I hear Proudlock & Conlon are looking for new clubs...

Jeez.. why are people looking to bring back at a player who didn't really want to be here in the first place.

I haven't a scooby who is on our radar but I'm hoping for someone with a bit of pace.

We did fine without Amond. We did fine after Amond. Sam Jones is our main man next season.

Think sam jones is a great talent and think asante and yussuf could still potentially be good, if someone really good became available to us great but I wouldnt panic if we didnt sign any strikers

Christ I would!!!

Sam Jones is very good, Asante completely untried, Yussuf just doesn't look anywhere near from his brief cameo appearances and Vernon, whilst ok holding the ball up when it is played to feet is a liability in the air .

We must have at least one more striker, even if on a season long loan

Sam Jones is a very good player, but i would like to see him just behind the Striker in a more 'Attacking Midfield' role

Amond is a proven goal scorer for us and even scored 15 for a very poor relegated side. Quite simply we should be after him.

I get the impression that Slade is looking to build a pacier and more powerful team this season. Not sure Amond would fit into this. In fact, looking at the stats, I don't think we really want him.

We know he was a bit of a flat track bully in the Conference, scoring lots against weaker teams but doing little against the top clubs in the division. Looks as though he was much the same this season, albeit as part of a relegated team who were obviously crap. Just 3 goals scored against teams in the top half of the table which isn't a great record for a striker who played in pretty much every game all season.

I think we need better than that.

I think Alex revell would be absolutely ideal but not sure if we could tempt him. Slade had him at orient and also took him to Cardiff. Still a year left on his contract at Northampton.

Revell is a real presence up top, with a fairly decent record at a higher level (league one and championship mainly) and would make the ideal target man if we go with the pacey 3 attackers (Kelly or dembele on the left, jones or Osborne possibly in the middle and either tombola or browne in the right) just behind which I think how we may go.  With 2 of macca, rose, clem in front of the back 4.

We had a good season out of both Connell and Amond before they moved on - neither did much before or after, so who is the next one who Slade can bring in to be a one season wonder?

Bogle had a quiet start, then exploded into the goalscorer that brought in transfer funds - can we bring on another out of Asante and / or Akheem Rose ?

Will Yuseff have a fair run in the team this season - started very well, then disappeared ?

That said - will Slade want at least one proven striker that costs money to set us going?

decisions, decisions - who would want to be a manager ??

I am against people always wanting to go back to old players, but the above is incorrect

Connell went and played over 100 games in the football league after us in 3 years.

Amond has just scored 14 goals in a team that got relegated...

Im sure RS will adequately fill the other blank spaces he needs to but the a top striker must be signed even if we pay him a bit more than the rest of the squad get. The established ones do and other players don't female dog about it as proven stikers are a rarity and do comand more. This is the pivitol signing which could well decide if we are contenders for promotion or not.

Honestly cant see another striker coming in.
I think we are looking for left backs x 2 and a goalkeeper, cant see beyond that at present as the gaps are full. besides the loan market would fill any poor performers.

We have 4 players in Jones, asante yusef and vernon. are they all good enough? jones is a yes, vernon is ok for squad but the jury is out on asante anf yusef as they have not had enough realistic game time to judge.
Akeem Rose shouldnt be considered a senior and needs games in the reserves against men to see if there is a wiff of a player.

Loan market can fill any poor performers? The loan market closes at the end of August and opens start of January and closes end of January so we can't rely on loans to fill out poor performers.

I would like to see Yusef get a chance. On the odd occasion he played I thought he did well. He's powerful and fairly quick. With a run in side he could be the answer to the who replaces Bogle question.

Opposite for me - after a decent start, he left me feeling underwhelmed and I think we need better.

Thought he was poor against Exeter and ok against Luton, didn't see Carlisle and Hartlepool where he was very good by all accounts. I think there's a player in there, needs a run of games because he disappeared after the Crewe nightmare.

I'm with Cloudy. I will be shocked and massively disappointed if we don't bring in at least one striker. I can't honestly see Slade not bringing his own choices in. Going with 3 of someone else's picks just doesn't seem likely to me.

To make a successful team we need to bring the best out of our best players. From last season they are Jones and Osborne. There is a chance that Dembele and Kelly might be but we don't know. Therefore we need to play Jones and Osborne in their best positions and put players around them who will allow them to express themselves. Osborne needs grafters and combative players around him, we already have McAllister and I think Rose may be similar. For me we need a clever target man to compliment Jones, this might be Vernon of we give him a run of games or Slade might know someone better.

