Yet another nil.  This clown must surely get sacked now, he has been nothing short of absymal.  Don,t even think I can be bothered to go next Saturday to watch us record another nil and probably lose.  I wish another Chairman with a few quid would step in to replace Fenty as well.  He has been the curse of GTFC over the past decade.

Make some changes Board of directors whilst we still have 3,000 fans left FFS....................

Sladeball has always been boring but last time we had a striker and other players who could score, this time I believe the budget has seen what sladeball can afford, bottom end with a few lazy clueless players. I don't think we'll go down but I might invest in a neck brace and some sun glasses, we are more likely to knock a seagull out of the air than score at the minute. He'll get another season because someone at the club seems to like lack of ambition and drive.

Ok Friskneymariner ,i'm not going to hide behind a red cross , the redeeming features I see in Slade is, When we are both at  GTFC matches It makes me realise I'm not the most stubbon, useless ,pigheaded tw@t there. I've never called for a managers head previously but if he stays I can only see us going in one direction and that doesn't bear thinking about.

Fenty will not sack Slade at least before the end of the season because he appointed him, he's his mate and it would cost paying his contract up as it seems to be a state secret as to what his contract length is, a bit like Herts police stating they cannot comment on bra gate using terrorism laws. When the club accounts came out earlier you can see why Fenty is happy with mid table as he is looking at getting his money back a bit each year.

I'm done with going to games for the foreseeable. Completely fed up with the club from the rude club shop/ticket office, to the non-chairman to the playing squad and manager. Don't deserve my money.

If I didnt have a ST I would be the same.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

My brother is a season ticket holder and he hasn't been since the Lincoln game. Has no plans to return any time soon, so i said to him, "why don't you sell your season ticket then"? He gave me a knowing look and laughed.

I am not going to say Slade out but I will say he must wake up and smell the coffee. We have a half decent squad. We have a few players who's suit a team to play 442 and keep the ball down when possible. We need someone upfront with Jones who can run off him and make runs into the channel at pace.

How many years is his contract for-can't find out anywhere-are they afraid that if we knew we would all go a walking-bet it's not the same as Hurst or Bignot.

The thing is, we all know Fenty will stand by Slade for much longer than he stood by Bignot.

The only thing that will make Fenty act is if the attendances drop off significantly. Think ahead to next summer after a 19th placed finish this season... how many season ticket holders will renew?

How many new fans will we attract?

That'll make him hit the panic button. Income streams dropping off a cliff.

If you had a good relationship with the fans, you'd be able to talk some of them round. But Fenty doesn't even have that. Him, his fellow board members and some of the staff have no relationship with the fans to speak of.

Slade's style of management and Fenty's style of stewardship is driving the most loyal fans away very, very quickly and something needs to change.

Only one man can do something to turn the tide.

I'm sorry but the budget has f**k all to do with what players we have . Instead of signing 11 players in the summer he could have signed six or seven quality players but chose not to. He is well past his sell by date and is a dinosaur in football coaching terms. I never wanted " Judas " back and have made no bones about it in all my posts. He has had no success in football and his achievements are summed up in the word " nearly ".

If he has got that contract were doomed unless we see major investment on the pitch because the style of play dictates low home crowds.STH apart people are not going to pay for the crap being served up at Blundell Park at present.Another Fenty masterstroke.

If things don't change it'll have to be paid up simple as that, otherwise the gate money we will lose over 4 years will dwarf that figure.

Totally agree SM. I have not seen or heard one word of support for the brand of football on offer at present in the ground on social media or in and around the Town even the happy clappers have gone AWOL.

Ive watched Town for just under 20 years.

My dad use to take me
then i took my younger brother.

Ive got the badge as a tattoo on me, basically i'm a massive and passionate fan.

Yet i've never felt so disinterested about them in all my time.

Didn't even know our line-up yesterday until half 3 when i was told...

I use to go out my way to make sure i was at every home game, and as many away games as possible, and i now don't even bother going to most home games.

I have a 20 month old son, and would rather sit at home with him, then pay money to get frustrated and angry.

And there is no chance of taking him to Blundell Park any day soon, last thing i want is the NSPCC knocking on my door...

You are surely happier now than under Woods when we fell into non league? Or the horrible 6 seasons down there? It is not great at the moment but I for one would much rather watch league football. It reminds me when we were in the Championship and we still only got 5000 home fans and people said they were fed up because the football wasn't great.

