You can't buy a £10,000 car, spend five times that amount on it over the next 15 years on maintenance, insurance, MOTs, improvements and fuel costs and then expect to sell it for £60,000 in order to recover your outlay. You will still only get £200.

You don't have to be a businessman to work this out. It would seem that some individuals can't quite grasp this concept!!

15 years of decline all under one mans tenure! As sad as it is, things will not change until the leadership changes. I am certain that things will get a lot worse before they get better (As they do in most relationship break up) but I think this needs to happen to secure our future! We may go into administration so someone gets their outlay back but, in the long run, things will get better!

The togetherness of the fans and passion of players like Diz, Pearson and the ups and the fire in their bellies a distant memory.

The Stadium?? Talk talk talk, no action!! Just another poor example of someone attempting to elevate their own portfolio!!

Every heard the phrase, if you loved someone enough, you would let them go?? Maybe it's time to consider this?

Your game of Championship Manager has not been a success.

Don't let one man destroy this Club!!

Last night the atmosphere around every aspect of the club was awful. An atmosphere of dread even of impending death.
No spark on the pitch and no leadership off it.

In our relegation season the atmosphere in the stands was largely one of fight, 'we can get out of it' attitude but last night it seemed 90% of fans were there our of habit with only the gallows humour lifting the gloom.

Yes, the weather didn't help but the issue is far far deeper than that

The whole club from recruitment to the chairman this season is a shambles.

The whole club playing side and general has a feeling of it of a club from 10 years ago , route one shiteball.

We need a new chairman and a new manager to excite the whole town again but this just won't happen unless I won the lottery tonight.

Its a catch 22.  The fans feed off the players to generate atmosphere which motivates the players ehich then generates more atmosphere.

I remember the days when you could hear town famss miles away from the stadium home and away

The Fenty years.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

George Kerr used to say it was like playing in a cemetery.  I have seen nothing to excite me for years. I used to love night matches. The atmosphere was always better. After last night  no more for me.

i have thought barring odd matches the atmospthere has always been pretty dull, the sound coming from the top right of the pontoon can be a good effort but the rest of the ground pretty poor.
we have amazing away following but cant replicate that at home for some reason.

It's all very well pointing fingers and assigning blame, but nobody seems to offer any plan B. There simply isn't one other than a vague desire to replace the current regime. Nor do the critics ever band together to try and build some momentum around an alternative. Is snipping away from the sidelines going to achieve anything? At least if there is to be an opposition it needs to be organised and have clear goals.

Nope, this is what happens when the whole experience (on and off the pitch) is simply not worth £22.00.
I would be very confident that the vast majority of those that didn't attend last night were NOT watching on TV/Laptop/Phone etc. They just found something better to do.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Fair response, but I can imagine the streaming will have an adverse effect on atmosphere at BP during the winter season. Combine that with our dull football and current form, the two could result in a rapid decline in attendance.

I feel this whole debate is totally unnecessary. The forum is in total meltdown because we may end up mid-table at the end of the season.
How many seasons did we spend in the conference?
Patience, people, patience....
Yes, the defence isn't as great as we would like and the forwards should create more, but this is work in progress. Clearly, there are some good players out there, and some of the most inconsistent will try to better themselves. This is league two players for a reason.
Give Slade and the team at least until the new year to show improvement.
Then we take it from there.

I think you are slightly confused that many fans are more concerned about the running of the club, the lack of drive and enthusiasm from the club to the fanbase, as opposed to the team gelling on the pitch

I'll try not to sound as patronising as that reply when I say that the general tenet of the whole reaction appears to me at least to involve considerable criticism of every aspect of the team/management for last nights performance. The total hyperbole of "Player x (input relevant name) is the worst in x position I've ever seen" and repeated statements of "Slade out" suggests that many on here don't necessarily share your  ability to see that bigger picture.

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

Yep. I watched TV.

We're mid-table in League 2 and, yes, we've had tougher times (very recently). So why the gloom?

It's a funny one but I've been trying to put my finger on it.

I suppose it's this horrible sense of deja vu. It's Groundhog Day. It's like 2009 has run straight into 2017.

It's like the one good thing that's happened in those intervening years - promotion at Wembley - never actually happened.

I thought returning to the FL would somehow feel different off the back of a promotion, but it all feels worryingly familiar.

We've got an old manager signing old players, playing old tactics, and we're making old mistakes.

I used to think about the future of GTFC, years ahead of where we are. Right now I can't be arsed to check who we're playing after Lincoln.

I'm disinterested because I've seen it all before. I thought we could be different - in manager, approach, the way we're run.

But no. Same old Grimsby.

I love the club but right now it's doing its absolute best not to be loved.

Twitter account can't be arsed, social activity is dull, majority shareholder trying to control what people say, falling out with local media.

I thought a spell in non-league would shake us up, help us learn from our past mistakes.

So far it feels like we've learnt nothing and I feel like we've become a club that is, once again, just waiting to fall back into non-league.

Maybe not this season, maybe not next. But it'll happen unless we change our ideas from the very top.

Very good post - I sat there last night thinking that, apart from the painting - appropriately black, to capture the mood - of the railings on the Upper, nothing has changed. We seem to be sleepwalking into the wilderness with uninspiring football from moderate footballers in a defunct and dilapidated stadium with no direction. Any attempt to suggest that this might be the case is met with various mantras from those in authority that all will be fine when we get some football fortune.

Now I'm back behind a proper keyboard as opposed to tapping away on a phone, I'll give you a more considered response.

