Once he stopped the rot the big questions would be can PH get on paper better players to perform and obtain Promotion whilst fighting against teams with bigger budgets? Sunderland don`t seem to spend a lot in recent seasons but the potential of the Club is enormous he would be mental not to give it a go.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD

No punts on untried managers - just someone who's proven over time that he gets teams playing as teams (because they've got the individual talent to get out of bother). It's literally all they need. Get those players playing for each other and they'll be fine. There's enough quality at that club. "Don't shine that light in my face, mate - I've just lost a pint of blood."
