For a Club with a big fanbase not a lot on their forums and nothing at all about this weeks game unless I am looking on the wrong ones?

I think it's fair to say they won't be quite as excited about it as we are.

Well, I'm driving up with a Pompey fan on Saturday and he's reasonably excited about it and says they've sold 1,300 tickets...

On their official site it says that there are around 650 tickets remaining. How much does the osmond hold? I thought it was 1900. Either way, that's a great following for that distance.

Don't know what you were expecting? Did you think that the Pompey fans would be creaming over the fact they get to come to our little run down middle of nowhere seaside town and take on the mighty mariners who finally managed to scrape out of non league via the playoffs?

This is not a big game for them. It is for us.

This will be the first time I have ever seen Portsmouth play, was born there 18 years ago and moved to Grimsby when i was 3. buzzing for this one!

I think the Pompey fan may have been talking about their initial allocation, which is 1300. Can't see any more recent update than the 650 tickets sold one. It's simply a matter of scale though isn't it? 1300 would be about par for them, they get over 3x the home crowds we do. If we took 400 there on a Saturday, it would probably be considered about par.

Absolutely. They've got their own rundown middle of nowhere seaside town to look after.

Actually he's a dealer in old books. A real Jekyll and Hyde character and a proper supporter.

I'd be amazed if he is not there.

Its that sort of ridiculous thinking that left us in the mire for 15 years, portsmouth are a huge club and this is a huge game

Disagree Hagrid, this is no different to when we played Carlisle, yes Pompey will bring a bigger following and create more of an atmosphere but they're still a L2 club and its still 3 points up for grabs. No rivalry and deffo not a local derby.

Really ??

Perhaps being scared of our own shadow and worrying about the strengths of Eastleigh, Salisbury, and Guiseley instead of playing to our own strengths is one of the reasons we were in the mire for so long

I guess you'll be ecstatic now we have made the big time and are in the football league proper !! Staying up would be absolutely magnificent I guess.

Big game at our level definitely, and they are a club with a decent fan base with some great history, But................We should not fear them by any means.

I have a vague memory of us beating Pompey 3-1 back in the old division 4 under Newman or Kerr and the highlights were on Match of the Day.  Can anyone verify that?

Well from my point of view ie cloudy eyed nostalgia Grimsby v Portsmouth is a proper traditional fixture for 3pm on a Saturday afternoon and they are like it or lump it the biggest Club in League 2 by a mile.I just thought with in excess of 1k of them coming they would have been on here for some banter :-/

That was at Fratton Park, towards the end of the 78/79 season I think. We were both near the top of Division Four at the time. We were promoted as runners-up at the end of the season but I think they missed out. It was towards the end of John Newman's tenure I think as George Kerr took over the following season. I remember Fordy scored at least one of the goals.

I have seen this guy in full flow. 2010 FA Cup Final. He was that pisssed that his photographer had to stand him against the pub wall whilst he was charging people £10 to have their photos taken alongside the Pompey Legend! Turned up 20 minutes into the game and could hardly stand. True legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8)

That was at Fratton Park, towards the end of the 78/79 season I think.

I was there and remember them playing Tragedy by the Bee Gees. Seemed appropriate for them on the day.

I used to sell scaffold towers and deliver them on my trailer. And was delivering down to Portsmouth area. Can't believe what I did as I parked my car and trailer along the main road with just a cover over the scaffold towers. Lucky that they wasn't pinched.

Town v Portsmouth F A Cup 3rd round  1-1, replay at Fratton Park Wednesday 26 Jan 1966, in those days the only way you got to hear how Town were doing was to go & watch the reserves & the tannoy system which by the way was better then than now would give you the score, 4,000 at that reserve game, 15 mins to go it came over Portsmouth 1 Town 2, we all waited 10 mins after the reserve game ended, Portsmouth 1, huge cheering as we knew we had West Ham at home and 3 England players coming to Blundell Park, the guy on the tannoy said,' hold on as its even better news' Town 3. I was 12 years old and i walked on air going home, Pompey were a big club then & they are a big club now, just like us in the non league they have lost their way, i hope they find their way back just as we are doing, that is after we have beaten them twice this season.

The first Betamax recorders actually came out in 1975 and Sony released their first affordable popular recorder in 1977.

It's very similar to 'badger watch' where a webcam in a badgers set was available to log on to 24/7 to see what was happening.

It's a live webcam that you can log on to.
It basically documents the life of an apple. From being a small bud on the tree, all the way through to being picked.  Shows them being crop sprayed. Attacked by insects etc etc.
Very popular with FGR fans,  or so I am told.
