What did Bignot have to say for himself this evening?

Very poor from both sides
Good goal from Asante.
Good free kick from the..  Macca didn't stand a chance.
Far too pedestrian

.. to parents in Manchester.

So frustrating to let another direct free kick in especially last minute

Didn't really deserve to win as they hit the post twice.

Was most impressed with Boyce who was solid at the back and a well taken goal by Asante,

Their goal, didn't seem a free kick to me.

Lovely hot day... friendly club... frustrated.

Very end of season feel to proceedings. Decent from Andrew, Mills and Boyce. Far too laboured moving the ball forward. Osbourne doesn't look fit. Clement not really involved enough. Vose had a couple of good spells but there were far too many occasions where he looked up and no-one showed.
Good from Asante who was a tad unlucky not to get a second.
Nasty looking accident to Vernon who appeared to hit a metal gate head on.
Probably was a free kick for the equaliser but the ball travelled a very long way before the ref brought it back. Jury appears to be out on whether Macca could've done better but a ball placed close to the top corner would've beaten far better keepers than him.

It was a stunning equaliser to be fair, and that's his fifth goal direct from free kicks in the last ten games, which matches Accrington's current unbeaten run.

We lack thought, movement and imagination. We gave the ball away cheaply far too many times, and won very few second balls. On the plus side Asante looked a real handful when he came on and should be starting games now until the end of the season - there's a lot more goals from him, big, strong and awkward. We had nothing up front until he came on. Think I'm right in saying our goal was our first shot on target?

Pre match swally in The Crown excellent as usual.

Some loony on the train platform after the game started jibbering (off his box on something) and verbally abusing folk on the other platform.   Brightened up the day a wee bit, especially when some of the Town fans on there started singing "Grey haired old b*st*rd, you're just a grey haired old b*st*rd" Had to check twice to make sure it wasn't me they were on about!

Totally agree Hagrid. No attempt to put a head or face in there. Only just cleared one of our men whose feet were rooted to the floor..

Unstoppable for our keeper, not so for the wall.

A slight glance on it and we win the game. Fine margins and all that..

Having said that it was an excellent strike.

Ridiculous decision for a free kick in my eyes, completely ruined it for me.

It was the most blatant foul in living memory. I have to say it took the ref ages to give it though.

Lovely day in the sun and at times we played some nice stuff but we lack pace.  Thought the back four looked fairly comfortable but when the ball goes in to midfield there's not enough movement.  Vose several times in the first half was looking for someone to make a diagonal run.  Overall a better match than last Saturday and at 1-1, both teams had chances to win it.  Asante looked a threat and maybe should have scored in injury time, but for a decent save from their keeper.
Gunning and Boyce played well as a centre back pairing and our goal was well worked.  The play seemed to go on for quite a while before the ref gave the free kick which lead to their goal and he gave us very little all game.  Great free kick though but agree that the wall didnt seem to jump.
Was far from bad and with a couple of players with real pace for next season there's still a good chance to improve.

Hats off to accrington for being a very friendly club.

Ridiculous decision for the free kick then.

Couldn't go today as it was a choice between today & Blackpool so well done to those that did. From some comments on here, JT and Jevvo on RH sounds like Vose's football brain is quicker than our movement. The movement is a massive issue for me and one that MB needs to solve pre season.

Glad that MB gave Andy Boyce a start as after weeks as a sub, it would have been easy to have played Shaun & Gunning, sounds like Boyce had a decent game which may frustrate some who say he's not good enough.

Nothing to play for now so I personally would like to see some of the fringe players getting some game time and a rest for Osborne who from what todays commentary sounds like and what I have seen s struggling a bit with his shin splints.

Bigger test next week I reckon, one that will see how many big game players we actually have.

UTM!!

The wall do or do not decide to jump when a free kick is taken,

That is decided on the training pitch,

Maybe the wall should be given a bit of freedom,

If you can reach it , HEAD IT !!!!!

Highlights

I hope that free kick is on constant loop at Cheapside this week...

1. Mckeown is all over the place....sets up....then starts edging further across his goal nearer to the post he is already covering, giving the taker so much free goal to aim at.
2. Chris Clement breaks off the wall and turns away from the ball, it looks from that angle as if he had stood his ground he could easily have blocked it.
3. Vose on the opposite end of the wall is almost hiding
4. There are 3 of their players arriving in the 6 yd box for any scraps compared to 1 of ours

Yes it was a nice strike but the above 4 things at just 1 free kick of the type we have regularly been conceding from all season just p1sses me off.

