Just been on a train back from Bradford to Essex and a face i recognised sat next to me on the train... but i couldn’t remember exactly who it was. The guy was in his 70”s.

So i sat there and googled as many 70 year old+ fa people i could remember (there’s loads!) and then finally realised it was David Dein formerly of Arsenal and The FA.

So I googled one of the best matches of my life (Grimsby 3 Arsenal 4) in the FA Cup 3rd Round in 1986 and i showed him my phone and said - David - were you there?

It turns out he was the chairman of the time and remembered 80% of Arsenal line up on the day (I tested him from google!) and he commented how freezing it was and we watched a bit of the match of the day clip.

On the long journey back to Kings Cross he told me about;

- How 70% premiership players are now foreign when the 1986
Arsenal team - the only foreigner were Irish!

- Winning the league in the last minute at Liverpool
2-0 weeks after Hillsbrough in 1989
- How he brought Arsène Wenger to Arsenal

- How he feels Arsène Wenger is disrespected nowadays

- George Graham

- That he recruited Bruce Rioch over Arsène Wenger first time round

- About the forthcoming video referee technology

- Howard Webb

- Barnet chairman!

- Riding around Paris on a motorbike

- He asked me about my business.

As we pulled past The Emirates - I said to him - your back home now and that we are in the process of building of our Emirates.... he said that’s great - when will it be ready. I said I don’t know - the project started back in 1986 when you last visited Blundell Park !!!!

He told me he has just done a voluntary speech at a prison in Yorkshire and then his wife rang him and he said “don’t worry dear” I”ll walk back from the tube station- it’s only 15 minutes. He’s in his 70”s

I suppose you had to be there to appreciate it..... but what an absolutely brilliant man. Genuine, nice guy happy for a chat and so open and honest about today’s football and shared memories of one of the best games I’ve ever seen.

We have twit of the week.

Well I vote David Dein - top bloke of the week

How did we used to get so many of us in the Barratt Stand? Always remember on cold/windy days cries of shut the door as people entered/exited via single doors at the back of the stand.

Loved going in those days especially night matches which had a special atmosphere.

Nice to hear that there are still some good people still associated with football. Are you listening Stevenage?

Yes, the sound of all those feet stamping on the wooden floor on freezing nights to keep warm!

Wasn't David Dein one of the architects of the Premier League?

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

£93m would I guess make you fairly relaxed and convivial company I expect.