One of my contacts has just told me this too (his info has been 100% so far), we are doomed...

We know Fenty's love of a rolling contract, but a 4 year rolling contract really takes the urine.

i agree but the advent of social media has changed things for ever!

Previously you moaned down the pub with a handful of mates, now you get it 24/7 on forums, twitter, facebook. Like a dripping tap it gets to you after a time!

When spectators just pack up going and the club, any club, is then on a downward spiral, like a run away bus out of control. You can see what is going to happen but you cant stop it.

Whats the alternative? Support through thick and thin and accept you can change very little or just decide there are more important things in life?

It may be a 4 year contract, but would be surprised if it was rolling.
Usually, if a manager gets fired, they would receive a maximum of one year payoff whatever the term-its called negotiation.

Don't know whether £138k a year is the going rate or not, but makes a change from being accused as "Penny Pinching". Can't please some folk!

Lets just hope we start to see some positive play on the pitch, but don't expect to until we get some more points on the table.

Think what Russ is doing re getting younger players for the longer term is good. Also he is clearing up some of the mistakes on signings made by his two predecessors. Admittedly, some of his own signings are uninspiring, but give him a chance in the January window. Plus with Osborne and Asante back we might just see more entertaining footy.

What makes me sad is that the club have killed the resurgence in interest and excitement that wembley and promotion rekindled. They are making such a mess of things, it's a crying shame.

I'm not saying Slade out, but things have got  to change, and immediately if the club are to stop people turning their backs and walking away.

I'm slightly concerned about our long-term future. I look at York, and remember how well they played to get out of non-league, and then they made a string of bad decisions while in League 2 and, well, look at them now.

It's vital that when you finally get yourself out of non-league you learn from the mistakes that put you there.

I thought we were learning. Continuity in the dugout, continuity on the pitch, great off-field things going on (sticker book etc), a thriving Trust, OP, and a feel-good factor that all helped get us promoted.

Right now, I don't think we've learned a single thing. Same man at the top making the same decisions/mistakes... we're only going to go one way unless something changes.

The fact that all that togetherness and momentum we had from getting promoted has been smashed to bits upsets me greatly.

That feeling is pretty unanimous and the fact Lincoln who were miles behind in terms of organisation and support off the field have made it look so simple to carry on the momentum just rams it home. The only thing they had in there favour over us was a slightly bigger home capacity possibly slightly better matchday facilities. The Imps turnover on matchdays at SB must be roughly double ours then x 23 it`s criminal what`s been allowed to happen at Grimsby and sadly no lessons from 98 were learned. We need a massive change of direction off the pitch or we need to accept were probably going to yo-yo between league 2 and non league for the foreseeable future.

I think you have missed the point or maybe I haven't phrased it correctly. If he had , for example, £440,000 budget on wages available for new players ( I think I read somewhere that the average wage in League 2 is 40k a year) then instead of signing 11 average players he could have signed 6 quality players on 73k. If these kind of players weren't available at the time then why just sign make weights for the sake of it? It's just a waste of a playing budget. If he needed cover then why not put some faith in in the youngsters coming through. Instead he brought in bench warmers and some not even doing that.
If he is supposed to be building for the future then why have a regular back four consisting of three players whose total age is in excess of 100yrs and a left back who is a liability. If we don't get promoted this season ( which on current performances is highly unlikely ) then he is going to have to replace at least two of the geriatrics at the back and then we start the defensive re-building process again with the possibility of another season without a promotion. Unfortunately JF will not get rid of Slade, unless we really nosedive down the league, because it would be an admission that he got it completely wrong in getting rid of MB prematurely. I know MB seemed a bit of a maverick and certainly some of his team selections were baffling but at least he should have been given a summer close season to strengthen the squad to how he wanted it to look and then maybe some of his decisions may have made more sense. I'll stick my neck out here and predict that MB will achieve a promotion before Slade does. OK so he is managing at a lower level than us but didn't Slade manage at that level with Scarborough and didn't get them promoted?

I was one of them.

I was happy with the appointment, i knew the football wasn't great, but its a results business and i was happy with what could be about to happen...

Wilko come back, and it seemed good, and seemed a positive move

it also started ok at the end of the season.

However the transfers have been below average, and the football has been painfully bad.

We have gone 5 games without a goal from open play, just the penalty against a youth side...

We have won 2 in 12

There is no way Fenty is going to get rid of Slade this season. I've heard that it was always a two season plan - get rid of the bignot dross, sort out the club off the field, save as much cash to invest next season.