Certainly most important is to shore the defence up first with full backs and centre backs, and look for a loan striker at the end of the loan period if required.

I would like another keeper either 1st choice or back up,

We need a good strong striker to play along side with what we have got,

With the 2 wingers on the books now plus Tombola and Browne challenging them for a starting spot,,

That only leaves 14 other mid field players fighting each other for the central midfield places.  ;D

I think Vernon's a solid player but if we're going to challenge for promotion I reckon we need better, plus I think we need better than Yussuf as well. If he was available I'd have gone the whole hog to get Alex Revell but he's under contract sadly.

I don't think we need a genuine goal scorer. Jones scored 7 goals from mid February (or 16 games) so over the course of a season, having now got to grips with League 2 and hopefully a consistent partner and a cohesive plan behind him, that should return 20-25 goals over the course of a season which would be really good.

We need some pace up there for me, someone who can stretch defences and make them worried about where they are, someone to exploit tired legs and bring on to provide some relief if we're clinging on to a lead. I thought Jackson might be this player but he was too lightweight for the League 2. We need a better version of him IMO.

As Yussuf's under contract I can only really see one striker coming in TBH.

Not to mention Asante, who is no slouch.

It will be really interesting to see what sort of a formation we will be playing next season once Slade has all his signings at the club. Have to admit, I don't have a clue at the moment.

Not a striker but I notice keeper Bobby Olejnik has been released by Exeter. Former Peterborough keeper who has played at L1 and possibly Championship level (not sure and no time to research my dubious facts on that one).

Seen him play at posh a couple of times and seemed like a good keeper and I know a lot of posh fans were sad to seem him leave.

Might be a good option.

Agree with the comment re Asante. In his cameo appearances he looked very promising. He also had 8 games in L1 for the Shrews before moving to Solihull so clearly has something. Unfortunately injury prone but if his op worked well he could well be the new striker we need.

                                      JONES
     KELLY                                                    DEMBELE

                        ROSE           OSBOURNE

Leaving Clements, McAllister, Bolarinwa and Browne amongst the subs as options.

I think Matt Green (maybe a fit Asante) could fill that role, but who else available could do a job here.

I'm sure we'd all like to see young players come through, but if they are not good enough, they are not good enough. If we filled the team with young lads for the sake of it, then we'd be another Orient. Fans would soon start complaining that we were doing stuff on the cheap. How many local lads have made a career in the football league lately, whether on our books or someone else's?

Do we give these lads enough chances/game time to show that they are good enough though?

Last pre-season, in general, the players who received the most plaudits were the 3 youngsters, and then all were subsequently not given any game time when the season started and farmed out on loan  :(

I'm not sure what the answer is but we seem to spend a significant sum of money on bringing youth players through and rarely see any return on that investment.

Unless they are exceptional, then probably not. Managers are reluctant to risk youngsters with their job on the line, unless they are expressly encouraged to do so. Some clubs have to play the youth to survive financially and some of those will exceed expectations, but given the choice, most managers will sign tried and trusted pro's. Most youth players of most clubs get released and either drift out of the game, or drop down the leagues to prove themselves and work their way back up again- Dayle Southwell being a good example.

I don't expect to see many youngsters involved in the early part of the season but that may change as time goes on. Personally I have not seen enough of them but would assume the lads that went out on loan will be better for the experience. Saw Rose in a couple of things thought he looked ok but had a fair amount of growing and bulking up to do.

I think this is the problem most of the time, some fans want local lads in the team for the sake of having local lads in the time in the tiny hope that somebody from the area will become a footballing mega star that they can back...And then probably whine about when they sign for a premiership team. I don't get why people are so obsessed with the idea of local people being in the team and constantly bigging them up maybe it's just biases because they like the idea of rubbing shoulders with first team players who live down the street from them. Same reason people are obsessed with every one of the team living locally?

Not that at all for me. just think we do have the talent it has not been utilised thats all, Hurst was a play it safe man and Bignot - well he didnt know what he wanted to do.

When he is fit, I hope Asante gets on with Slade and turns out to be a good player for us. Yusuf?

Russell Slade had Harry Kane at Orient and gave him his 1st team debut, do you reckon we could get him?  :)
