The club have announced that 1,000 ST have now been sold with 114 new applicants,

Halfway through the discount period so club are still hoping to hit 2,500,

With a couple more really good signings I would say 3,000 + would be the total they should be aiming for.

Shocking really.

114 New Applicants suggests that 2500 could be a challenge considering the early bird period has been on since they went on sale. I'm not convinced that the type of signings we are in a position to make would motivate someone to spend the money.

Let's be realistic, 2,500 is a good amount for the season coming. We've been down in the dumps for long enough and last year was our first season back in the FL. 3 manager changes and a mid table finish isn't going to drag more people in sadly. Let's hope for a good season ahead and aim to bring more through the turnstiles next season.

20% down on last season is a failure. Last years sales might have been a record but that positivity has been squandered. No rwowats about it.

Its one of them, although I think slade and wilkinson will do a good job, its been the least exciting summer weve had in a while surely doesn't quite feel like were building to much and though im hoping for a good season, I can't really say with real assured confidence that we'll finish above 10th, so I can understand a bit why they might drop off

End of the month (payday) next week. A few more sales then, I expect.

It's only a failure if it below budgeted figures, if the club only budgeted for 2,000 season tickets this season then it would be a success.

I would imagine Fenty would have told Slade the budget is based on 2,500 STH,

With an average attendance of 4,800,

Go above those figures and the extra money generated you can have for more players.

We were never likely to match last summer's total. A lot easier to sell tickets on the back of a promotion than on the back of a mid table nothing season.

I think the budget conversations where as much around what is left from the sale of Omar as it was season ticket income.

We dont have a rich backer so we cant spend more than we can afford. If we make the same mess as Orient and a few others i dont think there is anyone in the Grimsby area with the deep pockets willing to pull us out of the mess. A few good signings now will establish us in L2 this season and we can build on that
When we have the new ground hopefully our financial fortunes will also change. Im confident RS and Wilko will make us competitive for at least mid table and if these younger recruits turn out to be a bit of quality who know where we will end up. :)

I think some of it has to do with a lot of fans being underwhelmed by the squad we have  at the moment going into the season, I know there's time still for some signings that may possibly "raise the hairs" but I'm not too confident of that. We have lost some fans favourites, Disley, Pearson, Gowling, who have been with us through the promotion campaigns, and speaking for myself I was sad to see them leave as they felt like part of the family, and with a couple of exceptions it seems like we are starting all over again with a bunch of strangers, and I suppose that's football, but I don't like it.
I don't have enough confidence in some of those players that Bignot brought in, and that Slade can't get rid of, to give me much inspiration for a successful season ahead. I hope I'm wrong , and I suppose I will renew my season ticket, but at the moment I'm not enthused enough to go straight out tomorrow buy it.

We've all got reservations but we're all still GTFC - get down to the Park tomorrow & get your wallet out.

I think it might be as simple as people are just nervous about spending money, election, Brexit, weekly bad news stories etc.. etc... does have an impact on consumer confidence & how people spend surplus income. Summer holiday for the family or a couple of season tickets what would you choose.

the club have gone on record as saying minimum play offs havnt they ?

One of the criticisms of Bignot appears to have been that he had a long term vision based on investment and development of the club.....not a quick fix......as the structure wouldnt support it..........RS stated that he expected to make play off's this coming season.....RS has won the board over regards that, hence why he is now in charge.
Can he deliver ?

He speaks of having a smaller, tight knit squad....certainly seems that way at the moment.....RS has addressed some of the width issues but we are still a bit (completely) light at left back....maybe up top as well.

I wasnt over impressed with the overall standard of the League last season and think that an average ability, yet organised squad can go along way.....i expect us to be organised....as yet not overall sure abut the ability/ make up of the squad.

Good post Perkins. Sums up my feelings at the moment.seems like we've signed mid 2 level players ready made for a mid table finish.hope I'm wrong and he moulds them into an exciting unit

Bit harsh on Bignot re signings. 2 of his will be massive players for us this year. I'd guess there's more of Hurst's signings Slade would like to be rid of.

