What's happened with hart Dixon mustoe ?are they all asking for too much money there's only around 10 days left before season starts getting a bit worried about the left back position

Wouldn't be a slade pre season without an African a Moroccan and a Scotsman on trial.

Two Africans and a Scotsman walk into Blundell Park...

Sounds like the first line of a joke.

Maybe Slade's letting them know there are other fish in the sea....which might prompt (one of) them to lower their demands.
The players only have the same 10 days to find a club to start the season with, after all.

Surely if a player is out of contract he can sign for anyone?

Yes. I fail to see how I suggested otherwise.

Sounds like desperation this late in pre-season.

Full name  Marvin Willem Ofori-Appiah

Aged 23. Been in and around the Belgium squads under 18, 19 and 21.
Only 23 full appearances at 1st team level.

Obviously Slade not 100% sure on Mustoe yet.??
Rather we get the right man in now instead of having someone sub standard till the January Transfer window

So he will see this guy play Winterton and make a snap decision?

Mustoe looked OK to me the other night, but perhaps Slade wants the option of a bit more pace at the back? Assuming that this Belgian chap has more pace, of course. If he's been around the representative squads, you'd think he'd be nippy enough as the Belgians have had some flipping good young players in his age group.

I would think if he shows promise he will be subbed and play some of the match against Wigan.

we need someone. I thought that Mustoe was a little lost and out of his depth on Tuesday.

Grew into the game though. I did not think Dixon was any better.

Could be that the others have/want a higher signing on fee than slade prepared to pay or they have agents who are asking for a large fee. He may also want to sign more than one left back so have got some options in case of injury. Either way think he will make a move after tonight and to be fair all have been fairly decent (not comparing anyone to Danny Andrews as this is pointless as he has gone).

Think we have looked really good at time during preseason although a bit "rusty" in places but positive signs.

Roll on Chesterfield who have not been very complimentary about GTFC dragging up stories from 20 years ago and the game on the first day of the season is our "cup final" as hoping the team can give them a surprise  (or two)!

Indeed, I was just having a little peek at their forum yesterday and, as you say most are not very complimentary at all about us.

I think this was my favourite quote though, after we'd been given more tickets.

I think I hate these scum more than any other team. Personally, I'd contain them in one end, rather than giving them the opportunity to spread more violence

Dixon was steady and defensively strong. Mustoe looked alright on the ball, but lost when defending

Would make sense for us to sign 2 LB's by the end of August. We had Andrew and cover (not that it was needed) in Dan Jones last season. Very rare these days that a player appears in every game in a season these days.

Eh? Mustoe did perfectly fine defensively. Blackburn weren't really playing with attacking wide men so we didn't perhaps see him put under enough pressure in that respect, but I don't see what there was to criticise from the defensive side of his performance.

This Belgian chap ought to have a better pedigree as he's been in the international squads for various age groups, or so you might think, so perhaps he'll do well for himself tonight.

We'll bringing Gally out of retirement at this rate  ;)

He may have liked his ale but Gally was a good solid left back at a much higher level too.

I'd have the Gally of 15 years ago back in a shot.

So what's the crack then with these left backs, is Dixon  signing? Is somebody else signing and he is giving people trials to decide who will be the back up option? Because I'd like to see 2 left backs sign, we can't just have one

Only 8 days before the first league game and as it stands our defence looks threadbare, midfield looks weak but over stocked (pre injury) and wingers and strikers might need another body to cover all angles.

Not for me on first impressions..might be harsh on him cos i dont know if he speaks English or how long he has been with town, may have just met the team at winterton.  But every time he went to control it, it bounced off him for a throw. He did look to pass along the floor when he had time though.  My opinion is he was the worst of the left back trialists ive seen, so I expect him to sign later today and be a massive success  ;D
