We understand Grimsby Town have made "serious enquiries" for York midfielder James Berrett & ex-Minsterman midfielder Luke Summerfield #gtfc

Should we be signing so many from teams that got relegated? :/

Good player I'm told by York City supporting friend.

"Criminally under used last season. More of an attacking midfielder. Puts effort in.

No one could understand why Penn - who was generally crap, and Summerfield who just waltzed around doing eff all got in the team ahead of Berrett.
He was by far the best out of them when he played".

Looks like a fee would be required for James Berrett if true, he's under contract until 2017.

Does he play centrally or wide?

Three possible players from relegated teams in york and dagenham.

Why so many players from teams seriously at the bottom of the table ?

Berrett use to play for Carlisle....very good technical footballer.

(A) Teams that get relegated don't always have the worst players

(B) Some of them can be actually quite good

(C) More than happy to get a semi decent player from a relegated team as they will ahve something to prove no doubt.

(D) Paul's record in that respect - signing players off the radar - ain't that bad.

Seen him play quite a few times for Carlisle and thought he was a decent player in the league one side (at the time).

Played central midfield (attacking) the majority of the time but did on occasionally play wide.

He left to go Helpful, I think this was due Greg Abbot being sacked.

Think PH wants technically gifted players - and I mean at L2 level
With his man management (he is very popular with players) I think he backs himself to get the best out of them and fit into his more attacking approach (which I am certain he will employ next season)
If he does then we could be in for a very good season

Looks like he is replacing Conference players with.. well... Conference players!

An improvement on those he released / didn't make acceptable offers to? I think not

Im more intrigued who the strikers will be.  So far ive been happy with the signings hurst has made.  I couldn't care if some played in a relegated team as i think they will do well.

How many more is he wanting to sign?

Quoted in the paper this evening as saying he wants a squad of 25 including Venney/Clifton & Wright...so 22 senior pro's.

Doesnt sound alot to me when you have 18 in a matchday squad.  Reserves, if we are having them, will be largely youths i guess for the main.

Right I've been garnering some opinions on these players, it seems that Summerfield is a good steady player at league 2 level and he's got a good long shot, also seems that Berrett is technically very good, very attack minded, quite quick, on his day he's unplayable and also possesses a good long range shot.

It seems to me Hurst is signing players who are good at long range shooting, which is good because we haven't had many of them for a few seasons
