Does Roy Chubby Brown still live in Tetney?

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

We would have been better off with Chubby as manager than Holloway.

Don't think he ever lived in Tetney. He's lived in Fulstow for years.

And when you fall back into the mud it hurts a lot.
No! None of it was true, none of those things we thought we could see existed at all.
All that was really there was still more misery

True story, I went for a pint with Chubby Brown’s lad the day he was released from prison. I was working in Billingham at the time, an industrial town which is essentially to Middlesbrough what Immingham is to Grimsby.

See, I was working for a small web development business, opposite the massive ICI plant, but I only learned sometime after I started that the business made no money at all and my boss was in fact a prominent local heroin dealer.

Anyway, he says one day at about 3:30pm that if anyone fancies leaving early we can go for a pint with him as he’s off to meet his mate who’s literally on his way back from Durham prison. It was good enough reason for me to sack off a couple of hours work.

So, we all went to the pub and I eventually got chatting to the bloke; who had the thickest Teesside accent. I casually asked him how long he’d been inside.

“Six years mate”

“Fúcking hell”, I said, “what for?”

“Attempted murder”.

😳

He could see me take a step back.

“Yeah, but you’ve got to understand mate…they were trying to kill me!”.

Chatted to him for 15 mins or so and he seemed a decent bloke to be fair, if not the sharpest tool in the box. Then he goes on to say that his dad’s a comedian, so I asked who, and there you have it. Chubby Brown.

Surreal afternoon. A pretty surreal time in my life, come to mention it.

Edit: just Googled it and the lad died in 2019. Sad.
