His diagnosis on his RH interview :
- Our teams problem is we don't win enough headers
- He wouldn't put his mortgage on us winning the away game

He genuinely said that, although later in the interview he said he felt confident

Hurst has no idea how to deal with the media. Did he honestly say that about his mortgage? If so get him out! He's lost the fans!

Bit of an insult to everyone that TBH..............If we don't win Sunday he may find his mortgage a bit harder to pay.

I'd like to rehear the interview to be honest as the way im remembering it, he tried to make what he was saying more and more assured, while sounding less and less certain as he was saying it, there was definately something to it, think he knows this might be his last chance (although it probably won't #30yearsofhurst)

Hurst i'm sure will be going from job to job in the lower leagues for the rest of his career. The FA trophy is good for Hurst but not good for the club!

FFS Paul you don't help yourself do you? I want you to be that confident you put all of our mortgages on it.

I was suprised about the mortgage bit and how we are now the underdogs + there's the option to go more direct . Really hoping for short sharp passing football at Braintree like I've seen in a few of the away games , I may be in the minority but still really feel we can do it if we get going , hopefully not just blind faith .

Aside from the obviously stupid statements re: mortgages and also the pressure being on them (who is his dealer) he did make a good point about the next goal being critical. Unfortunately we could play against them four times more and not get a goal.

Ronnie moore basically said what hurst was doing wrong tonight and how he could see the game going as the time went on ,too many long balls, he said omar is not a target man and needs the ball into feet, and run at defenders with his pace.

Use the midfielder to push up as braintree came to defend and were playing deep,so he said in five minutes what hurst hasnt done in five years with us.

Kevin davies also said bogles body language suggested he didnt fancy it and something wasnt quite right with him .

What a thoroughly depressing listen that was by Hurst and Tondeur.
No searching questions asked, no positivity from him concerning the 2nd leg.
If anyone listened to that it feels like we have conceded already.
Good job the fans still have the belief, those two sound like the world is coming to an end.

I'd take in a refugee if it meant sacking Hurst tonight and bringing in Moore for the second leg, Fenty needs to act now because we will not win at Braintree with this clown still in charge.

If i knew how to actually start a new thread i would !
Ffs, we are clueless under hirst , i cant even bring myself to spell his nane correctly.
I can not belive how far we have fallen Ffs.
I have watched town since i was 14 years old , im now 45. I have had a season ticket since being 19 years old.
I donated over £150.00 to op promotion
I have purchassed play off tickets and booked my hotel
I have cost myself a fortune turning down work to watch my team
I have now had enough !!!
This manager is f@cking clueless !
The performance tonight was at best average, and thats being generous ffs.
I really cant see us turning this tie around at their place, i sincerely hope we can but i really dont think we will.
Anyway, i wont turn my back on town, i cant its in my blood, in my DNA, but please Mr. Fenty, get rid of this f@cking clueless yorkie male masturbator.
I have a sneaky feeling i may have beat him up when i was 18 going round the fitties yorkie bashing, maybe this is the reason he is doing this to me, f@cking up my famous home town club.

Im so p*ssed off tonight i feel like driving down humberstone avenue and pissing in every letter box until i know i have got the right house !
Unless you do the right thing for this once proud and famous club !
Before the match i had a good few STRONG beers and a bomb of whizz, since then ive had a few more STRONG beers and im just about to shoot up a bag of brown , it really cant be any worse than i feel right now.
Feeling so so down...... BRAINTREE FFS !!!!! 😖

Bogles body language was picked up on ... Now as a rule i defend him to the hilt but not anymore . he needs to grow the intercourse up and lose the tag of being a lazy trainer with a couldn't give a toss attitude and as for Ronnie Moore absolutely he would have challenged Gary Johnson unlike no plan Paul

The bit that I remeber about the interview was when he said that the fans have got a choice as to whether to give up or stay positive. In other words another dig at the fans.

Hurst has not the first idea how to beat Braintree. I think the tie is over. Hopefully so is his career at Grimsby.

I said earlier this week that the play-offs were a real test of management. In particular their ability to change a game when things were not going well. Does anyone seriously believe that the substitutions he made this evening had any positive impact on the game?

As usual, the opposition manager gave a far more impressive interview. It is clear that he had a gameplan coming in to the match, and that he knew what needed to be done at various stages in the game.

I honestly cannot see us progressing to the final.

I could not agree more.........Omar "stole" his wages tonight and looked every bit the amateur we signed in the Summer.

We wont progress anywhere..
We have gone backwards this year with a better team.. and will lose this tie to a part time team, im all out of blind faith and we simply are not playing well enough or seem to want it enough to win a football match
change the manager before Sunday
The players look stifled and PH has lost them

Disagree about Bogle, I thought first he he worked quite hard closing defenders down and looking to make himself available.  2nd half he seemed to be struggling with a groin injury or something.

