Good to see Mills back involved. Shame DJ isn't starting for Woolford after his goal midweek.

Not impressed, bout time some got there chances after lacklustre performances.

What has K.Osborne done wrong to lose out to the underperforming geriatrics.?
At least Kelly doesnt get a trip to his old club.

Poor Tombola, e as a sub could be a game changer but no Russ is stubborn and plays his boys.

Or maybe, just maybe, the manager has looked at all the players available to him, considered his options for the first 11 and what he thinks are the best options to have on the bench to bring on if needed and decided that Bolly doesn't match what he thinks is necessary for today's game.

A wacky idea I know, just putting it out there.

Vale have had several, Mckeown made a couple of saves
Port Vale having joy down their right

I think McKeown was fouled. Their player with the man bun seemed to jump into Macca. Bit unfair, but we move on.

No......when to come, when not to.....he has a habit of sticking on his line when he has space to come out or trying to jump over 3 or 4 players and punch the ball...again ...punching the ball is something he is poor at.
If 3500 regulars know he is weak at this part of his game, then surely the coaching staff do too and should be working day and night on improving it.

Report I'm getting is it's our left side letting us down. Vale had more shots but we are slightly unfortunate in the manner of the goal (their player backed into Macca preventing him punching it clear. And relegated player in centre mid playing well.

More crap from slades bargain basement , . No decent back up keeper,, back line as old and slow as father xmas,, midfield  run by relegated  players, and no one up front who who can score in a brothel. Well done again mr fenty . hope you are pleased

All this was predictable before a ball was kicked at the begining of the season, well J.F we are stuck with this players but does not mean we are stuck with manager, does it have to take home crowds down to 2,500 to make you act.

At least Vale work the ball nto dangerous positions we dont. When players have the ball under control in the oppositions danger zone anything can happen. Hit the ball hard at the goal and chance your luck. Anything can happen. Players are always obstructing the keeper and getting away with it. If we did our share we might ge the breaks. It seems every time we get the ball in midfield we hit the ball aimlessly towards a forward and hope he can hold the ball which is unlikely as he's generally out numbered.
If Slade cant teach them better than this i despair of them. We are in deep trouble in my opinion.

GET's live text says "The best way I can describe that first half showing from the MARINERS is pedestrian and uninspiring."

It's a dismal season and we're not halfway through. I hope to see an improvement second half but I feel it's unlikely, and there's the problem. Very average team with a very average manager in charge, unable to either take the game to the opposition and grab a goal that we can then defend nor able to grind out a game and keep the sheet clean.
If it stays as uninspiring as this we have yet another Fishy Groundhog day with calls for him to go, and calls to stop being silly and stick with him because it's apparently still early in the season and blah blah...reading the above summary for the 1st half AGAIN just makes me despair...I'm just completely bewildered as to what Fenty and the board thought they were gaining in this appointment.

Apart from two distant shots we have done nothing, no one good enough in the middle and a geriatric defense, Macca fudges up with Clarke nowhere and Collins to slow to react = 1-0 down, they need rockets up their arses at half time this team is so pedestrian I'm waiting for the lollypop lady to warm up any time soon.

If you can't dominate your box then it's going to look like you're being impeded every time a cross comes in

So what's he supposed to do? Go around pushing opposition players out of the way? FFS!

When vale players have the ball in midfield they dont boot it forward. Other players peel off and make theselves available so they can work the ball forward without losing the ball before trying to make an an accurate pass in to the penalty area or a good cross. I thought this was basic football teaching? Seems not with Slade.

How do we play this now then? An early goal should do wonders for a team, just hope we push on for more goals, holding out could make it a long day. We need to show some kind of ruthless streak at this point.

Obviously not. Like you, I've not seen it, so if he was fouled then fair enough. But as said by others, we concede a number of goals from high balls into the box and he's often indecisive. It's not something he's got better at.

If it had been the other way it could have been a penalty. It could have been a foul given against the Vale player. So don't give me that crap about it being a contact sport. It isn't any more - not by the rules. It's not the 1950s any more.

Great for Dembele's confidence - knew he had a goal in him - play him up front alongside a target man.

The perfect Fishy match thread. Smiled my way through it know we were winning before I first started reading it. Slade out, Slade in, shake it all about.

Personally think his footy style is more turgid than a night out in Goole, but a win is a win is a win.

What a great through ball by Summerfield to Dembele, this is what happens when you don't hoof it aimlessly forward at every opportunity. Great 3pts and up to 13th, we need to learn from this, keep it on the deck.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

We have won despite Slades way of playing. If he'd let them play it on the ground we'd beat teams like Vale easily. The strikers have goals in them if we just work the ball forward through constructive passing before getting good final balls in when we are in goal range.

We got away with this one IMO because we played better football in the 2nd half. It shouldn't be like this. We are making it too dificult for our own players playing a style which ends up with us giving possesion away constantly.

You can only comment on what is happening in front of you....first half we were non existent as an attacking threat, commentator said it, expert said it, people at the game have said it, Slade has just said it on RH.

McAllister apparently no where near being involved, not involved in training he is just running.  Pay him off.

Just got in from Sleaford and had no idea of the score. The first half of this thread had me feeling well depressed.

They have a new manager and a bigger gate than normal, so it was obvious they would be up for it from the start. Sounds like a good second half, and for once in a blue moon, we came from behind to win. That is the most pleasing aspect for me.

Well done all the lads and Slade.
Three points away from home always good.
Nice one young Dembeli pleased for the lad.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

To be fair, from rubish to good within a half time break is more like it. Insipid and aimless first half, to a team that can actually raise its game and play better, more effective football. I do think the die is cast for this season and this is our Saturday afternoon/Tuesday night pattern.

Should be enough to see us safe but I'm not at all convinced this time next week we wont be picking over another lacklustre display.

Pulled that one out of the fire.. just.... pleased with the win and something must have been said at half time . But we are still not a good team and gives slade time to relax for a few days.. i still wouldnt trust him to pick his nose let alone a team.

Summerfield has done a few of these lately-proving he has several attributes to his game-hope others learn from him-if they do we will go places

It is fascinating to read the Port Vale forum match thread - it is a mirror image of ours. Before the game and up to half time they were ecstatic with their new regime; beating us was just the first step to eventually winning the Premier League...but by full time they want the manager of 3 days out!!  Gotta love us football fans!

You say our defence was unconvincing but we only conceded a goal when Macca dropped a cross at a strikers feet so we can't have been that bad surely?
