Been released by Norwich.... sign him up  :)

Being discussed on the 'realistic signings' thread, although it hardly counts as such IMO.

He'll get signed by a Championship club I reckon.
Posted by: LongEatonMariner, May 2, 2017, 9:50pm; Reply: 3
He must have played 30 plus games every season for them in the Championship and Prem so he's hardly likely to come to us, maybe a relegated Prem club or a safe championship club.

Might as well sign Paul Nuttall.

I wouldn't be surprised if Doncaster try and go in for him, played under Darren Ferguson at Peterborough.

MAybe he can join with Ruddy as well😀

Brendan Rodgers apparently likes bennett.

He's played about 70- times in 5 years. Not exactly regular. A good League 1 side is not out of the question.

He has never been universally popular with or highly rated  by supporters at Norwich. The best that can be said is that the other central defenders have been just as bad, hence his 37 games this season. No tears have been shed about his release.

They probably don't like him cos he's only got 5 fingers on each hand :)   Plus I'm sure his Ipswich connections wouldn't help.

Have seen him a few times this year and thought he was not Championship standard. He will still get a contract at that level, possibly a lower half Championship team.

wasnt ready for the premiership in reality and probably never will be, somewhere between League 1 and Championship i would say is his competetive regular level.

:)

Not really the Ipswich thing. I think he is simply not good enough. From memory he didn't play much in the PL and has been average this season. They are getting a new management team and trying to cut the wage bill as well.

Personally I always regarded him as a good attitude, wholehearted player in the Pearson mould. Good in the air, decent tackler but would struggle to pass water and that's what has kept him out of the top rank.

Not him. I heard he had a chance at Stoke. Had an open goal and missed by a mile.

Not sure where he'll end up but it won't be with us!

Possibly Sheff UTD, big budget and will look to build a good championship squad

I always thought that he never marked anybody, just ran around looking for the ball.

It said a lot about the standard of our squad when, as an 18-year old, he stood out as one of our best players.

He played a lot of games for us before moving to Peterborough, and he was a regular there. Norwich is the first club he's been at where his name isn't on the team sheet week in, week out.

If I'm totally honest, I don't think he's the best defender in the world. He was part of a leaky defence while with us, and although Peterborough were in a higher division they were known for having a leaky defence too. They just knew how to outscore the opposition.

Bennett has never really been part of a side that's been mean in defence. I think he's a useful player to have at Championship level as he has the ability to compete at that level, but I reckon he'd stand out more if he played regularly as a League 1 defender.

On highlights of games past few years I've seen a poster above has summed up well. He is never tight to anyone, positionally at fault - possibly a case of losing his motivation? Maybe a new club will serve him well. Obviously talented,  will certainly get offers.

Never saw the big deal in him, although I was obviously wrong as he's somehow played top flight football, albeit as probably the easiest defender the likes of Suarez, Tevez and Aguero have ever came up against

He was (and is) a good player, but I think the Premiership was probably a step up too far. Surprised he hasn't done better at Championship level, though.

I actually saw a few games on tv where he had a couple of decent games in the prem, scored a couple of times too. Never going to be your best when your in and out and managers keep changing. I think he needs to choose his next move wisely but think the right team and manager, he could be a solid championship defender

He has either been in the team or on the bench since he joined Norwich,

Very seldom has he been left out the squad,

I too think he will get fixed up with either a championship side or a L1 team,

Pity because I would love to have him back with us.

Wasn't it Neil Woods that signed him from Ipswich originally?

Yes when he was youth team manager,

Newell made him captain at the tender age of 19.

It was and he's doing a good job with the Youth team now as well. They were bottom of the league when Woodsie came in and had only won one game. They have won seven since and finished 11th.

Only Town fans could think that the only player in recent times who has left us to go on and play in the top flight, isn't actually that good.  ;D

He also played for the England set up while with us, but what do Prem and England managers know eh?  ;)

I remember every time he tried to pass the ball he shanked it into the Findus, so I dont agree with the Premier League and England managers, no. ;D

flipping hell. All these people who knew all along that Ryan Bennett was crap. We must be a hotbed of footballing genius.

Just none of them must have been registered on the Fishy when he played for us cos I can't remember a bad word being said about him.

I heard he really didn't like Ferguson when he played there. Also, certainly not saying he's coming back but a bit like Ben Davies, his wife is a Grimsby girl and misses the area. Perhaps Scunts bound?

Well we do have a load of fans who love a good moan about anything. He was a young talent when he was with us and was clearly going on to better things as we were hitting a downward spiral, you could feel the difference in defence when he went at a time when we seemed to struggle to get good defenders.

We all have degrees in hindsight but to be fair Bennett's performances since leaving us haven't been top notch standard. He didn't tear up trees in the PL and this season he has had quite a lot of criticism.

Just one for instance, there's a bit here from the Norwich Evening News following the Leeds comeback from 3 - 0 down.

Chris Wood was slipping between a ball-watching Ryan Bennett and a dozing Dijks to get Leeds back into a game they should really have been out of.

Inevitably the defensive unit will be the main focus of the summer rebuilding exercise, as Tuesday’s list of released players indicated, There have been too many free headers on offer this season

He played top flight footy cos he's a really talented lad the problem is he's never reached his potential in my eyes. Like in work sometimes your boss is a big influence on your career and how it goes, as for coming here the 15 k a week wages he's got used to probably say no chance of that.

True beauty is within though.

Mind governs everything and in sport a healthy mindset will go a long way and is more important than technical ability.Look at the players that have thrown it all away and not maintained the level  eg George Best .On another level with us the likes of Sweeney and Conlon eg lazy and liked the beer to much
