"Listen for me it's disappointing"

"Listen for me I'm disappointed for them amazing fans who work all week"

"Listen for me I'm just happy we got a game Tuesday so we can put it right"

He sounds genuinely fvcked off particularly with Tom who obviously had clear instructions regarding marking Morecambe's set piece. However bad we were, one lapse of concentration has cost us a point.

I admire your optimism but I would be simply amazed if we were to make the play offs. There is no evidence that we can find the sort of consistent performances, let alone results, that would give us a chance of doing so.

We are miles away mate TBH. However considering recent years I am happy with where we sit in the table now. This time next week we might even have hit the magic 50 points :)

Another slow start with awful marking/closing down-don't know who was at fault, but MB does-he will work on it.

Some clear signs of individual skill, but they closed us down better than we did to them.

Not the sort of conditions to suit Osborne, who was taken off. Disappointed with Jones. Liked Clements. Thought Collins had a poor game. Dyson struggled.

Andrews and Mills bombed on. Tom B showed good flashes.

Plenty to do, but quite a lot to work with.

Not about to slash my wrists, but disappointed with the team cohesion.

Thanks mate.

At least he didn't bullsh1t his way through that. I much prefer to hear him tell it like it is and admit when a performance is unacceptable. Obviously, the fact that these away 'no shows' are recurring is the biggest concern rather than what MB says, but it's better to hear him speaking plain and showing his disappointment rather than trying to kid us on, or waffle on about the supporters or some other tosh.

I see you are doing the same as last week - doing down posters who do not share your views. Why do you do that? What are you trying to achieve? If that is what they feel, why shouldn't they express it?

In answer to your question perhaps they have resigned themselves that the rest of this season will be up and down, and what more is there to say?

I particularly liked the bit where he said the players thinking was from the league below and JT quickly pointed out that he had brought in the players from below.

That's cos' we are! I'm just so glad i was smashed at Newport and can't remember a thing about the game so i got away with being drunk off about it. Bit like cheating death i can imagine. Oh yeah, don't know weather it's been mentioned as this is the 1st thing i've read since getting home, but when the fans clapped Macca and Pearson then hammered the rest, i defo saw MB say to Macca " whats the effin point " before ordering the troops off. I do feel sorry for the guy but at the end of the day you gotta be prepared to take the $hite on a bad day just like you take the banking off last week.

Well done to all those heroes who went once more. (clap2)

After getting home from work, I listened like I am sure many of you did to JT's match commentary;
and I am sure the match was dismal, but he made it sound many times more so.

I loved his line about Tom pulling the back of a defender's shirt, when he was winning the race for the ball. How are you winning a race when you are behind somebody?

I think he said their " decision making " but could have misheard. He is right though. He specifically mentioned the move that lead to their goal and said they had practised against that situation but still didn't follow their instructions. As he said they went through all the tactics required, both at set-pieces and general play, to get a result but the players didn't follow this. Obviously the buck stops at the manager but surely the players have to accept some responsibility for not following those tactics? He also seemed to imply that if players consistently ignored those instructions then he had a squad big enough to deal with that.

Can't just hammer the players for individual mistakes though surely? I can't imagine the players are fond of being blamed by their gaffer, he's basically just said I'm doing my job but the players aren't.

What about the 88 minutes he had left to change it?

But it's not individual mistakes, it's a collective approach to the game and specific instructions and roles for the players.
If you mean bringing on new players to change it then that is a fair comment if they still follow the game plan that was discussed.
At the end of the day all the manager can do is prepare a team for a game, point out the oppositions strengths and instruct them how to deal with  this. If they can't follow this then surely they deserve to be blamed by the manager as a collective unit.

A defence made to look silly by 38 year old Kevin Ellison, I hope they are embarrassed and hang their heads in shame. We could have lost that 4-0.. Roll on Tuesday, who knows what we will get. I hope it is 3 points as Akinfenwa will be in town on Sat.

He basically said that was an individual lapse in concentration, but it's his job to get a reaction from the players.
I don't buy the once their over the white line it's up to them arguement. It's the managers job to get the players to play for him and the make sure they no their jobs. We've gone from being excellent away to absolutely woeful.

Double training sessions, time in the classroom, blaming players for mistakes and bucket loads of signings seem to have made us worse.