Surely, rather than creating a position where there can be no alternative, it would be better to show that the current regime has a plan to create a better club which respects its' stakeholders and has a vision for the future of Grimsby Town FC? The 'vague desire' to replace the current regime is driven by recent history and a fear of it repeating itself. If the board showed that it was looking proactively to prevent that happening, I'm sure the current unrest might cease.

Not sure why the atmosphere at B.P, is so flat it as been like that for years. Remember us changing ends in the forlorn hope that it had something to do with acoustics generated by the enclosed corner. Good results on the pitch equals incresed crowds always as done. Buckley was not always a crowd favorite but is teams played lovely football.

Same with chairman before Fenty Ramsden use to be slagged off to high evans, Furneaux was accused of being a bankrupt ex electrical boss who had no money and spent money he never had on the back of a television companies promise.  Huxford can't remember what happened there didn't last long though even less than his pier regeneration.

David Ross is mega rich but I don't believe he as any interest in GTFC.

Must be a Grimsby thing.

We're only allotted 70 fcuking odd years apiece, what percentage of those cnuts would you have us be patient for?

It's all very well pointing fingers and assigning blame, but nobody seems to offer any plan B. There simply isn't one other than a vague desire to replace the current regime. Nor do the critics ever band together to try and build some momentum around an alternative. Is snipping away from the sidelines going to achieve anything? At least if there is to be an opposition it needs to be organised and have clear goals.

Plan B...
Value your supporters.....DO NOT take them for granted
Play some players that excite the crowd wth pace guile and trickery..... excitement and andrenalin are addictive.
Use tactics that resemble something that is pleasing on the eye

Now you've confused him. Geir's Scandinavian, so he'll think you're talking about blokes called Canute/Knut.

Generally a board room coup leads to the ousting of the chairman/major  shareholder.
You would be pushed to notice that we have any other board members. They are so quiet do they deserve a place on the board?

Careful, I once used the car analogy to explain the shares fiasco and allegedly Fenty wanted my scalp.

Fenty needs to explain why he can't or won't turn the benign loans in to shares. Surely that would clear this major stumbling block for a future investor.

I've left it as a moot point Barra

"The company is considered to be controlled by Mr J S Fenty" is in the statement on the club website..

I wouldn't like to think a Fan's Trust could be controlled by anyone other than its elected members..

That's the trouble with JF, he won't listen to anyone and if they speak out, they lose their place on the board or, like on here, Freedom of speech is not allowed.

The dwindling gates are no coincidence!!

Surely this is the place to discuss it? It's a forum about opinions on Grimsby Town. There is a division between the fans on how the club is run.

Of course, but if people really want change they need to work together to achieve it. Operation Promotion was a superb achievement where the whole club came together. The ultimate example of change is FC United where a group of disgruntled fans formed a new club from scratch. I am not suggesting we do either of those things now, just pointing out what can be achieved though collaboration. We have some talented fans who possess a wide range of skills and together we have achieved some great things in the past where the Fishy has played an important role in bringing fans together.

Everyone who reads the above post should try to calm down and have a good think about what Rob has written. Every variation of criticism has been exhausted now and I think JF has got the message. Will he do anything about it? I doubt it. It's obvious the club needs change and instead of shrugging shoulders or sounding off, could there be a way with determination and a pooling of minds and talents that could effect change? Something positive to channel all the negativity and frustration into..

The whole club didn’t come together the fans came together. The club did jack excrement but charge what was it £1500 for the use of the pitch? The fans came together a year later for operation 3,000 for season tickets. Again the club did nothing. The fans came together again for Operation Mariachi the club did nothing, no support no PR stunt to pick up the tab. The fans make this club. The club and the way it runs and has done for the last 10 years stinks.

Its not minds that need pooling it's finances if the minority of Town fans who post on the Fishy want change.

Somehow I don't think JF has got the message. There's no sign of a change of heart over anything.

But getting back to Rob's point, I agree with you both. Generating practicable ideas and executing them is very, very hard though in a format like this. Something like OP was a relatively simple concept which lots of people could immediately buy into, but it had a limited, and simple aim - raise funds to help the promotion push. It was executed very well.

Coming up with 'Operation Change Control of the Club' is different order of complexity. (Even the bloody name is long-winded   )

One immediate thing, the disaffected fans can do is join the Trust. Cynical about that organisation achieving anything worthwhile? Then bloody well join, find like minded people, get on the Trust board and change the direction. If I remember my history right, before he seized power in Russia, Lenin and his cohorts took control of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party and turned it into a practical revolutionary movement ready to take power. I'm not suggesting by the way that all disaffected fans are Commies (I think a fair few are a 'little' more to the right than that   ) or sending the Non-Chairman to a Gulag (or Hull as it's known).

Or maybe do it the other way round. If like-minded disaffected fans met face-to-face, tried to find enough like minded souls, and then all joined the Trust in mass once you're confident in the numbers.

OK the next problem is how do you change control of the club if JF doesn't want to leave. That's where face-to-face meetings come into it. Where there's a will.

And yes I'm discounting finding a richer man who will pump millions into the club. In the long-run that just leads to disappointment.

I think we should club together and buy the Imp and open it as a fans hub before and after the games. A few swift ones before and after might help?

Regarding the bit in bold - the Trust had a chance to do something but voted not to do so. That's been done to death, it's history. The seat on the board is just a necessary inconvenience and powerless to achieve anything that disaffected fans may crave.
