Disley's testimonial hasn't had much mention on here recently.

Does anyone have a list of all those signed up to play so far?

I've seen recently Rob Scott is tutoring on FA Talent Identification courses as well as media work.

It would be great if as many as possible from the promotion team were there on the night. Obviously they would probably not be allowed to play by their present clubs but they could form a guard of honour for "Skip".⚫️⚪️⚽️

I thought it was being done to try & keep the interest up... Announce a player every day or so in the lead up rather than naming them all in one go.

I'll be going regardless of who is playing, it's for the legend Captain Fantastic.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

Now confirmed, Toto is playing, all we need now is Podge and it's the squad we should have had, shows the respect the player and PH has for Dis not many teams topping a league would let a key player come over for a testimonial

I think the most impressive thing is the number of players that have agreed to play who are still professional footballers with different clubs. Most 'benefit' games are between the players current team and another club. This way the secondary club can use it as a friendly, fitness test etc. Each player will need to have got permission from their current clubs to play, there will have been insurance issues etc.

I would say the fact that so many will have gone out of their way to be part of this tells us how much as a man and a skipper he was held in high esteem by his peers.

Good to see

Could we take lenny on loan as well? current longball tactics would suit him much better than the strikers we have. him and dembele together would be good.

If Dizza is happy with it. Why not get Sir Alan of Buckley to manage his team.  Surely that would go down well

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.

That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

He's too good for us  Hurst didn't want to sign any of our present strikers for Shrewsbury but he wanted LJL. I'dhave him back in a shot

I think LJL would have been better thought of if he’d played for us since promotion. There was a lot of pressure on the team in general in the Conference and he himself was under even more being our main ‘strike threat’ (I use that very loosely, whilst being aware that he did get 20 goals in a season). Had he played for us this season he’d have been well thought of because of his work rate which is perhaps lacking in our current strikers.

I am at work for the Testimonial but intend to buy a ticket/donate some cash for it. I see that there is someone looking for nominees to turn the Freshney Place Christmas lights on - Dis is worthy of that honour isn’t he?

If true then it will give Killip 90 minutes. I think Russ will probably treat it like a reserve game, give some of the fringe players some game time in front of what will hopefully be a good crowd.

I am really looking forward to this, I hope the ex-players get a good reception from is fans

He's down on the last update on the OS, so it'll be Killip in goal for Town I would think.

Just makes me sad to think that he is another one who should still be with us. It'll be hard not to get bleary eyed about most of Dis' team. I guess being a sentimentalist doesn't help.

Boulding is 41 but I'd bet he's still quicker than all of our strikers.

Looking forward to a brighter future now Fenty has gone.

I’m still trying to think of an ailment/disease to contract for a night off work that night. Grimsbyitis or diarrhoea are too obvious I think.

I think the attendance for this game is going to suffer because of our recent poor showings at home. It shouldn't, but i fear it will. Bad timing for Craig as i feel there is much apathy around the place at the moment. I'll be there regardless.

There will be a goal and at some point it will be scored by Diz remember it's a testimonial that's what you do.

Any ideas who was the last GTFC player to get a testimonial? Feels like it was Macca but I don't recall it.

Macca had two didn’t he? One in 96 vs Leeds (might not have been his, it was my first ever game and remember it being a testimonial) and a second against Hull in about 2007.

Yes.

We wonder why we gave a stupid free kick away in such a dangerous position. And then we ask why do they score worldies against us 😉

Think the last one I attended was for Mark Lever or possibly Macca?

To be honest I don`t begrudge Diz anything and he gave sterling service but he wasn`t here 10 years and on that note not sure he warrants a testimonial? However due to the service he gave and the way he conducted himself I felt obliged to get tickets and it will be nice to say thanks to most of the team that got us back in the league.UTM

I'm not looking at it as a testimonial, but a chance to give him a proper send off since we didn't 100% know the Plymouth game was going to be his last for us.
In my eyes he's more than just a player. Remember this a guy that other than playing for us has no affiliation to Grimsby.

I will be there tonight and see it as a kind of closure for those years in the conference, it would have been nice to invite the promotion winning squad to BP tonight too to support dizza and give the fans one more chance to applaud them. In 30 years I suspect we will be having guest speaker dinners with lads like diz, Shaun and Mckeown.

