Between the management and the board to agree future plan regarding players and other staff for next season is taking place today. Existing players futures will be decided and possible targets agreed. We are in your hands. Any flies on the wall we might know?

I would hope not.
If Town get this right. RS will inform the playing staff tomorrow.
Then hopefully the club will let us know who is definitely staying, who is going and who is in negotiations.

I m still fascinated by RS's comments regarding the senior players, Davies, Collins, Pearson, and Disley... He sounded on the interview with JT as if none would be staying... Be a bit harsh on Pearson I think...

I hope the board have no input in respect of playing targets tbh. Agree the budget, even agree a ceiling for any individual but the choice has to be that of the footballing management alone imo

Dont recall him mentioning names when he referred to "senior" players but it was associated with the Disley question that was put before it.
RS has a model sized squad, formation and style in his head...as for the first time in what seems like years we have players tied in for next season already, so it would be reasonable to assume that RS will have to let go of as many as he isnt sure about, of the out of contract players, to be able to bring in his own choices for his vision.   I personally think he was referring to Disley, Davies and Gowling when he referred to senior players potentially leaving, Collins potentially but i would hope not.
He may have some wriggle room with the likes of Summerfield and Rhys Browne who may ask to leave, Rhys Browne as much as i would have liked to see him in a Town shirt i just dont think his head or heart will be here so no point in trying to force him.

All will become clear Tuesday when players start tweeting or Weds when the club release the list.

I do however think that the budget he will be given wont be a big one due to the board getting burnt a bit by MB in January, i imagine the first team squad to be down to around 21/22 with a couple of youths in tow and then some loan top ups.

Did MB really spend THAT much in January though? Think people have been getting a bit carried away with this notion. We sold Omar for a lot of money.

We paid fees for a few players and you have to consider the greatly increased wage bill since then as well. I'd imagine a hefty chunk of the Bogle money is long gone.

I understand ( but I won't reveal the source for obvious reasons ) that RS has been promised a very large one-off budget to make a determined promotion push next season.

I heard that on Sat too. Need to be in league 1 to coincide with the new stadium being built.

How much of that will go on paying off players under contract??

That's up to RS to decide. He is given his budget and how he spends it is up to him but obviously he has to deliver the goods.

The board have no input to who stays or goes. They decide the budget Slade is responsible for the players that he thinks we need, and it's up to him how the budget is spent to get them.

That is how is should be. Leave the manager to manage team affairs. There's a lot of big clubs that tell their manager who to sign and who to sell. They are all the ones that struggle,  like Newcastle for instance.

I still think there will be a decent budget to work to otherwise despite being out of work RS would have waited for another club to come in for him, especially after having his fingers burnt at Charlton and Coventry.

I think the only 3 pros out of deals who will be offered terms are Shaun, Danny Andrew and Danny Collins all of whom will "consider their options" Andrew will go, Shaun will sign and Collins? Well I'm 50/50. So that's goodbye to Dis, Josh and Gunning amongst a few others.

Similar to what Moosey said RS will already know who he wants to keep and let go and who he thinks he can get a tune out of from who's left.

Could be a very interesting few weeks as it's been a long time since we have had an experienced FL manager (and assistant) with what you would expect is a large network of former clubs, scouts, agents and players. RS has a good reputation in the game and that could work to our advantage.

If he has a special budget for one season he will be under pressure to deliver as if we going to 'overspend' it will be on the basis of we will have a better team capable of challenging for the playoffs over the season with increased attendances - unless we still have a chunk of Omars money to burn.

Looking at the clip on your signature maybe we have missed an opportunity for a wide left prospect all season ;)

I think we may already have pushed the boat out a bit to get RS and PW here in the first place. When asked about RS contract at the press conference, JF said that it will remain private and he didn't do that with the previous 2 managers, both being on rolling 6 month deals.

I think there will be a big cull tomorrow and we could end up with 1 or even 0 of the team that got us out of non league less than a year ago. There is no standing still in football but my hunch is that we will go for quality over quantity and we have had a good average gate this season, plus we sold Bogle, so maybe a bit better budget than last year? We also need the types of signings that will get season tickets shifting.

