Is our non chairman , shame he couldn't divulge why Marcus was sacked and tell us what deal Slade's got ?? Both apparently not important ??

I can see why he doesn't want to go into detail on the Bignot departure but surely we could be told how long Slade's contract is for? Are GTFC not revealing this? Here next year? 6 months rolling?

Well I wonder what colour he will be on Friday in front of Blundell Park`s lowest gate of the Season nearly everyone is ready for the beach on and off the park. :-/

Like every departure no detail given but fully agree now we're not allowed to know how long he's here for (thumbdown) surely the fans should expect that

I think you may be surprised about that one, if Wilco can`t improve our strikers then I don`t know who can, the contacts Slade and Wilco have in the game makes Bignot`s appointment in all good faith seem amature even though we felt good about it at the time,

A very flat mood at the press conference.
Everyone waiting for that one question, Nigel got it in and that was that
No-one looked that happy did they?

Yeah agree but now i fully expect us to challenge the Cowley brothers down the rd , Slade should have enough about him for us to challenge top end

It's all very GTFC isn't it? All very Tory family values type stuff, safe and boring and uninspiring with no questions asked or answered. Doesn't get the juices flowing one iota. The only ray of light for me is the arrival of Wilko. Let's hope he is the man to ascend to the throne and take us forward some day.

Wish Fenty would've let Slade answer the questions directed at him instead of jumping in to his defence. Few words go a long way and Slade needs to reconnect with the fans so could've done with hearing more from him on the whole Cardiff thing.

Very very scripted almost .. unfinished business, that's football, left on good terms implied, double handshake, biting at awkward question but having said that no chance of relegation with Slade in charge

John fenty will never be popular at this club because he barely ever has it in him to make the right decision,im sorry marcus bignot wasn't given chance to continue his plan for the club but think osborne and jones will be two big players in this league from next season.
whether i agree with this management is irrelevant and what counts is we back and support them like we would any other,no reason why success won't be achieved both with new players and some of bignots players.

And no promise of promotion either with his record. The club said in the statement on Monday about building on the success of our return to the EFL, then appoint a manger who has won nothing in 20 years.

Agreed and i will back the manager at the ground. As a fan, it's all you can do and hope the board have got it right for once.

Why have you got such a downer on Slade and Wilkinson? Bignot was flailing around - the players knew it, the fans knew it and the board knew it. I think Bignot himself probably knows it! We took decisive action to get an experienced football league manager who recently finished 8th in the Championship and got a small team like Yeovil playing some great attacking football into the league 1 play offs. In addition we have got a club legend back in harness; what is there not to like?

If things dont go well then of course I will moan as much as the next fan but it all seems positive to me. There are loads of managers I would have preferred in a perfect world, of course there are, but realistically I think we have done pretty well.

Totally agree with everything you say Lew but I can`t help not being enthusiastic about Slade due to his previous spell. I wont welcome him with Open arms but I do think he is a massive improvement on Bignot and I expect us to be right up the top under RS because we have a decent squad and RS knows how to play and work systems. All that said it isn`t an appointment to get the majority of fans here excited and in fact it will put quite a few off but he is here now so we have to hope for the best.Good luck Slade and Wilko UTM

You can not please all the fans whoever you appoint,

Lets give Slade a chance to prove he is the man to take us up,

I did like Marcus but he started to put doubts in my mind towards the end,

I feel we have a much stronger management team in place now,

Really pleased Paul is back with us.

Fair enough and lets hope everything goes well. I wouldn't take the passionate views on here (for and against) to be a barometer of the wider fan base though. I don't know for sure but I bet most Town fans who go to games will give them both every chance.

What is the target-50 points or play off spot? Delete as appropriate next season. That press conference answered no questions at all and a lot of stuff glossed over in the process.

Anyone get the feeling RS was lined up before Marcus was actually dismissed?

I'd put your mortagage on it ;D
Fenty said he got the jitters in january - hadn't realised just how friendly he was with slade (went to his wedding for example) so when Slade tells him in January he's been sacked by Cov, i'll bet Fenty's little brain went into overdrive! (including shiite, this isn't going to go down well with the fans, hmmmm i need a town legend to come in as his assistant to sugar the pill).week or so later John gets the phone call from PW to say he's been sacked at N'ton and BINGO! problem is solved. Just put wilko and slade together, tell them this is how its going to be and sort out the details and let bignot go at the earliest opportunity
would love to know how many gtfc games wilko or slade have seen in the last 3 months

I am sure he was lined up prior to the sacking and amen for that. It has been obvious for weeks it was going pear shaped and it would have been criminal not to be prepared for the inevitable.

