v Coventry due to a dubious refereeing decision and might have otherwise got a point.  Against Chesterfield we had a goal disallowed and a penalty disallowed.

There's 43 more league games as well as Cups.  I'm sure the players prefer supporters to moaners.

It's not like we're gonna win the competition and a very low chance of us getting past Derby and Barnsley to get a money spinning tie..

Dembele showing his quality again tonight. Always looking to run at their back line and causing issues.
Kelly having an ok game in the middle.

Rose and Hooper not playing well at all.

Derby haven't really done much so far,

JJ Hooper is literally everything in a striker we hoped as a club we got away from .

He has done eff all tonight and the shining light is dembele as usual.
Posted by: Maringer, August 22, 2017, 8:36pm; Reply: 31
Didn't go on Saturday but we've matched them tonight. A relatively low-key performance from both teams and they had the better of the first 15 or 20 minutes but I reckon we've shaded it since then. Bolarinwa the first to test either keeper in the 45th minute!

Berrett playing quite well. Hooper got off to a slow start but has done OK since then. He's realised he's not going to win many headers so is holding the defender off to let the ball bounce past them! Looks a very lackadaisical runner so I can see why he's accused of being lazy!

Some really good and tricky runs from Dembele but with no end product. Best touch of the game was from McKeown who plucked a wild, skied backpass from Rose out of the air with the outside of his foot!
Posted by: mimma, August 22, 2017, 8:39pm; Reply: 32
Yes we are playing well. Dembele is causing them all sorts of problems coming in from the right touchline. He has unbelievable skills. We haven't looked out of place and played some good football. Not many chances at either end.

One piece of outrageous skill from Macca from a lofted back pass from Rose. He took it out of the air and killed it dead with his foot before looking up and clearing it.

I'm just starting to think Slade is the shadow of the manager he was since he was last here ..

I mean cup nights were Slade nights but tonight just nowt , I seriously think the poor bloke is mentally shot from having been sacked from about 20 different clubs.

He has no confidence in himself hence the one striker he now plays with ,I mean would our old Russ play one striker at home ? I know football moves on but I just don't think Russ has.

Btw this is not a dig as I like Slade as a person he comes across to have time with the fans and the media but come on Russ you have certainly bought in some excrement to the club this season players wise and your dinosaur tactics won't work in 2017.

I don't think the players we have available is helping. It's becoming quickly apparent our squad is severely lacking in quality. Beyond Dembele (and maybe McKeown & Collins) there's not one player who can claim to have had a decent start to the season. We're relying on far too many players who we already know are utter dross, and now it seems half of them are incapable of staying on the pitch for 90 minutes. There's no comparison to the players we had in Slade's last team - Bolland, Rob Jones, Gary Jones, Mildenhall, Reddy, Cohen, Whittle, McDermott etc. all miles superior to what we have now.

3033 attendance with 850+ from Derby. Interesting. Think there'll be less than that on Saturday.
Posted by: mariner91, August 22, 2017, 9:16pm; Reply: 68
I think it's quite obvious from the way the summer panned out that he was hoping for other targets to sign and missed the vast majority of them. However, as a manager you have to expect that and have a reasonable 2nd, 3rd, even 4th and 5th target and we just haven't brought in anyone with any quality. I also think we were looking to get players in that played differently to the ones we've got and he's struggling to adapt the side. For example, both Tyler Walker and Nicky Maynard who we were supposedly after play very differently to Hooper who seems very reluctant to make channel runs. This isn't making excuses for RS btw, he's the one who signed the players and once you've signed them you have to work out how to get the best out of your team.

There are no teams with as much experience as Grimsby playing 10 against 11 in all of the the league system.

Players that can not pass the ball ,

Feels like a similar run to last year until it was broken by the Bogle show in a 5 - 2 win versus Stevenage (of all people) big concern is the lack of a Bogle type up front this season to date.

Unlike some I was at the game.

Penalty looked a bit soft from where I was sat.

Sending off was a joke. Didn't even look like a foul and a lot worse tackles didn't warrant a card. There seemed to be two sets of rules one for them and a completely different set for us.

We nearly nicked an equaliser at the death when Macca went up and got a free header but put it wide.

They were wasting time at the end against 10 men.

I thought we played good football but didn't have a cutting edge. They didn't either.

I bet virtually every one of their starting eleven would walk into any league two side. They probably are all paid £10kplus a week.