Fee's paid for Osbourne and Jones for certain , Dyson, Clements, Yussuf, Asante, Gunning  all brought in during MB's time as well with some of them possibly having a fee attached also.
MB was very busy in his short spell which ultimately led to the board axing him as he didnt seem in control of the staff budget in proportion to on field improvement.
I am sure they will be slightly more reserved when it comes to RS's spending power and outline squad size.

I don;'t think Ashley has messed with Rafa - or likely too. Rafa was quoted as saying he's only ever met Ashley once - although they speak on the phone a lot.

If Ashley wants Toon in the EPL top 8, he needs Benitez to deliver that.

Same at BP, I think the club needs Slade's experience more than he needs Town, so the sensible thing would be to give him a budget, and let him get on with it.

It just seems 'too soon' to be saying goodbye to Dis or Pearson, given how in the last few games they have both been on the scoresheet.

Would love for them to have another season with the club.

I was told today, whilst golfing in Hull, that Pearson was being released & guy who told me said that was from a good source but refused to say who source was.

I certainly hope its incorrect as he is certainly worth a place in any League @ squad IMO

The frustrating thing is that for most of the season we said we were lacking a left winger while all along he was in the team playing centre back.

Unless he thinks he can do better than Pearson and that would take some doing. If Marcus wasting the Omar money on Maxwell, Yussuf, Gunning and even Clements is no better than Summerfield or Berrett then it's a poor old do we can't retain Collins etc.

If they are not re-signed, i doubt it would be because we have players we are stuck with; more that he thinks he can do better. If he really wants them to stay, he will find a way, unless the players themselves want to move on.

What we have to ask ourselves is not if the players are good enough for League 2, but if they are good enough to get us into League 1 and be good enough to cut it in there as well?

I get it now mate, I think both will get offered terms  but I think like Andrew they will also have options elsewhere. As a great club man I would be gutted to see Shaun go, Andrew well it's inevitable I reckon Collins in reality only has one season left so would it be a complete disaster if we lost all 3?

Why? It would be Russell Slade's decision.

I think it will be a tough day for some lads to be honest, I would imagine that you possibly sense  what's coming if the manager has been with you for a bit but I think it must be more uncertain as the manager in this case has only been around for under a month.

I wonder how long it will be before we see the new faces coming in, not long from what RS said on the wireless on Saturday after the game.

Yesterday a bloke I know who works in Cardiff who to be honest is more of an egg chaser told me we had agreed a deal with Peter Whittingham as he's been released by Cardiff, I thought he'd retired to be honest, seems a bit old to me.

The missus' family are very in the know at Cardiff and they are certain he has been offered a deal on reduced terms reflecting his age and the game time he will be getting. I've seen him play a fair few times this season and is still a quality player though.

I think L1 former first teamers are the best we could hope for to be honest and maybe some kids that Wilko has seen from the higher levels.

I have no idea the type of targets RS is after with so many players released.

The players that may get released.....well from my gut ferling is

Boyce
Gowling
Summerfield
Chambers
Berrett
Vernon
Davies
D Jones

With
Dizza , Collins and Pearson offered 1 year deals
Andrew offered 2 year deal.

That leaves us with

Mckeown
Mills
Pearson
Collins
Andrew
McAllister
Dizza
Osbourne
Jones
Browne
Bolarinwa
Asante

Can be made available for transfer though which tells player he is not in plans for next season and hopefully allows both parties to get other deals sorted.

Still means a pay off in 95% of instances and until such time as they have gone will  be included in the budget. Need to get those out the door before they can be replaced unlike in January!

Re players getting paid off it may be that similar to when a manager gets binned we may just pay a salary until a player gets another club.I actually think you will see a few put on the transfer list and eventually loaned out if they can't get a move.

All the talk about certain players must get a new deal is because they are favourites for some or most of the fans,

BUT

Slade knows a vast amount of better players,

Are you saying you would rather say give Pearson a new contract or sign a much better player that would help us get promoted,

I like Pearson but if Slade gets a better player in I would understand his thinking,

Pearson would soon fix himself up with a new club because he is a good player.