I have been very critical in the past when we have made a sacking then "invited applications" which didn't fill me with any confidence. Much better in my eyes to identify the people you want in advance. Obviously your aim has to be realistic, and achievable but I think Fenty has done the right thing.

If you listen to the Slade / Matt Dean interview which was linked somewhere earlier, Matt asks Slade when he was contacted.

There's a lot of 'erm' 'erm' before Slade says "Tuesday", erm "Tuesday after Marcus was sacked" ... That would have been yesterday then Russ ...

Exactly what i thought and the first ( i'm reluctant to say lie) misdirection? Slades return was being talked about on Friday in the pubs of Blackpool. No way was all this sorted yesterday, while he was up a mountain.

You only have to look at the timing. An away win at Blackpool isn't the last straw! The game before on the other hand.....

Of course he was lined up before!  When MD asked Slade when he got the call her said "errr..... well.... ummm... I think it was Tuesday, yeah Tuesday after Marcus went on Monday". You'd say "I got the call yesterday", you wouldn't need to think about it.

Personally I don't care, I think he'll do a cracking job and to have Wilkie in as well (who'd been linked with the managers' job previously in his own right) is a massive plus. We weren't going anywhere other than down the table under Bingo Bignot.

He did well to get a call up a mountain in Wales and then meet JF that evening for fish & chips as he mentioned in the press conference. I think RS tried to cover JFs backside on that one...........Well I suppose its a team game.

You are absolutely right and I don't know why we persist with those stage managed stiff as a board press conferences. None of the answers given are in depth enough or from the heart and it is only as events unfold we hear the full story. They looked like a group of rabbits caught in headlights which is a shame because I think this is an important day for the club.

I have met Russell Slade and he is one of the most personable and charming people I have spoken to, but the non chairman does not have the natural charm in front of camera to be the main man in such a situation. I am sure he has many qualities but being media savvy is not one of them.

I bet the individual interviews with Fenty Slade and Wilkie will be much more revealing in the Tellywag tomorrow, and we will learn much more about their hopes for the future, or at least I hope so.

I found the interviews were far more insightful on Sports Talk tonight.

I don't believe for one minute that Fenty only contacted Slade for the first time yesterday!

But aside from that, Fenty gave a bit more clarity around why the board sacked Bignot (their concerns grew at the end of January when we had a squad of 31 players and were unable to offload more on loan).

Immediately I can relate to that. I can understand how having such a big squad of players was going to create cliques and divide the dressing room, and that it would take a strong manager to keep them all happy.

Obviously the standard of football on show had been pretty dreadful too, with absolutely no one able to say what formations we were playing and what our approach or philosophy was.

Slade still sounded a bit hesitant though. I think he knows he'll need to work hard to both turn things around and win over a section of fans who will be naturally sceptical about his reappointment.

I thought JF was a honest as he could  be on RH, its difficult because there could be some legal restraints and its a thin line before you look like you are slinging mud or pointing the finger. From what I have seen and heard from Slade today I think he was playing it a bit humble and understands he possibly needs to do some work and win some games to get some credit in his good will account with the supporters.

As well as the size of the squad I think for me the Macca thing on RH after the Stevenage game (Jan 28th) was a real concern as that sent out a message that the unity on the squad was disappearing fast!

Some people have posted today that the board should have stepped in here and stopped MB doing this there etc.. etc... but professional football managers are employed to manage and once directors start dabbling it can get very messy.

I can't believe Bignot had the authority to sign more players than the budget could support. I'd be surprised if any contract could be signed by him without reference to the CEO and at least one other director.

I think Fenty said Bignot had convinced the board that a lot of the players would go out on loan to reduce the load. I think he said he didn't believe it but went along with it anyway!

Not sure if you have listened to the RH bit but JF said that MB told him he could get the surplus out on loan or something similar. I think it's a very difficult thing to balance as I imagine you need to sign your target before you loan out someone else as if the signing falls through you could be left short of cover.
