I do believe that the fourth sub has to be a member of a Premiere league side academy.  Should any club from outside the Prem require one on loan for these games please contact Shaun Harvey  at http://www.fuckingthegameupagain.com

Why is the 6th round more worthy of an extra sub than the 5th round? Or the 4th qualifying round? Or a league game? What a shit idea.

Testing the waters, leading to an American Football type of situation. Team defending a corner, so they have a time out and run some adverts, while they bring on 10 defenders. Game goes on for 4 hours whilst they run adverts and sell more merchandise.

I think it's from the Quarter Final stage as that's where replays are no longer played, rounds before will still have a replay.   The fourth sub can only be used in extra-time.

That said it's not unheard of for replays to go to extra-time.

Well, we certainly wouldn't want those professional athletes to get tired, would we?

Many years ago I played in America in a tournament where they could use rolling subs it was brilliant no messing about at all and the game flowed with no stoppages the Yanks wanted it bringing in for the 94 World Cup.Guess why it never came in properly TV, as a result a genuine improvement to the game was lost. The time wasting with late and tactical subs drives fans crazy that was the perfect opportunity to get rid once and for all.The other thing that struck me with rolling subs it could have prolonged the careers of for instance David Beckham who you could have just used for set pieces.