For all that we did ok against them however the lack of firepower is a huge worry. Clarke made a howler for the penalty but generally played well against Chris Martin who has had a good career in Championship, far from the standard we will face in League 2.

Berrett, and I am far from a fan, competed well whist Tom B and Dembele also looked decent.

The one that really got my goat this evening was Ben Davies. For an experienced player his first yellow was pathetic, his show of petulance outweighed how unlucky the 2nd yellow may have been.

Far more encouraged by tonight than some of the doom and gloom merchants on here. Still hope for a loan striker to spark us and give us some firepower as Hooper looks clueless

Wasn't bad at all, we matched a good derby side. Nothing outstanding but we certainly put in a good shift and had some bright moments. Berrett had a good game, Tom B and dembele very good. Would like to see more of DJ, looked bright in the short spell he had on the pitch.

I think we all agree we're lacking a goal scorer and never really looked like scoring (although creating a few good chances.) Maybe play 442 and we might have more luck? You can't really blame the strikers when they're so isolated upfront. Although Hooper sadly looked useless.

Credit where credit is due, if we play with the same attitude Saturday we should get something from the game.

Hooper and Kelly up front powder puff and will be the demise of Slade  if he continues playing them, the rest of them did Ok

I thought that Rose was Towns best player. He was all over the pitch breaking up attacks and he kept the ball well.

Dembele has unbelievable skills. Goes past players for fun . Looked knackered when he was subbed.

Also one of the best games I've seen Bolly play. He could be influential for us this season against 2nd. div. players

We did OK tonight despite the ex Port Vale duo. It was not entirely a Derby reserve side with the likes of Vydra and Martin up top.

Are you kidding Oldun?

They are proven Championship goal scorers. Vydra helped Watford get into the prem. and had a full season there.

If that was Derby's reserve team, they must have a pretty strong squad - 7 full internationals in the starting line-up tonight. A narrow defeat after playing a third of the game with ten men (thanks in part to what looked another extremely harsh red card, it must be said), isn't half bad at all. Derby certainly couldn't have complained had we nicked an equaliser near the end from the overall balance of play - despite the fact that we have a terribly weakened squad ourselves due to injuries in midfield and up front! - and we still managed more efforts on target than them.

Some of the comments earlier in this thread from those who didn't go to the game are, frankly, pathetic.

The team is not there yet, that's for sure, a number of the players have a lot to prove yet and the formation isn't working at the moment, but to claim we played anything but pretty well tonight is way off the mark.

First game I haven't watched was last night.

I went more than a month not posting on here over the summer because I didn't want to be negative about how the club was being promoted since last season and a bit shocked at RS and PW quality of signings too. My gut feelings are on the whole correct so far, early days I know.

You may think I'm pathetic and a doom merchant someone else said. Well I'm not. I actually think that over the past fifteen seasons too many fans have been conditioned into accepting mediocrity and hang on far too much to slivers of hope in the name of loyalty.

I am going to speak out if I think there are ways that the club could be run better, I am going to give my honest opinion on signings or PR or club funding. Why? Because I want the best for my club and more than mediocre for our far from mediocre fans. I write about it in the hope that one or two others add to that voice so when GYFR is trawling through this late at night, something hits home.

Isn't anyone else bored of the same old, put up with this and put up with that season after season. We need some new investment and blue sky thinking to get out of this long term rut that at least a few of us can see is happening.

Shout all you like about new investment . It isn't coming anytime soon with GYFR in charge.

We are not going to go from 6 years in non league to world beaters overnight. We are a few players short without a doubt but there has been a massive over reaction to the last two league games imo. We have to rebuild the club, and that is a long and sometimes slow progres. That isn't accepting mediocrity but equally realism has to come into it.

A glass half full fan would say a win on Saturday gives us 6 points from the first 4 games which isn't a disaster by any means.

Last night was encouraging except for the goal threat. Hopefully someone like Tyler Walker could solve that through the loan market

Some investment last season and I reckon we'd have been promoted , Some people including the chairman think that being back in the four division is an achievement and are happy just to sit here doing nothing.
I've always pretty much backed Fenty but I honestly believe he's tried to do this season on the cheap and it looks like it'll bite us in the bottom

Well I think we have spent money backstage on fitness coaches and equipment etc which is no bad thing, at the expense of signing a couple of quality players, one being a proven goal scorer.
If we just go that final half mile we could suprise a few