In my eyes he's more than just a player. Remember this a guy that other than playing for us has no affiliation to Grimsby.

It's the kind of bloke he is, everywhere he's gone he's been seen as a loyal player who gives everything for the club. Always a good example as captain for other players around him and a real classy pro.

For those with a better, if not longer, memory than me....
Who's was the testimonial that drew a massive crowd because having a ticket stub meant you were guaranteed a ticket for an upcoming big cup match? Again can't remember the team in the cup but suspect it might have been for the Everton game?
I went and paid but didn't watch the game for some reason. Perhaps I was on nights or something. Once again, can't remember! 😀 Lololololol 😁

Dave Booth's  testimonial.........a crowd in excess of 13,000

I think the ticket stub was for the Wolves cup game.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

They did the second for Macca's second testimonial, stub holders were given priority for Newcastle and he got a crowd of over 6000 if I remember rightly

Thanks for posting the video mariner83. Looking back, its great remembering the connection and good times we all had during the last couple of seasons up to the Wembley promotion. Yes I know it was tense at times, but it was FUN; Wembley, Op Promotion, Wigs, Inflatables, The Shop christmas video, Turgoose video........and that Nathon Arnold goal! It was a great time to be a GTFC supporter. Supporters and players, we were all in it together. All the lads tonight in some way played their part in that. Cant wait! UTMM!!!

The ref was a fking joke.
Never ever a penalty for the all stars. And as for giving a re-take for the keeper allegedly moving causing Disley to miss, ridiculous.  Hope he gets reported 😉

Joking aside I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice to see the old faces. Thought Ross Hannah took his goal well.
And a cracker from Osbourne as well.

Great evening of football and reminiscing. Not had so much fun in a football ground since Wigs at Woking.

Great to see the ex-players. Think they’ll be like the Laurie Mac squad in years to come.

2031 there tonight for a great evening of entertainment, Dizza and the players got a great reception and I'm glad I didn't  miss this game. It's probably the most on the ground football that BP has seen for some time with some lovely weighted passes with plenty of movement.

Entertaining game lovely passing from both sides marvelous what a bit of extra time and no pressure does although second half  the all stars lack of fitness levels visibly showed.

One lovely forward pass for Gregor Robertson never the quickest he just gave up on it look over to us and laughed great moment. lol.

The sheer pace of the current sides attack did them and D,J. showed why he should be starting games for us.

Osborne's goal was typical of the man and showed some lovely touches and passes. We need him back in the side ASAP.

The ball hardly ever launched in the air except Loyd's goal kicks that struggled to go thirty yards up field lol.

Great to see the old promotion/wembley winning squad back together.

The night belonged to Dizza though was well pleased so many attended on and off the field for him.

Thanks, I have amended the attendance, guess I got carried away with a really good evening   and Osbornes goal was a great effort, poor old  Lloyd Griffith was left completely rooted after a couple of good saves.

I didn't realise until I got home that we had a few triallists playing in the second half. Probably explains why they were trying a lot harder than you would expect from a slow-paced friendly match!

A lot of pace among the second half subs so it seems Slade is at least aware of what the squad is missing at present.

Really disappointed to not be able to make the game. Live several hours away from Blundell Park anyway so getting to a game is always a challenge on a weeknight, but was even further away this week due to work commitments so it was just never going to happen. Really wanted to get there to be honest.. I really only got into following the Mariners in the last decade, and so really the only success I've known for the club was our promotion - and of course that squad, and especially Disley, are the legends for me in the time I've followed the team.

Can only hope Disley comes back in some other capacity in the club in future.

Absolutely agree with that, 17 was the liveliest and him Akheem Rose and Hooper certainly livened up our attacking third, good movement and runs off the ball as well as interaction between the three.
A sterner test for him against realistic opposition defenders is needed though to evaluate.

However...

it was Turgoose out on the right wing who was the suprise package for me....simple passing, kept possession and some cracking crosses in that put our first teamers to shame.

I previously posted having him and Lloyd Griffith included took a bit of shine off the event in the run up for me however i am happy to retract that statement now as Tommy's performance pleasantly suprised me and seeing Lloyd Griffith perform actually made me laugh, which is the first time i have ever said that about him.  Fair play to both of them.