I think we are in safe hands in Slade and Wilko and I will be getting another season ticket but things just seem a bit deflated at the moment.

After all these changes in managers and all the changes in the squad yet again, we just need to get a settled group together like we have done in our successful past.

Hate them or hate them...pretty impressive figures from Lincoln for once, looking like they will virtually sell out their home allocation to STH.  Due to match day segregations they appear to have capped ST sales at 6000 to allow for a full away end with full segregation in place, any games that don't need this they will sell the rest of the seats as match day tickets.

IMPressive , band wagoner's or not.

They have 100% got things right in regards to ST sales. Town failed miserably to capitalize on the goodwill they had after regaining league status last Season and have never once shown any kind of initiative when it comes to shifting them in numbers.I don`t doubt the people in the ticket office/commercial department work hard BUT do they ever think for themselves or is it a given to flog Season tickets first of June and hope for the best?

buy a season ticket;

it guarantees your chosen seat for every League game
prices are going to rise next season by around 10%

I think thats captured the entire initiative to date.

All for banter but they still only have 6 or 7 posters on their one and only message board with most of the threads coming from Jules and what tampax or pads she should get for her next period. I bet those gimps could fill the cast for the Goonies without any need for prosthetics or make up.

Hey you guys we've sold 5,000 bellringing tickets.

We are the biggest team in Lincolnshire. We'll see what their average attendance is when they potter along in 14th all season, I bet it's not in excess of 5000 like ours was. All those glory supporters will soon disappear. If we're in a promotion push we'll be able to attract 6000+ each week I reckon.

They've sold 5500 season tickets so unless a great deal of them don't turn up and literally no away fans ever go then I would imagine it will be over 5000 even if they're in 14th. If they don't do so well this year, it might be different next year but this year they'll almost certainly have bigger attendances than us.

I wasn't taking the p1ss with the question to be honest. As we are still sat on a fair bit of the Omar money then the cash flow position will be healthy which is the most important bit to the bean counters so maybe there is no need to do anything different to what we have in recent years, feels odd that I know

I think there could have been more incentives such as buy and adult ticket for the Main and get a big discount off a kids ticket etc....but put yourself where the club is would you rather sell say 2300 at full price or 2800 at a discount and possibly gross less money when "if" we start to do well people will buy full price tickets on a weekly basis.

Also the price increase next year will be part of a 5 year forecast taking us towards a new stadium if we discounted heavily now to put "bums on seats" that proposed increase would hurt fans (customers?) more at the start of 18/19 and thus jeopardize sales and thus the financial plan. We all know that nothing including boosting attendances at a discount or Nimbys with pitch forks will get in the way of our proposed move to Shangri-La!

Though it may grind that the Gimps have sold loads you can't compare their situation with ours, they have money in the bank from possibly their biggest season ever more to come from South Africa and buckets of good will and bandwagoners who have suddenly miraculously taken an interest.

Have we employed the right policy on season tickets? Not sure to be honest as like many on here I don't know the full facts or accounting numbers involved.

That's not how budgeting works, especially with income. If Fenty had budgeted for 3,000 season tickets and not more like the average of 2,300 of the past few years I'd be amazed. Last year was a one off season ticket sales wise and probably wont be matched unless we get promoted. If your boss judges you on one anomalous set of results, you need to find a new job.

Anything

I have posted on this subject numerous times, emailed the Club direct, emailed the Trust and basically suggested they tap into the shift worker market which is huge in NE Lincs.Last year probably within a week of Promotion I was told several things I suggested where being looked at and wait for news im still waiting.........
I would have easily shifted more than 3k Season tickets we should have had pretty much home sell outs week in week out with just 6500 to sell and Lincoln have just proved the point. They haven't done anything clever they have just exploited the goodwill factor whilst it`s there Town never have they just sit back and wait I can only assume that`s because we budget for maybe 2k Season ticket holders and are happy if anywhere round that number?

