Maybe not a name that is known much outside of rock circles, but i was a huge fan of his and thought he had one of the best voices in rock music ever. He was also an extremely talented songwriter and an all round nice bloke, so i was shocked to learn that he is dead at 52, possibly from suicide after playing a gig last night with his reformed band Soundgarden, who he first shot to fame with.

Here's one of my favourites of his performed acoustically. RIP Chris.

Really sad, incredibly talented and like you said Ginny, he had a great voice. Soundgarden were awesome and whilst I wasn't a huge fan of AudioSlave, Cochise is one of my favourite songs.  No age to go. RIP Chris.

Just been confirmed that he hung himself. He had everything you could wish for; talent, wealth, fame, good looks, the lot, but it seems the one thing he didn't have was happiness. Depression strikes at everyone, whoever they may be. What a shame.

Gutted about this. Superuknown was one of the key albums in my teenage years and as has been previously said, his voice was outstanding, undoubtedly one of the great rock singers. Such a sad and tragic end.

Not too familiar with Chris's music but listening to that clip he had a fantastic voice, such a shame.

You may know him better from this track. About as close as he got to the mainstream and up there with the best Bond themes.