Yes Hearn surprised me, I thought as a footballer his injuries had done for him, however he has not lost his quick burst of speed and positional sense.
Also good performances from Brown, Josh and Hannah, some great touches all round without the pressure of a competitive match.

Not allowed by Alfreton. Players involved would of got sacked if involved!!
Disley wasn't happy about it and you could tell the team was short on players.

Not like there are league players is it...

Fantastic evening and was great for my young lad to see some of his Wembley heros and also see some older faces.

One minor point which I thought we missed a trick on...

It would have been lovely to see each player announced individually and walk out of the tunnel one by one, for each of them to get a reception and a quick song by everyone in the crowd. Only a small thing but would have been nice to recognize them all individually.

Overall though a brilliant event and really enjoyed it. Would love to see Diz back here in some capacity. A true gent and in my eyes he is a Grimsby Legend

Throughly enjoyed last night. Lloyd Griffith took a lot of banter and responded well. Was Hannah ever offside or was Pete Jagger the limo too slow to keep up.

When he scored the first goal we did joke that he only managed to stay on side as it was a pass from the opposition. Nice finish though.

Cracking save from Killip to deny Hearn at the Pontoon end as well first half.

Must say Hannah was never that sharp in front of goal when he played for us. Wonder why Lenny and Toto only got a very brief cameo, was it one last dig fron Hurst?

I wouldn't say it was a dig, obviously didn't want them picking up any injuries. Probably allowed to come by PH but only to play 5-10 minutes. I know Wrexham only allowed Pearson to come if he only played 15 minutes, even though he played 25 last night.

I think Pearson said he was allowed to play 20 minutes in an interview with JT before the game.

Paddy said he loved it and there was a great atmosphere between players and also the fans and that it was great fun. Really sad to have missed it through work/little kids. How did Paddy play? How about Mick Boulding?

I've got such a lot of affection for loads of the allstars and wish some of them were playing for us now!

Paddy played well, roaming drinking passes around around and playing with flair. Effectively the fulcrum for the All Stars attack for the first half hour.

Can't remember much about Quick Mick last night.

Quick Mick had a quite game but as a bit part he did show some nice touches. Pearson despite only on for about 15 to 20 mins still looked rock steady. early on Hannah and Hearn looked very lively. The extra pace was far to much for Gregor though lol.

i think the one last dig from Hurst was in the programme feature, talking about signing Disley ..." we (him & Scott) were questioned whether a two year deal was right considering his age but we fought our corner to bring him in " ...

Have to say the £60 for a mascot package was a bargain.  My daughter walked in the away dressing room where the all stars were to hugs and high 5's.  Why only 4 children took that deal up I don't know but that is a never again moment that she'll never forget.

Haven't thoroughly enjoyed a game so much at BP for a long time and didn't even cry when Dizza's voice broke when he spoke after the game.  So great evening all round!

Fair play to Hurst for letting Toto and Lenny come - more accommodating than the mighty Alfreton!

Well Dis was Hurst’s man, I’d have been massively disappointed if he had prevented them playing.

Highlight of the evening was Lloyd Grittiths for me. Comedy gold.

Agree, Lloyd gave a fine parody of a keeper, even though when he trotted on in his yellow strip he did resemble an over fed canary. Great stuff.

To be fair to him, he did actually make a couple of reasonable saves as well.

I reckon Pearson was looking at the touchline, wondering why he hadn't been subbed when Jaiyesimi went past him too easily!

Interesting to see Jaiyesimi play through the middle, even if it was just in a friendly. Didn't look too out of place in the role.

Really enjoyed it; more goals than the last SIX home league games combined!

Initially I couldn't work out whether to support GTFC, or the Disley All-Stars.  Chose the latter eventually, particularly as they passed it so well, with a lovely Hurst-style lob-sided midfield of Dis, Brown and Paddy, with Arnold out wide.

Felt we needed two or three more if am being really greedy, Wood as mentioned, Clay, Tait, Pittman etc.., but was really good to see so many familiar faces.   Odd that GTFC had so many trialists second half.  Thought Clifton was impressive, most i've seen of him; full game!?

Gutted I could not make the game but great to see everyone turn out for Disley. The speech at the end summed the guy up, everyone can resonate with that team because they were all on our level and I miss it.
