Just wondered if anybody travels regularly between Grimsby and Leeds (Headingley).

I'm looking to go to a Test match this summer, but I can't seem to get a train - except to Leeds station (which is a long walk from the Cricket ground).

Any solutions, gratefully received.

There's a station in Headingley itself and Burley Park is also not too far from the ground. It's on one of the regional lines so you'll need to change at Leeds in any case.

Can't be more precise than that as it is around 25 years since I lived near Burley Park station so it's all a bit lost in the sands of time.

I'm assuming they haven't shut the line down!

Yes you should be able to get a train from Leeds to Burley Park easily. Takes 5-10 mins and will cost about £3. 10 minutes walk to the ground from Burley Park.

If you get in early get to The Original Oak. Massive beer garden and they'll be serving beer and breakfast from 9.

You can get a train from Leeds to either Headingley or Burley Park which are both about a 5 minute walk away.

Oops.  Didn't realise it'd already been sorted.

The Original Oak? I was always a Skyrack man, myself! That's because the Oak didn't sell real beer back in those days.

The Oak's beer garden was a bowling green back in the day. Is that still there?

I think just a massive beer garden nowadays which was why it was my preference when I was local - no longer in Leeds myself. Great for tournament footy in the summer as they always put a massive screen in the garden. Awesome when you got a sunny day and 2 or 3 games on.

Not too surprised to hear the bowling green has gone. Everybody used to just sit on it in the summer months so it can't have done the surface too much good in any case!

Ah, happy memories. Not been back for a night out in Leeds for years, more's the pity. Never actually made it to Headingley Cricket ground either despite three years at the University. Very inconsiderately, the Test matches always coincided with my flipping exams...

Both bring back memories of Civil Service initial training courses in the 70s. All the B and Bs used were in Headingley. Some brilliant nights. There also used to be a brilliant family run Italian restaurant where the owner cooked in the middle of the restaurant. Wonder if its still there?

There is Salvo's in Headingley Barra? Not sure if they cook in the middle but it's a long-standing family run restaurant?

That's the one Rodders! Nice one. Actually the first place I ever had a calzone. Great atmosphere...

Have to admit, never heard of the Italian place in Headingley. That said, as an impoverished student, the only place we ever ate out was Nafees curry house in the early hours of the morning after a night out!

Like others say, not much in whether you go Burley or Headingley. Plenty of good pubs and places too eat as well - really good place too watch Cricket (and live I must say!).

I like about 30 seconds away from the ground so drop us a PM if you need any advice.

Had a great weekend in Leeds last August for my birthday. Some cracking pubs there, most of them recommended by Rodley among others. Headingley is also my favourite cricket ground. Remember going there in a mini bus during the miners strike and the rozzers stopped us thinking we were flying pickets. Had to produce our match tickets to be allowed to move on, which was fortunate because a lot of times we would just go without tickets and buy them outside the ground.