As Ronnie Moore said he's not a target man. Most of us have known this all season but Hurst persists and banging balls up to him.

Hurst messed this season up royally and I'm afraid it is time to try someone knew at the helm, for next season, if as expected we don't get the result on Sunday. Hurst has been found wanting again and again. Just achieving the play-offs should not be considered good enough for Grimsby. Hell Braintree just achieved that and they're part-time, not that they looked the part-time team tonight.
Posted by: RonMariner, May 5, 2016, 11:20pm; Reply: 38
Regardless of his words he had the look of a man who believes that the game is up and I don't just mean this tie. I think he knows that he is on his way.
Posted by: Grantley, May 6, 2016, 12:32am; Reply: 39
Glad people are finally starting to see Bogle for the child he is. Said weeks ago that, currently, he wasn't all that and his attitude stinks. Needs to buck his ideas up or he'll be playing for Telford soon.

If you have no plan B and cannot score against or beat Braintree, aim to play Dover in the play-offs. Preferably away first and win like VGR did.
Posted by: Mrs Doyle, May 6, 2016, 3:42am; Reply: 41
Basically the man sounded lost he was STILL lamenting the fact that he could not get a big target man in ???

FFS Hurst work with the tools you have got.

You have wasted money on mediocre players like Hoban,Straker Henderson? Stewart,Jennings............the list goes on.

If the holy grail of having a big target man is your only game plan which seems to be plan A,B and C we are in big trouble.

We have no pace on the flanks against a PART TIME OUT FIT who looked fitter and will be working today this is all very embarrassing.

I find Hurst's comment that he wouldn't put his mortgage on it truly astounding. Regardless of what is said in the dressing room, that comment will get back to the players and what are they going to think if even their manager has no faith that they'll do it? It is Hurst's job to inspire the team, to give them the confidence and belief that they can turn this deficit around and get to Wembley. It was patently obvious how little confidence the team had last night with nobody willing to take risks and how feebly they gave up after 70 minutes. So instead of trying to draw on what little belief remained, Hurst shatters it with an ill-thought and rash comment that was exasperatingly what he probably believes deep down. It was the interview of a man floundering, devoid of ideas and aware that he's 90 minutes away from the losing the best job he will ever have.

The other really troubling comment was that we could go more direct. That is the complete opposite of what we need to do and shows just how little tactical understanding Hurst has. Braintree are set up to force us to go direct, they will eat it up all day Sunday like they have every game this season. They know exactly what we will do because we're so predictable and they know they can keep us out all game without much of a sniff at goal. Hurst needs to do something unexpected that will get them thinking, trying to get us playing in the space between their midfield and defence. He can moan about not having a target man all he likes but it has been his failure to find one. We don't have the players to knock it long like last year so we can't play that way and it's staggering that after an entire season of long balls not working and everyone on here being able to see it, that our so called professional manager cannot.

Instead I really wouldn't be surprised if we were to see Pearson on up top as an early substitute when we're inevitably still trailing the tie on Sunday. Let's face it, both our substitute strikers are pretty shite, I've no idea what's happened to Pittman but he's unfit and useless at the minute. We don't have anywhere near as strong a squad as people make out and our bench is so bad I'd laugh if it didn't make me want to cry. Again, after five years there is only one man to blame for that. And we've got a manager who has always been lacing in any tactical acumen and is thoroughly desperate.

Top post..............

That "go direct" quote worried me too as actually with balls coming in from too deep this season we have been "going direct" and it does not work.

I loathe everything about Braintree especially their handful of leery glory hunting Essex boy fans but I have to give them credit as they set up solid without parking the bus. Also at home they seem to be able to attack well and keep their shape.

We MUST go for it on Sunday. This won't happen but I would go for 3 - 4 - 1 - 2 on Sunday with Arnold just ahead of the mid field 4 behind the strikers.

            Macca
    Toto Shaun Josh
Tait Dis Nolan  Horwood
            Arnold
       Podge Omar.

However I will put my mortgage on 4 - 4 - 2 no changes until 70 mins then LFL with the same shape.

Lets face it this season is over.

The one that bothers me more than the mortgage one is the more direct observation.

In every single way he sounded a man who has no clue what to do.  His pre-match interview was equally as puzzling.

Nah... let's just keep hoofing it. If that doesn't work then pick the ball up and boot it over the bar for a conversion. I used to be proud of following a club that played football. When we've torn teams apart, it's been by playing football. We have really lost our way I feel.

The first words out of his mouth should have been "we're going there to win and will be giving our all to do that" not a negative remark like that mortgage crap.
I think it sums the man up in a nutshell.
