Just out of curiosity what is the station/platforn called near Aldi Cleethorpes? And how come its not in use anymore? I'm a tad on the right side of 30 so have never seen it in use but surely their must be a way of getting it used for when we have big away followings coming to town. Imagine how much easier it would be to escort big followings straight down one road into the ground.

I think you'll find it's ...New Clee

It used to be used when there were large away followings.... Newcastle for example

It's called New Clee and it is still in use on Northern Rail services.

Why isn't it used for away supporters on Saturdays? You'll have to ask National Rail / East Midlands Trains / Transpennine Express / British Transport Police.

I remember the good old days of getting off at Grimsby Docks and having a pre match Freemo crawl.

TPE trains have never stopped at New Clee. It's just the Northern, Cleethorpes to Barton train that stops at New Clee and Grimsby Docks, but both are request stops.

As has been mentioned though, it has been used in the past for the larger away followings we had but that was way back in the 80's early 90's I think.

How come that has stopped then? Surely it would make so much sense if for example we play Sheffield United that special trains get put on and stop at this station. Close the back road off, keep home fans away and walk the away fans down to the ground. Simple.

There are no lights or insufficient lighting on that station meaning that it couldn't be used for most of the season due to the darkness after the match on a Saturday. Not sure but I don’t even think the Barton trains stop there now in the evenings once the clocks have gone back.

If a visiting supporter purchases a ticket to go to Cleethorpes cos he wants to have a drink and some grub before the game why would he get off at New Clee to be met with a desolate car park ?

I bet there isnt much in it distance wise either from Cleethorpes station if you took the prom and Fuller St route.

If you wanted to get on at New Clee / Gy Dock do you have to stick your arm out and hope you're spotted in time for them to stop?

Yeah. There are quite a lot of request stops in the UK.

On the Inverness to Kyle line I think there are about 7 or 8 alone.

Edit - Even more that I thought....149 in total, although it's probably more as Grimsby Docks isn't listed here, or maybe it's not a request stop.

We have in the past got the train from Clee after a few pints in the No 2 and got off at Gy Docks by request to go to the Yardbirds Club. Think that is usually the Barton train.

I'm not quite sure why i think this, but that sounds like a really good night out to me.

How do you get the train to stop? Is there a bell you ding or do you have to tell someone before you get on?

Yes, you are correct and i got my trains mixed up, but we have asked the guard to stop at GY docks before, so must have been the TPE to Manchester. I've also requested the Old Clee stop in the past, travelling the other way, as it's nearer to where i used to live than Clee station.

That used to be the case but it ended up with a lot of one armed people in the town.

Its all to do with what's called Pathing.  In other words whether there is a slot available to unload or load a full train before the next scheduled one is due to travel that route.
This is a problem due to the line only being single track.
The other problem is that the train driver has to be signed off to stop at that station which would mean extra expensive training by the train company for the occasional football service.
