Given the question about 0-0 draws thought it would be interesting to look at the other end of the goalscoring scale.

Grimsby once went 39 home games without failing to score a goal. When was this?

Also, during this period, the defence did something else which I'm fairly sure will never have happened at any other English club. What is that?

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

Pre WW2 folks.....Helps if you've got a copy of the excellent Grimsby Town FC Complete Record. The defensive thing is mind blowing by the way.

Something to do with the 1928/29 season when we won promotion from the Old Division Two?

Same back 4 every game?

In the 1932-3 season GTFC lost at home to Stoke 0-1 on September 5th 1932. It was August 28th 1934 when they drew 0-0 with Sunderland that they next failed to score at home, just a week off two years. In that time they played 39 homes games, and finishing 13th in 1932-33 they secured promotion to the old First Division a season later.

Under the old outfield defensive syste, right back, left back, right half, centre half and left half, Town went through the whole of the 1933-34 season with them playing every single game! No squad rotation in those days. Bestall and Craven also played every game, so seven of Town's team played in every single match. Jennings missed just one game to total 41 appearances. Glover was a real slacker by comparison as he only played 39 games, but we'll forgive him that as he scored 42 goals to average more than a goal a game. Just to prove that was no fluke he then went on to score 94 goals in the next three First Division (now the Premiership) seasons. What price would someone like that fetch nowadays?

Plus, there was no such thing as substitutes back then!

Then that Austrian Corporal stepped in and caused trouble preventing that team from fulfilling their destiny.

I saw your face and heard you call my name.
