They clearly need someone who can get them organised and he can certainly do that. They've apparently got a wage bill of around £35m so in theory there should be some alright players there. However, from the outside, the club does have a look of rotten to it; they've been shite for a decade - imagine that!
As said though, even if he was sacked after 3 or 4 months, he'd still have a high stock with league 1 clubs AND he'd be richer.

They're flipping clueless, joined from Grimsby town 18 months ago. Celebrated one year in charge last week.
You do realise a year is 12 months not 18 don't you?

What Sunderland need now is a sensible appointment. No punts on untried managers - just someone who's proven over time that he gets teams playing as teams (because they've got the individual talent to get out of bother).
It's literally all they need. Get those players playing for each other and they'll be fine. There's enough quality at that club.
Wot like the last few they've had??

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

All true Abdul but I wonder if he would have what it takes to organise them. Why has he signed so many players he knows at Shrewsbury? Not so much because they are good but because they will do what he wants. That is different to Sunderland where he may find players who know more about the Championship than he does, who are earning as much as he is and are used to being managed by someone they may not like but at least has relevant experience. I think Hurst would be foolish not to have a go, he’s not daft, he knows there’s money in it. But he will know as well that he starts from scratch. No friends in the dressing room this time and players needing management skills he hasn’t had to produce before, as well as getting to know how the game works on the pitch at that level. It’s a lot to ask and it needs more than just his usual defensive ideas at a club with their kind of expectations.

I do not think Hurst would walk out on a club he has a contract with, Just because he did it at Boston and Grimsby does not mean he would do it again,

Didn't he play for most of his career at Championship level? He'd have some idea of what it takes to grind out results in that league.

go for it Hursty - you've got nothing to lose and everything (especially £££££) to gain. he would only need to spark a marginal improvement for them to be safe - the players they've got are certainly good enough to survive in the championship
good luck to him - don't begrudge him any success or financial windfall he gets

If he goes there and does not succeed then he'll get sacked and get another reasonable L1 or 2 job without a doubt, come t think of it JF like to appoint previous managers