The  obvious things about Junior fans is you need to have them because they are the future of the Club, they don't have much income of their own BUT if little Johnny wants a Town shirt, scarf, programme etc he will get one.It is so difficult in this day and age to drag kids away from the Xbox or whatever and they have so many options to spend their free time GTFC are a long way down the pecking order. Those parents/guardians who do bring kids along should be given all the help the Club can muster to keep them coming and sustaining that support. The Trust does not run the Football Club but it should have it`s ear and be listened to we have seen at times this is the case but sadly it appears some things also fall on deaf ears.

Another Grimsby v Lincoln point ref attendances I am pretty sure Town`s stayed on or about what they were in League 2 and held up despite nil away support though I think under Woods they plummeted for a while? Lincoln on the other hand seemed down quite a lot til last Season when they hit great form a quick scout through League 2 will show both teams will have decent support compared to most.I hope we can go through all this again next season with both in League 1 then we can both ridicule the worst support in Lincolnshire ;D

That's not quite true though is it? Vitals has hundreds of posters, everyone that clicks or posts raises money for the club. The biggest and more busier MB is the Lincoln City Banter board that has over 12,600 and counting members.

Sorry Impish, bang on all you want about impressive ticket sales but Vitals is a shite, shite board with mostly new posters coming out of the woodwork along with their season ticket purchases. The Fishy has always stayed massively popular, never bans people for minor banter (Vitals Big Girls Blouse admins) and is incredibly welcoming to opposing fans who wish to chew the fat on general football, including Lincoln. Vitals is none of those things, with decent fair minded posters counted in single figures.
Clicks,clicks....Money really seems an obsession with Lincoln fans.

I haven't said a word about ST sales?

As for Vitals, it's a bit old school but does welcome fans of other teams to be fair. They don't get that many new posters. LCB is much more manic and more populated with some of the recent fans, its constantly busy. I used to post on here before so not sure if any of you remember my challenge that Lincoln would do better than Grimsby when we both met for the first time in the conference? Learned my lesson on that one  :)

Can't see that money is an obsession with Lincoln fans, we probably have certain views on the FGR and Eastleighs of this world (and Mansfield now) like most but we don't normally have any, that's a nice change for the next few seasons at least.

Certain posters on Vitals are always going on about us spending loads of money saying Fenty was spending "big money" which is total boll0cks. The fact is we had a bit more money to spend because our fans didn't abandon the club to the same extent your fans did and we generally spent the money we did have better than you did. That is until you finally got your act together and got a very good management pair and rightfully gained your place back in the FL.

A thread on here that mentions Lincoln on 2 posts or more=obsession on Vitals.Talk of crowds pre-2016 was 'Massive' Grimsby, now we have talk of Lincoln being No 1 club Lin Lincs on the back of ticket sales for one season, and threads comparing attendances to Gy and Scunny. Just very tiresome.
I know a couple of Lincoln fans, one's an idiot and not worth attempting to talk to, the other is a bit fairer and will consider other non-Lincoln points of view. However they are both very scornful of Vitals and avoid it as they think it's a poor representation of Lincoln fans.
It's all money-money on Vitals, from the 'Keep Clicking!' prompts to a warped version of how Fenty poured a Billion pounds into Town to get us back in the League. Not too accurate, given how far we fell from before Fenty was even on board.
Even our superb Operation Promotion was played down on there, apparently it was all share issues and just a few quid actually put in by fans...the truth is so incredibly mangled and bent to make pleasant, diluted reading for the fans on there it almost reads like a parody of a football forum. Weird, weird bunch.

You and Helgy are ok though (icon_confused)

I think there could have been more incentives such as buy and adult ticket for the Main and get a big discount off a kids ticket etc....but put yourself where the club is would you rather sell say 2300 at full price or 2800 at a discount and possibly gross less money when "if" we start to do well people will buy full price tickets on a weekly basis.

Long term I would rather the club take a hit and know they're doing something to introduce a new generation of fans.

If the club did an Adult Ticket with a relatively discounted season-ticket for kids I would buy one with the simple intention of taking along my nephew and/or niece to a selection of games to bring them into the GTFC fold.  If they like it, great then they're a step closer to being hooked.  If they don't like it, I've lost £30, £40  etc.  The club have gained a small portion of money they wouldn't have ever had and we all forget it about pretty quickly.

