His last act in football:

After winning just one game from 16 played in the 2015-16 season, Burnett was sacked by Dagenham on 21 December 2015.

I think Adkins has a lot to offer but we have nothing to offer him, remember he is from the 200k + salary level.

Chris Doig at 14/1....

Don't think I'll be putting money on his return to BP so soon!  ::)

Those who are happy that Paul is gone seem to think we will do better with a gobby passionate individual. You don't play football with your mouth my friends.

Tell you what I'd take Adkins or Holloway in a heartbeat but cant see that happening if I'm honest
Posted by: Harry Haddock, October 24, 2016, 2:00pm; Reply: 22
I'm surprised nobody has suggested Cotterill or Cooper yet. Their names usually get mentioned on here when we have a vacancy.
Posted by: 97 (Guest), October 24, 2016, 2:00pm; Reply: 23
Adkins no chance he'd drop to Div 2, Holloway more of a pundit these days and we're unlikely to come close to a fraction of his earnings.

The fact that Wayne Burnett and Dave Moore are among the favourites speaks volumes.

Oh I hate being cynical. Can't help it atm though.

They will be reading the fishy, seeing we like Adkins and trying to tempt some money their way. They have absolutely no idea because the club probably have none yet.

What a shame we don't have any sort of clear and focussed plan for the new ground. Adkins, Holloway etc would be ideal candidates to take up the reigns and see us into a new era, with new ground, top notch training facilities, and just a fresh start at a club beginning a new dawn.
Posted by: Mighty_Mariner, October 24, 2016, 4:07pm; Reply: 32
Adkins now shortened to 4-1 and Russ Wilcox in at 6-1. Evans at 6-1 and Cowley out to 10-1. Wayne Burnett still the early favourite at 3-1.
Posted by: davmariner, October 24, 2016, 4:10pm; Reply: 33
You only have to ask York fans what they think of Russ Wilcox to find out that the football he plays is terrible and that he's not a good manager. He's the reason they went down.

Adkins is always very positive, which is a good trait in a manager.  A complete change from Hurst "bigging up minnows" and making us trying to stop them.

What does Nigel Adkins do? He takes his team up  a couple of divisions.
I was at Glanford Park, in the Carlisle end as a guest, when Scunthorpe produced a champagne performance to gain promotion to the second tier (Billy Sharp and Jermaine Beckford scoring the goals in a 3-0 victory) a few years ago.
Then, Mr Adkins went and did it again with Southampton but with Premier League football the spoils.
Then, they dumped him for Mr. Pochetino when he'd just started to put some results together.
Reading didn't give him a chance i.m.o. - where'd he go next? Barnsley / Sheffield United - can't remember offhand.

My view - this guy can take Town up a 'notch' or 2. This is what he does - (with the right support). My hunch is that he would relish the Grimsby challenge, because he knows that we are ripe for what he does best.

You cant remember his post match interviews at Scunny then !!!  ;)

Out of our league realistically, used to love listening to his enthused ramblings even though it was Scunny he was talking about, has managed at Premiership level now so no way he will be dropping down to a club with a total playing budget less than a single player signing sum he became used to.

Fenty should get the £80k compo on him at that price then offer him a massive signing on fee if he joins. Once again I suspect we won't be prepared to take an innovative approach like that though.

Yeah, my member up. Really hope Adkins comes. When we lose, we can turn on him for his Scunthorpe links. It's like signing a scapegoat we can take all our frustration out on. He can bring Beagrie in as assistant, we'd have the illegitimates in stocks every week!

Seriously, would be a great appointment. I hope it comes off.
