Guessing a 3-5-2 again with Mills as RWB?

So 3-5-2

                      Henderson
            Boyce Pearson Collins
Mills Clements Comley Osborne Andrew
                    Vernon Bogle

Looks to be 3-5-2 again but with the two new midfielders and Vernon for Yussuf.

Also, no Vose again.

Vernon ?

Much maligned and under rated IMO. I know i'm in a minority with that view but hey ho!

Surprising line up. I hope we use vernon as what he is, a hold up player, last few games he played we seemed to use bogle as that man, taking him out the game. Still not sure yussuf deserves to be dropped but we wait and see how we go. IIRC notts have very physical CB's from our trip there so might explain why we've gone with vernon

Vernon? Has to prove himself today I guess
Posted by: Mariner93er, January 21, 2017, 2:14pm; Reply: 8
I agree Ginnywings. I think everyone was expecting him to be a typical target man, bet he's clearly more of a footballing hold up player. With the two new lads in midfield, it will be interesting if we can play to his strengths a bit more.

Scott vernon doesn't get much game time at all and is not particularly in favour , a long term target comes in in asante and Vernon then jumps ahead of yussuf who hasnt done much wrong and the new lad.

Oh well let's hope it pays off.

We have a lot of depth now, can't wait to see the new signings.

I would agree, Vernon more useful as a number 10.  Only problem with that, as I see it, is that Bogle has a natural tendency to drop deep when he isn't receiving the ball enough, which could leave us without a number 9 on the shoulder of the last defender when we need it.
Posted by: ginnywings, January 21, 2017, 2:18pm; Reply: 12
Vernon should be a good foil for the new lads if they get the ball into his feet and move for a return. That would be my thinking. If we keep lumping the ball up top in the air, their centre backs will eat them up all day.

It looks like we're going to have a lot of unrest in the camp with the squad a lot of players not even making the bench

If MB is going on last week then Yussuf, like the rest of them, didn't do enough to demand he kept his place

Yussuf looked to be limping in the warm up so I would be very surprised to see him make the pitch today.

Not seen as many balls in the air since Lewis/Monkhouse days.

Hope it's a better second half football wise

Is there a league table somewhere which has live updates as the scores come in?

Agree about Vernon,  doing well as the holding man,  perhaps we've finally found his strengths.
Osborne playing well, not shying from the ball and as mentioned assisted the goal. Was nice to see some players go straight to him to congratulate him, whilst Bogle went off doing his celebrations.
Notts not offering much, did hit the post, but that was just one of those flukey  crosses.
Not an exciting game, but at least we winning!

Is it better than last week? Yes. Still a long way from "playing well" though. Players look held back by the system imho.

Funny how we've climbed right into playoff contention without even moving up the league, we're 1 point off the playoffs, and there is 4 points between 11th and 4th, very close league right now

Great result for Town. puts us on the edge of the playoffs. Now we have to wait to see what sort of a performance it was. Hopefully we will hear the new guys made a difference. I sense osbourne has :)

Even if we're not playing great football the fans will come in numbers if we are sniffing aound the playoffs which will keep the accountants happy and maybe help us recruit for next season. Small steps as they say. If we get in the playoffs and then wembley its big money time. :)

9 points behind an automatic promotion place (not withstanding goal difference) with 19 games to go - with a good run (there's always a team that does this at the right time), automatic promotion not out of the question. Think positive.