As a season ticket holder I'm far less likely to pop up to the ticket office midweek at any point during the year to buy them a ticket for a game they might not enjoy.  The point is when I'm going into the ticket office and shelling out £300+ on a season ticket, the discounted childs ticket feels like great value.  The as and when ticket doesn't quite feel anywhere near that level of value.

That's me for my nephew and niece.  How many parents of young children do we have who follow Town and would love the chance to bring their kids along to games.  Hell, how many parents would love to go to watch Town on a weekend but they can't because £7 on the gate (not everyone has the luxury of getting an early bird ticket) feels like crap value/they can't afford it?  How many of those parents are then staying at home themselves to look after said child/children.

It's simply pure sighted from the club, again.

Last season was drab and damp.  All the feel good factor from the previous summer was wiped out by a stop-start campaign, selling of the top scorer, a (in hindsight) poor appointment in Bignot and then ultimately the departure of fan favourites at the end.   Take away the hardcore who will go regardless and who is really going to be excited about the new season?    None of our signings are, as of yet, ones that will put bums on seats.  If you were an occasional fan, would you be tempted to buy a season ticket?

12-14 months ago the club missed a huge opportunity to tap into that feel good factor and they badly wasted it.  We failed to shift more than 3,000 season tickets after the most emotional and simply brilliant afternoon of football I've ever witnessed, in front of 12-13,000 people cheering Town on.  Despite that we managed to only shift a a couple of hundred extra season tickets from the previous year.  How the intercourse is that possible?

This year was crying out for something to entice people not only to the club but also to retain those exisiting season ticket holders.  Again the club failed.  No price rise but it'll go up next year.  Wow, what a promotion that is!

We can dress it up as many ways as we like, unfortunately it still points to the fact that GTFC are urine poor when it comes to shifting season tickets.  As mentioned earlier this area has thousands of shift workers, even if 1% of those benefit from a season ticket that caters to their work pattern it's worth it.  If 1% of the single parents in the area benefit from a season ticket that caters to their circumstances, it's worth it.  If 1% of the kids in this area who would never get taken to a game because it's too expensive end up going because Mum/Dad drags them along then it'll be worth it.

Would it be easy to introduce schemes like this?  Probably not.  But that's not an excuse to do absolutely nothing about it.  If it's not sheer laziness then what is it?

Good post, I sense it's a bit f a lack of ambition due to the cash flow being better than previous years.

I had no intention of renewing my season ticket because of certain factors including Pearson going to Wrexham and slowness of decent signings to whet my appetite, but I will be renewing it on Monday. I don't feel I can moan [which I very rarely do  :)] without seeing what I am moaning at. Phew-I feel a lot better already

When I said I wasn't renewing my season ticket because of Pearson leaving I got a load of Red x's-now when I say that I am getting season ticket despite Pearson leaving I get red x's--so FKIT I am not going to renew even if Pearson and Craig Clay come back-so that's 1 season ticket down due to the Fishy red x'ers

Good post. The season ticket debate has been going on for a few seasons now. In fact, its been going on for many years. As part of a business studies course in the early nineties, I sent the club a project I completed looking at ways to increase revenue, bums on seats and atmosphere. I never received an acknowledgment from the club for the project. But that’s not the point (as it was bit amateurish!). The point is the club have never appeared to take a proactive approach to increasing attendances. Maybe if people want to come and support Town they will just come regardless of what incentive scheme is in place and maybe we just have to accept Grimsby are a club destined to always achieve average gates in the region of 4 - 6000? The support is in the Town, you only have to look at the Wembley attendances. But it appears the floaters attend only the "big" matches, getting them to attend week in and week out and in all weathers and team performances is another matter.

Of course it is. Set a budget 20% below what you achieved last year, and in most businesses you'll get a severe talking to. Last year is only a one-off because of the incompetence in building on it. It was a steady season-on-season rise. It wasn't an increase of Lincoln proportions. Dress it up how you like but 2500 would be a failure.
