Now 12 points behind Notts county, said all along slade would be a disaster, but people still what to give him time another season wasted. A new manager couldn't do much with that craap.

The fog did it's best to ease the pain of having to watch hoof after hoof. Fenty sat in the directors box in the upper Finuds saw more of the ball than those sat in the lower Findus, maybe he thinks he is getting value for money.

Anyone really got the stomach for Fenty to be the one to choose a new manager? We're fooked with Slade and fooked if we get rid of him..

I listened to his interview with JT and could not believe how upbeat he was. Said we were much the better side and should have won! He did have another go at Macca for not stopping the first goal though.

I listened as well and the only conclusion I can come to is that he is fighting for his job and is trying to put a positive spin on things.

I don't blame Slade - this team isn't the one he wanted due to financial restraints but I am surprised he hasn't welded them into a more positive hardworking unit. There is no tempo or drive or enthusiasm both on and off the field.

Slade forgets that football is an ENERTAINMENT. Fans want to watch a good game of football with plenty of chances and good movement, and hopefully a goal or two.

The last season under Hurst we use to play the ball around the back four to find space, fans were screaming for it to go forward instead. Now those same fans are complaining about the centre halves hoofing it forward. Be careful what you wish for.

Couldn't be bothered to post until now.

86 minutes of mediocrity, followed by 10 minutes when i woke up and paid a bit of attention. We never get last minute winners though do we? That's the sort of thing other teams do.

Dead on the pitch and dead off it, best summed up by my brother who said, "it's hard work being a fan of a sleeping midget"

Dont accept that at all. A manager is at his strongest when first appointed & if he wanted certain players out he should have insisted they go. He was always going to bring in Nathan Clarke, who is IMO not a better player then Pearson and is less mobile, Sam Kelly one of his first recruits should also be the first to leave, Dixon is the worst left back we have had since first year in the conference. He has an unbalanced squad and has failed to use players who I believe would make us a better team name Osbourne (K), Clements and Big Tom. DJ also not getting a fair crack and Sam Jones has to start.

I actually believe we will improve but my faith is getting stretched to its absolute limit and add in the fact that being at BP is like sitting in a church without the singing!!!

People saying how far behind Notts county we are, I don't think that's the main issue really. We have to be realistic and see that we have a mid table budget and are expected to finish around their. The main issue is (and the reason I didn't go to Newport) is the tactics or lack of. The lack of keeping the ball on the deck. I'm not deluded, I don't expect us to win every game but I do expect us to try play proper football. This is why I didn't go to the game I was ment to. Win lose or draw as long as we try to play football the right way I'm happier.

Let`s be honest Colchester are about as bad a side as you are likely to encounter in this league and I don`t know the stats but they seemed to pass the ball about far better than we did? Playing hoofball with forwards who don`t like to move and don`t win headers suggests you ain`t going to do very well at that either? The comments from fans leaving and all around where I was suggest Lincoln will be the end of the road for many if Town lose this team and these tactics are just not worth watching. The decision to get rid of Pearson is looking more and more like a massive error of judgement and Macca being no 1 we saw last Season if you bring in a better keeper it will pay off in points won.

There was no point saying anything at the time stating on here that Hurst was right when he said we’d been spoilt by some of the Football we’d been playing in the conference but I knew he was bang on or at least had a point. Slade as a fan mentioned on here last season looks at how teams in this division get promoted and it is not unfortunately through passing it round teams a lot of the time it’s winning ugly a lot of the time which gets you where you want to be.

Don’t think we’re strong enough in the middle of the park because for me our 3 best centre mids are all injured which isn’t Slades fault. He said in his interview he knows it wasn’t always pretty but sometimes it has to be ugly. It’s a game of small margins as ever. Dembele scores in the first half instead of hitting the inside of the post we’re saying great goal and/or if Jamille Matt scores his injury time winner and Town win I guarantee you’re all saying something along the lines of. ‘Not pretty but battled well and a good win, great goals from Dembele and Matt.’ Instead we didn’t take those chances and once again it’s this is the worst team in years, Fenty needs to go, clueless, wrong system, wrong shape, don’t run rings round teams enough.

