Maybe an idea to have a thread which can be updated as we sign new players or players re-sign.

So far our squad is......

Goalkeepers - James McKeown

Defenders - Danny Andrew
                 Josh Gowling
                 Zak Mills
                 Shaun Pearson

Midfielders - Craig Disley
                  Josh Venney
                  Max Wright
                  Harry Clifton

Forwards - Omar Bogle.

I will amend this post as we sign or re-sign more players so then we can see at a glance how next seasons squad is shaping up.

A lot of clubs in the same situation.

I read somewhere yesterday that Plymouth only have THREE players contracted for next season at the minute.

We have a squad of 12.  How many more needed?

I reckon 8 more.

4 are young kids though ? Would still say 12/13 minimum TBH . Remember NO loans during season now . Fox

I would be happy if one of them was Michael O' Connor ex Port Vale.

It's going to be interesting what level of striker playing level and ability he is looking for this season !!

Ollie Palmer was as close as we got to a Plan B two years ago, and nothing really came in last year, we just waited until the available strikers clicked in / or were in favour for some games.

He is one player that I would be happy to see return on a season long loan, if not playing at Leyton Orient.

I hope that hungry for success players are on his list over these next 2 important weeks.

I am certain we will have a bigger squad than last year, so plenty more to come in yet.

I have seen this lad play a few times, he could be a good squad member, He's 21 and good on either wing.A bit of raw talent and some hardened professionals wouldn't be a bad mix.  Also Dayle Southwell is expected to make a decision on a move in the next 48 hours. I have a sneaky feeling he could be back here.

Really?!  Wow, that would surprise me.  But if he's made the progress some would suggest, we should give him a chance, absolutely.  I wouldn't see him as a like-for-like replacement for Podge though, and neither would Hurst, I suspect.  Hurst MUST have a pretty damn good striker lined-up to not fight tooth and nail to keep Podge.  I have my fingers crossed it'll be the modern-day equivalent of a Garry Birtles-esque signing; I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that in the Telegraph as a kid, and it worked a bl##dy treat!

Actually I see him as very much like-for-like replacement, both are Jack in the box strikers and both seem to have that flair in their positional play.
I would imagine he would demand much less wages than Podge if he did return. Also he lives local which is another advantage.

I don't think we'll be seeing any more confirmed signings today so the latest squad update.

I'm a bit unsure as where to put Rhys Browne as he's described as "an attacking winger" so  I've stuck him in the midfield  for now but can always change it when we see where PH is gonna play him.

One thing that has struck me since I saw the fixture list is, how frightening it looks to have gone through that with last season's team. They did us proud and got us out of the Conference, but looking at the teams we will now be playing, I think Paul has done the correct thing to rebuild for this new challenge.

I think he will stick Warrington on the bench and use an emergency loan if mckeown is injured or suspended. Warrington is capable enough of seeing out a match, Premiership and championship clubs have such bloated squads that there is always going to be spare goalkeeping capacity plus it will save him £25-50000 off the budget

I've not included AW in the squad yet as I 'm hoping that PH will sign another keeper to add to the squad, especially now that we can name 7 subs. If he doesn't before the start of the season then I will add AW to the squad list.

Defence is looking nice and tidy with Mills a more than capable replacement for Tait.Danny Andrew is an improvement on Robertson; Dan Jones has as much, if not more, potential than Toto.

If Ben Davies signs where does he fit in. I really hope PH can come up with a couple of good strikers. His loan strikers have not exactly cut it, but then better strikers would not necessary have been available on loan. Crucial we have some firepower.

Ben Davies will place in midfield, maybe swapping with Disley.

If we are playing 4-3-3, this is our strongest midfield with Davies:

Sean McAllister - Craig Disley - Ben Davies

So what else do we need?

I believe Hursty has said he wants a 25 man squad (including the likes  of  Clifton and Venney) so 6 maybe 7 more to come in.

a 2nd keeper?

We have 7 defenders with a couple who can cover more than one position.  I think PH may bring in another one.