Asante's goal was reminiscent of one Bogle scored early on last season in front of the Osmond, nice finish through the blockers legs blind siding the keeper.

Having just watched the very brief highlights, there's no way any blame could be given to macca . No keeper in the world would've saved that .

I've just seen the free kick for the first time - difficult to tell whether the wall would've deflected the shot had it jumped (but I agree that all of them should've at least made the effort to jump).

Macca is covering the other side of the goal, so the wall is there to try and protect the other side. Can't attach too much blame to him, although I'm sure he'll be reliving that goal like us and wondering what (if anything) he could've done differently.

Overall we were okay. A point was a fair result.  Defensively i thought we were good _ Gunning in particular was very good and MOM. In midfield we were a mess. Good players a bit lost. Vose has bags of ability but went missing in the second half. Upfront Asante looked bright when he came in hope he plays more games.

I have mixed feelings about the game , i junk our players have more technical ability but they were more organised

That must be the umpteenth goal we have conceded from  a free kick this season it is a bad habit that needs addressing.

Also that late on or any time what is the point of setting a wall if they don't at least jump they risk taking one in the face or the crutch for the team but it could be a match winning block.

They should be willing to do that at 1-0 up with 4 minutes left.

Have to admit that I thought the ref had just stopped play with their man staying on the floor, I was cheesed off that he had stopped our break down the left then I realised he'd given a free kick to them. Most annoying thing is that their striker pushed 2 defenders in the air when going for the first ball forward but that was the pattern of play for most of the game, get away with a blatant foul and then look for a dive, with the ref willing to oblige more often than not. Think they'll be looking at getting Tom Daly in next season!

Having watched the highlights, i think it was a very fine free kick and no keeper would have saved it. Maybe the wall could have jumped and maybe it would have made a difference but i'm not too sure. You could argue that about any direct free kick that goes in and yet they are still scored on a regular basis.

However, i just don't get why Macca goes so far over to one side of his goal and was practically by his left hand post on that particular one. He invites the shot into the unguarded part of his goal and even if it had been well inside the right hand post, he wouldn't have got to it. Is this something that is coached or is it his decision because it's something that has been a feature of his game for a long time and something that gets mentioned over and over again? I don't think i've ever seen a Town goalie get beaten by so many long range shots as he does and not just free kicks either.

Comment from a Stanley fan..

Thought Grimsby were one of the better sides to come to our place this season - Coleman said this in his interview too.

Is it all doom and gloom?

No it's not. Coleman mentions us looking strong and organised and that's with a completely different pair of centre backs. We still lack goals - of course we do, we had to replace our leading scorer at very short notice. I hope (and expect) us to spend on a new strike force in the summer. Our midfield certainly looks better even without natural width, we've just got to get a few off the payroll and replace them with the missing bits of the jigsaw.

I know he has not had a lot of game time OC  but do you think Asante could step up next season. ?

I've not seen enough of him Pete - he could well be another Omar who learns from more experienced players like Scott Vernon who may not have the same physical attributes ie pace!

I have only seen a few highlights of him but from that he gives me the impression he could well be another Omar,

Lets hope so anyway mate.

From what I've seen he looks like his first touch is better and he's possibly more comfortable on the ball than Omar when he first arrived but we need to see more of him to understand whether or not he's as a finisher. Really hope he get a run till the end of the season.

Well I think as Barralad mentioned, very end of season dead rubber feel to the game, I think both teams tried to pass it out of defence which was good, but our passing sometimes played us into trouble, need to be a lot more comfortable at passing and receiving the ball if we want to play it out from the back, Clements always dropped deep which I liked as it gave the defence an option but at times I thought he was too slow at getting the ball forward, Vose looked mentally quicker than everyone else, although he did fade badly, Vernon incident looked nasty, he walked past me and looked very very dazed with blood pouring, Osborne didn't look fit and it can't be helpful playing him whilst he has shin splits?

I think we need to look forward to next season, those players who are in his plans for next season get all the game time, and those who aren't don't, play offs I think we can all agree are gone so need to treat these remaining games as pre season and give the players more game time together so we can try and start next season really strongly

After watching the game , I'm starting to see what MB trying to do ,Clements splitting the defence to make it a three and then getting the rb & lb to make a five midfield with jones dropping in  regarding vose , we need to keep him in the game because he is definelty the brightest player we have and with games he will link the play MB trying to play
