Anyone else watching it? I would love Sutton to do it
Posted by: ginnywings, February 20, 2017, 7:48pm; Reply: 1
I'm watching. Sutton manager just mentioned that all the Arsenal players have personal bodyguards, which just highlights how far the leagues have grown apart in the last 20 years. Hope Sutton turn them over but it's unlikely.

Like to see Sutton win but even though its only a weak Arsenal team it will be a massacre 6-0 or even more- if not questions will be asked

It's a weaker than usual Arsenal team but I wouldn't call it weak.

Sutton doing very well and chasing everything, if they can keep this up they would be in with a shout.

Sutton punished by a quick break - 1.0 to Arsenal.

The plastic pitch is definitely a bit of a leveller.
Everything has to be on the deck.
Not bothered who wins this. But wouldn't be happy if Town had to play on it.

Funniest thing ever--Sutton reserve goalkeeper on bench eating a gigantic meat pie-I'd have one of them- can we find out who the caterers are so we can get them into B.P.

Giving a good account of themselves. Would've been a lot more interesting if that header or the one that hit the bar gone in (the header should have).

That sub keeper eating the pie is the magic of the cup that's been missing. He was in the bar at half time apparently as well. Poor nutrition and boozing are what's missing in modern footy.

Absolutely. The modern era of football needs a re-incarnation of the legend that is Tony Gallon-more.

For me, Sutton never gave it a real go til late on. Lacked a bit of traditional giant-killing blood and thunder. Some of their approach play wasn't direct enough and Deacon seemed to over-elaborate and looked for more complicated options when the obvious pass would have been more effective.

Also did anyone else notice the comment about Shearer scratching that other lad's face? Big brave Alan making light of 'non-league players getting a scratch'. I seem to remember him not taking very kindly to a bit of rough treatment himself.

He was good in giving it out but didn't like it when Justin Whittle gave him a taste of his own medicine.

Aye, almost tempted to nominate him for TOTW again.

I just read that Sky Bets were offering 8/1 for the sub keeper to eat a pie during the game and he's earned  his mates a few £££'s there I think

I was really hoping the Sutton goalie got an injury, nothing serious, just enough to see the reserve goalie come on still wiping pie residue from his chops. He made Rhead look svelte. Brilliant!

Bit harsh on a non league side.

Thought Deacon looked an half decent player. though both wingers were reasonable but them we arent used to seeing wingers around here are we.

The F A Cup has been so lacklustre the last 15 or 20 years because of the way the Premiership clubs treat it nowadays, playing weakened teams, or in Manchester United's case just giving it a miss for the season. This year has been great with the exploits of not just the non league sides but also the lower league clubs teaching their big league oik brothers a thing or two as well. In short, the F A Cup has been invigorated, and it's been great to see..............until last night when Sutton United drank from the Murdoch cup and sold their soul to him by having their shirts sponsored by the Scum.

They are supposed to be a community club, with all that implies, yet takes Murdoch's dirty money after everything the Scum did to demonise the 96 who never came back from Hillsborough to their own communities. When will clubs ever learn?

But at least you get to see a cracking pair of t-ts in the Sun.
Far better than the boring communist rag the Mirror.

(although I guess you could refer to Corbyn and Abbott as a pair of t1ts)  ;)

The Sutton reserve keeper, along with his friends, apparently placed a bet on him eating the pie. The bet was placed with SunBet, the company also sponsoring Sutton's kit for the game.

It also furthered the stereotype of non-league, with the fat goalie having a pint and a pie at half time. His antics overshadowed what should've been a historic occasion for Sutton.

Absolute bollox. He should be a drug taking, drink driving, flash arrogant premiership tw@t. Then he would have been fine.
That girl private Joey Barton is still playing week in week out.
It was obviously banter.
What the flying fucck was a betting firm a: offering odds and b: actually taking a bet on this for.
Hope they lose their license.

Whole situation is a bit of a joke.  I was sad to see it as it became the main talking point reinforcing negative ideas about non-league football that we have learnt are not the case.  I gained a huge amount of respect and interest in non league during our time there and the hard work and dedication is to be respected instead of laughing at the strawman drinking pints at half time etc.

However this also seems a bit of an overeaction to let him go because of it when he clearly did a lot for the club.

The Premier League and media circus comes to town and this is what happens.  Sometimes I really like Grimsby being well out of the media spotlight

He didn't according to the article i read, but some of his mates did apparently. I think the betting firm were sponsoring the game as well. All a bit draconian really and not as pathetic as the Arsenal players turning up with bodyguards.

Scum sponsor community club.

Scum offer pre match bets including the reserve keeper eating a pie in the dugout ffs.

Some people think he had an "error of judgement" Murdoch, on the other hand thinks "Whoopee. I've generated so much interest in the Scum and it's associated interests for next to nothing"

Meanwhile, the Scum has reduced the F A Cup to a mockery after the recent magic. I say again, when will clubs ever learn? If you drink with the devil there's always payback, it#s what drives Murdoch and the Scum.

Exactly. Very disappointed to see Sutton take the Sun's sponsorship. It may have made them a lot of much needed money but surely there were other options. If you are a football fan then the Sun is not and never will be an option as far as I'm concerned.

I'm with Jock and Big Al on this. After the comments from the management of Sutton about not wishing to play the game anywhere else for fear of losing the 'Magic of the Cup' (copyright, any lazy journalist) they taint themselves with that.

I was a bit harsh but only a bit. They should have gone more direct, Arsenal were able to comfortably deal with slow patient build up. They would not have been used to the hurly burly of 15 stone blokes charging at them though.

For me Deacon fanned around too much and didn't put a decent cross in, overhitting it nearly every time. Which is why he's at the level he's at.

I suppose I'm just reacting to the over-egging by the BBC crowd of rentaquotes of how good they were.
