Played for us for a while towards the end of his career. Couldn't hit a cows @rse with a banjo by then.

I remember Terry Curran playing for us in the mid 1980s  (Bobby Roberts season I think).

We all wanted him to do for us what he used to do against us... but it never happened.

Terry Curran was a good player. I remember him as a winger.  He scored against us for Wednesday when he ran at our defence, skipped a couple of tackles and hammered in the back of the net at the Osmond end.

He was one of those players that enjoyed winding the crowd up, so he was always the target of the opposition fans.

(through gritted teeth)  he was a good player, with a bit of a swagger about him.

He was an excellent winger for Wednesday and often gave us a torrid time, but when he signed for us he was past it and pretty much useless.

He must have played for every club in and around Yorkshire and surrounding areas at his peek he was a top player but only came here towards the end of his career.

The consummate journeyman.

Curran, Beagrie,  Brodie......players who have shined against us .....done nothing when signed for us, we have had them all on their way down...a bit like Proudlock and Peacock...players who were once dangerous but by the time we could attract them we were signing old glories not their current capability.

You cant include Brodie, as Paul Hurst had a hand in signing him and according to some one here PH only signed great players.

Went to play golf at Garforth near Leeds in the mid nineties and stopped at a cafe for breakfast and bloke serving looked familiar. Was playing golf with ex Scunny & Lincoln striker Derek Bell, and he knew the guy who yes was Terry Curran who I believe was owner as well as Chef!!

Good player & good breakfast!!!!

I don't remember Jackie Charlton playing at BP. Town fans singled Curran out in a period when Wednesday were probably more hated than Hull and definitely more than Scunny.

I remember one midweek game when I was about 15 and we beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 (I think) in front of a massive crowd (Tony Ford scored at least one) I was behind the fences in the pontoon and someone threw a coin at Curran and he picked it up and threw it back in annoyance, only two be met by hundreds more bouncing off the mesh and going all over  :)

For younger listeners I'm not condoning this, but the atmos was electric that night, one of the best ever at BP

See Jack Charlton also gets mentioned as he was Sheff Wed manager at the time Curran played. Guy in our village, Tony Simmons, ex Rotherham, QPR & Chimps was telling me how Charlton made him sub at BP on boxing day in early eighties when he was 17 and never played for the first time.

Tony is a ginger & says he went for a little run to get earm to get that normal friendly welcome that Yorkies used to receive in that era. He says add the fact I was ginger, white as a ghost & skinny and you can imagine it was not the start to professional football he was dreaming of.

Not looked at database for result but memory suggests a 1-0 win wwith either Waters or Wilko scoring the goal but I seem to recall goal was at Osmond end following a great run from midfield by Waters but cannot remember if he played 1-2 with Wilko to score himself or pulled it back for Wilko. Sure Les and others will correct me if wrong.

Yeah, I remember Terry Curran playing for Town at the end of his career, always rated him until he played for us.

Some success stories as well though, Trevor Whymark, Garry Birtles, Chris Nicholl and even Ivano Bonetti spring to mind.

Definitely TC, during the pre match warm up and one of the other players went up and looked down the back of his shorts and shook his head to the Pontoon.

Yeah, i remember that now, but i also remember it being sung about Jackie Charlton, either at the same game or another fixture against them. I've also got a memory of Terry Curran scoring an header against us at BP?

Don't believe he had a full contract with Town. Concern about his age etc' he was on a more or less "pay as you play" contract-self employed for want of another description.  If he had been a cowboy he would have been known as  " A gun for hire "

I saw him at the first town match I ever went too, I was in the upper Findus and he had a great game. He didn't have any pace but kept whipping in some great long balls and obviously looked to have some quality, I think we won by 3 or 4 that day but couldn't remember who it was against.

Yeah i remember him, but like Beagrie whilst he had plenty of skill, his legs had gone by the time he arrived here....i always remember Beagrie when playing for us, trying to be clever by dribbling his way out of trouble in his our penalty area, and giving away a penalty, can't remember who it was against?

You are right Ron -it was in 1984 when he played for Everton  PS  if you are on medication try to give it up-my medication was making me do funny things until I gave it up--look at me now

He "starred" in my text adventure game I wrote for the ZX Spectrum. The game was titled, "Quest For The Golden Cod Fillets" and featured local landmarks. The idea was to collect 6 golden cod fillets, find the key to the dock tower and climb to the summit of the dock tower to free a princess. (I think! That long ago!)
Anyway, I digress. One of the  gcf's was secreted in the ball that Terry Curran skied over the bar repeatedly (wishful thinking when he played for Wednesday against us ) into the Pontoon!!!!
P.S. I fixed the score in the game so that Town won every time!  :)

Cod! Why not haddock?

Because ,"Quest For The Golden Haddock Fillets" didn't quite sound right to me and that title didn't fit well on the cassette sleeve that I made on my tiny little Sinclair thermal printer, that's why!!! Lololol ;)

I wasted 2 years of my life trying to play that game

Remember a match at BP and TC getting no joy against Kev Moore at left-back - and after about 25 minutes made a
ceremony of moving to the other wing....where the first pass he received was a 50-50 challenge with John Stone at right-back.
TC came off far the worse, and disappeared for the rest of the game.

(tbf he generally caused us problems, but not on this particular day.  What wouldn't we give for that full-back pairing now? )

That`s how I remember him also.Whenever his name appeared on a teamsheet you always thought of him being a threat.I was over the moon when Town got him but he played in a  dreadful side and TC being pretty much a flair player he wasn`t right for us at that time. The highlight of his Town career and probably the best home game that Season was a 0-0 draw with Notts County.TC got the ball went on a mazy run seemingly beating half the County side sat the keeper down and with a baying Pontoon and an open goal begging hit the bloody crossbar.Same game Steve Sherwood made the best penalty save I have ever witnessed amazing I can remember snippets from a game in 87/88 but not what I did half hour ago?