We clearly need some reinforcements up front so at least 2 out and out strikers.

2 or 3 midfielders with  at least one a wide man and versatility to play up top.

Any other players who have been strongly linked with the Mariners?

I think you're about right. I'd be surprised if we didn't bring in a young understudy keeper, seeing as 7 subs are allowed in League 2. I think ideally PH would love to find a left full back who can cover on the right, freeing Davies to be central midfield cover. Think he'll look to bring in 2 more midfielders, probably attacking wide players rather than central (we now have six central midfielders if you include Davies, so not sure we need an extra one there). And then 2 front men- one burley hold-up type and one nippy one perhaps.

Posted by: TonySmith, June 29, 2016, 11:40pm; Reply: 43
It's starting to look pretty good, but we still need two forwards and a second goalkeeper. Minimum. And we need forwards of different but complimentary types who can all score goals at league level. That's still the big missing piece of the puzzle for me. I just hope we're saying "Padraig who?" in a couple of months.

Four to go based on what PH said about 25 including Andy Warrington.  Mainly strikers I assume?
Posted by: TonySmith, June 30, 2016, 2:43pm; Reply: 51
So Warrington will be our second goalkeeper? Well he certainly has the experience, but I was hoping for a young keeper to come in. Whatever, I wonder if this means Hursty will still name all outfield subs even with 7 allowed or would Warrington be named as a sub every game? It's amazing to me that having no 'keeper sub has not bitten us in the bum even once yet. Surely, it's only a matter of time.
Posted by: acko338, June 30, 2016, 2:48pm; Reply: 52
Andy Warrington looks to be capable enough to bench sit for any one off occasion, but the emergency loan system would probably be used if needed - saves a full wage until needed !

A few bob more to entice a better class of strike force to play alongside Omar, hopefully, then we will defend higher and just outscore the opponents !! (Fat Les theory !!) - wouldn't it be great if the games just panned out that easily ??

With the amount of centre mids and attacking wide players we've signed, he must be looking at 4-3-3 or some variation.

Still think that we need another keeper to challenge Macca and keep him looking over his shoulder for the number 1 jersey.

At the moment he's in his comfort zone. What happens if he looses his form or confidence?

For me the squad looks more like this, in terms of positions.

GK - Macca

Defenders - Davies, Mills.
                     Pearson, Gowling, Jones, Boyce.
                     Andrew.

Midfielders - Disley, Summerfield, Berrett, McAllister, Venney,

Forwards - Bogle.
                    Chambers, Bolarinwa
                    Browne, Vose

With Clifton and Wright making up squad numbers for the time being.
And Vose probably able to play in the middle 3 too.

With that, I'd say we need:

- one more left back to compete with Andrew.
- another midfielder OR another wide forward with experience of playing wide in a 433. (Depending on where he plans to use Vose)
- a centre forward to compete with Bogle.
- a centre forward who can be the "plan b" option to go more direct to if needed.

So no new keeper then (unless we get an emergency loan during the season).

4 new players. I reckon another defender and 3 attackers  (one of which may be a wide man).

Warrington is a more than capable at covering mckeown. Him being signed on a duel registration frees up wage budget to sign better players. Hurst likes to have 4 strikers in his squads so it will be 3 strikers and another left sided central defender / full back. Hurst has already quoted saying he needs another defender

But if we are looking to play 433, it seems pretty pointless having a 4th central striker if only one is in the team at a time. One playing and one or two on the bench. Whoever is 4th choice will never get a kick.

But if we are looking to play 433, it seems pretty pointless having a 4th central striker if only one is in the team at a time. One playing and one or two on the bench. Whoever is 4th choice will never get a kick.

On the other hand we played 3 out and out strikers in the game at Braintree so having the 4 strikers gives both options and covers injuries

We are listed on the BBC website as the busiest club in the transfer market with 12 signings. Who'd have thought that when we got promoted?

Plymouth must run us close, as a couple of weeks ago they only had 3 senior players on their books.