So all this training on set pieces and instructing players to adopt a certain role is a waste of time and still the managers fault even when they don't follow his instructions ! Unbelievable!!  MB said that they had specifically trained for the scenario that lead to the goal so it wasn't an individual lapse of concentration , it was a collective lapse. Surely part of the captains role is to ensure that the managers game plan is executed on the pitch, he's not just there to be part of the toss at the start of the gain. If my manager told me to do something and I didn't then it's not my fault , it's his. If a fencing crew are instructed to erect a fence 40 feet long by 6 foot high and they erect one 36 feet long by 8 feet high it's not their fault but the person who instructed them.
Of course it's the managers job to get the best out of the players but is it his fault if they don't do that or listen to how they can do that? Like he said in the interview, if players consistently don't follow instructions then there are others in the squad that will. It may take some time to drill this into the players but I'm sure that eventually the ones that want to succeed will " buy " into his approach. It may be a different style of coaching to what they have been used to but you either evolve and adapt or you fall by the wayside.

How is one person losing their man a collective mistake?

If he is really having a problem getting the players to listen and follow instructions then that would suggest a major issue. They are professionals and are all adults. The vast majority of the starters are his signings and should be right on board. Surely if you can't get the people you manage to complete your instructions its your responsibility and your fault.

If you listen to the interview after about 1 minute MB clearly mentions THREE players and we were set up wrong, that to me seems a collective issue.
If the players don't listen then we do have a problem. As the proverb goes " You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink ". It's amazing how fans will always blame the manage over the players even when the players are clearly at fault. And yes they are professionals and as such should behave, perform  and follow instructions in a professional manner.

Agree. And the fall-out from an error such as that is a breakdown of confidence that has a knock-on effect through the team. Whilst we still have some experience in the side, the balance has shifted towards a younger side and a lack of a leader.

fair enough, I hadn't picked that up, I thought he was blaming Bolarinwa for losing his man.

I have seen us a fair bit under Bignot and I have often felt that the players have lacked direction and not looked like they know their jobs, now the manager is saying this. At Crewe I felt we got a hammering because he left Davies isolated at wingback and didn't change our shape in time. I don't think Davies was out of position, I just don't think he could do the job that was asked of him.

Hopefully he will get it right, but saying the players don't follow his instructions is a complete cop out. Signing loads of players and then blaming them when we lose is worryingly Mike Newell like.

But the manager is saying they do know their jobs but not doing them. I hardly see that as a cop out. The match reports in the GET quote a lot of what MB says in that interview.
1 - " They all know their roles and responsibilities out there "

2 - " I can accept losing, but when you go away from what you've been asked to do, you don't switch on or concentrate, then it's frustrating for a manager because that's our job, to prepare them and make sure they know it "

3 - "They ( the team ) have actually been shown that corner routine. Before you've even got into the game you're 1-0 down"

4 - " You go out on the training field, you give players responsibility and then remind them again just as they go out"

Like I said in an earlier post, the buck stops at the manager but he is obviously trying to prepare the players in all ways possible to achieve a result but if they don't follow instructions what more can he do? As he says " If we can't take on the information that we're giving them, then there are going to have to be changes".
I certainly think the comparison with Newell is completely out of order. At least MB is trying his hardest in trying to prepare the squad and not just cruising along, which the impression I got from Newells' tenure

Especially when you are trying to intergrade a new group!!

When people talk of managers moving to big prem clubs from smaller clubs they always come up with "how will so and so deal with world class players?" O.K. fair point. I wonder if the same can be said for managers moving from coaching part time players to full time proffessionals?
Posted by: chaos33, February 27, 2017, 7:53pm; Reply: 42
I understand the argument but it was hardly a public flogging. I've heard much worse and he could have been significantly more critical and honest in public.

I'm not really that interested in the splitting of hairs over who's to blame. They should all take collective responsibility. It's not good enough and this is a pattern to our away performances now. Lots of people are failing to do a good job in some of  these games - management and players.

Hearing about it repeatedly  becomes tedious, as does the blame game. People turning round and blaming others or each other is weak. We want to see action and unity and we want to see it change.

Think he has his heart in the right place
Just struggling with these v inconsistent performances
I wonder if he is too inexperienced
We have had some poor performances
Are we moving forward or not?