If thats the case (and I suspect it is) we've got a boring season ahead. I personally groaned when he was appointed. I hate his style of football and goes against everything that Buckley had us playing when I first watched town. Frankly, I hate the way we play. But if it gets us promoted next season then it's a compromise most fans will accept.

"sort out the Bignot dross."

How many of our squad are actually Bignot's signings? FOUR. And two of those (Jones and J.Osbourne) are seen as two of our better players. (Clements and Asante being the other two).

Most of the "dross" you say needs sorting, although I wouldn't use such a strong word myself, is from Hurst and Slade signings. In fact so far, I'd argue Bignot's recruitment in general was better than Slade's (so far).

I can’t see much sense in sacking Slade when there is no-one else any better around and the playing budget is so limited. That’s not to say the football is good or the results not disappointing but I would guess both would be a lot better if Slade had been able to recruit his targets. The past is the past is the past though. We can’t keep living in it.

I am not in the least surprised we are not scoring goals. Jones isn’t a genuine striker and Vernon plays like the poor man’s LJL. We is stuck at the minute, isn’t we? I would like to see Jones and Osborne in midfield and 2 strikers up front with Dembele even if we sacrificed a little width. It may not solve everything but I can’t see much benefit in changing managers just now even if JF was minded to, which I doubt.

The best scenario all round would be for Fenty to sack himself.

I agree about the attacking options - to think Vernon is our first choice centre forward is a shocker. Jones came to us as an attacking midfield player didn't he?  We have better formations for the players we have got - but will he change things around?

I don't want to say I told you so but...

Posted April 12th in th Russell Slade thread (is it against Fishy protocol to quote yourself?  )...

Quoted from MarinerMal
I think this appointment is a mistake.

Since the Bristol Rovers play-off final defeat I think the board and fans all seem to be pulling together. There has been such positivity around the club which we haven't seen for many years. With promotion this only increased.

It may have waned a little this year as we achieved our initial objective of safety relatively quickly and only ever really flirted with the edge of the play-offs.

However, I can't imagine a more divisive appointment than that of Russell Slade. He left us, not for a bigger club but for Yoevil. He made that play-off final all about him in the build up, with the speculation surrounding his future. The football his team produced was dire (not just in that final but general style of play), anyone remembering anything else are deluding themselves.

This is a very backward appointment but typical of Fenty's managerial appointments, he's just not very good at them. In football, nobody ever knows for sure but in my mind you have made one huge mistake here, John.

I've never been one to call for a manager's head but I won't be sad if I read tomorrow that he's gone.

I fear the only way Fenty would get shot of him now is if we started to drift towards the relegation zone but I don't see that happening. We are still difficult to beat but don't score many. That will keep us in and around mid table, but my god, is the football boring. A season in Limbo.

To think Vernon has been our first choice striker for two seasons is more shocking.

All I want is for everyone - managers and players alike - to look at Grimsby Town and say, 'Yes, this is a brilliant opportunity.'

At the moment, the manager and most of the players look at this club and just see a pay cheque. There's no desire to improve (or even prove) themselves. They're just going through the motions, plodding along, probably about to retire anyway.

I just don't see what RS is trying to build. We're not wildly inconsistent and staring relegation in the face, no, but we shouldn't be.

We should be recruiting players like Osborne, Sam Jones, Asante, players looking to prove themselves in league football. Not every signing will work but that sort of recruitment policy has got to be better for the future of this club than Slade's right now.

How can we afford to sack Slade And Wilko--we would have to ask for another Benign Loan to pay them off

Our best striking option (Sam Jones) was signed by another manager and came as a Number 10 - that says all you need to know about Slade's recruitment. Some of his signings, although in the first team squad (Woolford, Rose, Clarke, Dixon, Matt & Hooper) are, at best, no better than what we had and the fact that others (Kelly, Cardwell) often don't make the bench is not a ringing endorsement.

Whatever the plan was, it was a excrement one.

Fair comments, maybe it's the contract side of things, according to Sam Hirds dad at the time he didn't join because the club wouldn't give him £50 a week petrol money to commute. That's the difference between getting a player who went on to play in the Championship and bringing in a Heywood or Hope.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

Jesus’ disciple Peter, picked up a fish to get the tribute money from it, Jesus left his thumb print on the fish, bless'ed is the Haddock.

That's probably also the difference between running a successful fish business, and an unsuccessful Football Club

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'
