some stuff here on berret, also mentions summerfield.

from those commenst and stuff posted on the other signings seems like we are signing some real quality; lads who could, or have, hold their own in the divsion above

A good midfielder who can score goals at this level. A necessity if we are to survive and prosper in Div 2.

And still they come.

It's a hell of a side. I get the feeling that someone wants to make sure we never, ever go into non league again.

Its taken too long to get out of non league for us to be allowed to slip back again right away. If we have to spend a couple of seasons getting up to Div 1 im sure our fans will be patient but getting relegated right away would be too much for many. Getting the best squad we can afford is a must to make sure we stay up. We seem to be signing some good players already. lets hope there is even better to come. We must have a proven goalscorer at this level at the very least

There's no harm in having really heavy competition for all positions and these latest signings won't want to be bench warmers, looks like some goals from midfield this coming season??

Welcome and i hope it is fruitful to the new lads from York.

BUT they did get relegated, air of caution with my optimism, sorry for negativity.

Anyone know if this was a free transfer or paid for?

Website suggests free but BBC Sport suggests we've paid for him.

Just some strikers needed now!

Both of the ex-York midfielders scored some good goals in a poor side, so... given better players around them... ???

Heard good reports on this guy. A very good player for this level.

Welcome aboard.

Squad is really taking shape now. Just another 4 or 5  maybe to go. Lets get some finishers to put away the chances this team looks like it can provide.

Some good signings got me thinking about our putting a flutter on promotion. Bet365 only quoting 10/3 for promotion (20/1 title winners). Pretty short odds for a newly promoted side in pre-season.

I guess few good strikers are "out of work" so more to recruit. I can see at least one from lower leagues and maybe another experienced operator "on his way down".

Saw a comment about Summerfield being a grafter and Berrett sat further forward which worked. If that's the case then a starting midfield of Summerfield and McAllister holding with Berrett sat in front of them could be very, very good. Not to mention Disley will always be steady and Vose could operate in that position or further wide. In the space of a week we've got a very solid squad from having most of our players reject contracts. Certainly I can't remember the last time we had such an abundance of riches in the centre of the park?

Our midfield has been average for years. Not enough creativity or goals from there but I'm hoping all these new players will fix that, though I admit I know nothing about any of them. Seems a long time since some were bemoaning the departures of Clay and Arnold.

But aren't we signing players who have just done that very thing?  ;)

I'd like to think Dis' career could be extended if we play 4-3-3, others can do his running and he can keep it ticking it over in there and make late runs into the box for crucial goals. These signings have really brightened my mood after Brexit.

Possibly but I can see Diz continuing as club captain but struggling to be first choice in a centre mid packed with options. Wouldn't surprise me to see Davies being captain more often than not BUT I always believe we are better off having 4/5 leaders out on the pitch

The competition will make Disley even better ..... 👍

I think he might adopt 451 with 3 midfilders 2 wingers and 1 striker.  Or it could be 433 lol.

It's a long season with plenty of twists and turns, Tait played second fiddle at the start of last season and look what happened there

I have from a very reliable source that Berrett is skilful but lazy. Summerfield is a good footballer and a nice bloke.

Hope that PH can get the best out of James Berrett-if he can we could have the makings of a good team.

Hursty doesn't do lazy players so not a very reliable source is it should know that by now

Some players seem to look lazy when they play Monkhouse had that sort of style, not everyone races about like Reddy, going on comments from others we apparently have two in Berrett and Vose.

Last season we had a moody lazy player with a bad attitude who was out of his depth in the conference, a player that Lincoln supporters scoffed at us when we signed him, well in the words of Nigel Farage your not laughing now.
Its was blatantly obvious during last season that PH would be ruthless with players that he thought were not pulling their weight and he won`t change his spots in this league of that I am sure.

If Berrett is lazy he will not play

Hurst will not stand for that,

So if James does play he will work hard like the rest of the team.

We will have plenty of Quality on the bench this season, 8)

A lot of York fans will be bitter as the team they had last season were relegated it doesn't mean they won't shine in a different team.

I have seen posts on Twitter mocking us for signing berrett and summerfield mentioning how poor they are..... Let's not forget they have signed Richard Brodie and I haven't seen anyone moan about that.

Carlisle fans rated Berrett, Plymouth fans rated Summerfield, so it's just York who don't rate them, sour grapes I think