It’s unfortunate but not the end of the world and we go again on Saturday and praying we get a positive result because the moaning is sooo boring (as is the football at times but that’s life).

Its simple really, every ball hoofed aimlessly forward percentage wise will be lost to the opposition, balls worked from defence through midfield to the strikers means retaining possession and not seeing the ball turned over to defend so much.

Last night we were poor but still had the greater number of chances to have won the game-----reason poor finishing, goal keeper error, wrong tactics and subs being too late to make a difference.

Some players did not put a shift in and were anonymous, that surely can`t be acceptable and it seems from his comments that Slade tried to gloss over what was a dull game, still looking fwd to Saturday,  though a bit of fire in the belly of some of our players would not go amiss

Agree, but there was no need to sack MB mid-season when we were mid-table in the first place! IMO it was only because Coventry sacked RS and he became available that JF made the decision to sack MB. At least MB was trying to experiment with some players and see how they coped in positions out of there comfort zone. Jones came as an attacking mid-fielder but MB played him as a striker and it worked. MB already sussed out that Berrett and Summerfield were not good enough and shipped them out on loan. RS has brought in 11 players and re-signed 2 so all this crap about his budget is irrelevant. Admittedly RS has been unfortunate with key injuries ( 2 MB signings ! ) but it doesn't gloss over the fact that most of his signings are not good enough. It would have been more cost effective to have paid off Berrett and Summerfield, kept Pearson and not signed Clarke ( who will be on more money than SP anyway ) and just signed 6 or 7 players. Lets face it the performances couldn't have been worse!

I'm now very much of the opinion that Slade is a fading force. On the field is bad enough, seeing combo after combo, formation re-shuffles galore and still no coherent system.
Off the field his comments are dismal, reading the GET after the Colchester game..

"We have been a little bit up and down.
We have got to stay in the mix, especially while we evolve, while we develop and while we find combinations.
There will be a few changes for the game.
It won’t be from a tactical point of view, but we need to get some fresh legs out there.
We don’t want to be stale. We want to get on the front foot."

That isn't a collection of Slade soundbites by the way, that's one interview.
He sounds desperate and out of ideas. We keep him on board and steady things for a mid-table finish but get that radar on for any fresh and upcoming management talent to step into the role in a flash (yes, like Bignot) is all I can suggest, being as honest and fair as I can.

Exactly. I know Bignot divided the opinions of the fanbase a bit, but he at least deserved the chance to see out the season. Let's be honest.. we were never going to go straight up again.. that just wasn't on the cards. So realistically a competitive mid-table finish was a desirable outcome and we were on track to do that, so what did we have to lose by letting him finish off the season? I just don't understand what the board thought that Slade was going to bring to the table given his lack of results in recent years.

I think Bignot was the more interesting proposition at this point with more chance to grow / develop / improve whereas it feels like Slade has probably peaked.

I said at the time I felt it was a bad decision and again I've seen precisely nothing that makes me feel I was wrong. Sure, we had a pretty decent pre-season but once again it proves that pre-season results count for nothing

This situation was inevitable from the day we signed him to replace Bignot.

Slade as a fan mentioned on here last season looks at how teams in this division get promoted and it is not unfortunately through passing it round teams a lot of the time it’s winning ugly a lot of the time which gets you where you want to be.

I'm sorry but this is nonsense. I don't see any evidence of long-ball teams pissing this league. We were passed off the park last season by Portsmouth, who were quicker to the second balls and moved it around better than any team I saw in L2. I just don't think this theory holds water anymore.

But my point is that he had a list of first choice targets and they knocked him back because we wouldn't pay the going rate.

Most teams at this level aren't able to spend half of what Portsmouth did on players so that's a slightly false comparison.

That said, traditional long-ball stuff certainly isn't going to be enough, especially as we don't have the players for it in any case.

I think it's a case of playing it along the ground when we can, putting it long when necessary and then making sure we pick up more of the second balls off the forwards to get the wingers involved. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the strikers have enough of a threat for this and the central midfield isn't dynamic enough at present either. Wingers also need to achieve more as we don't have the legs at full-back to get up into attack all the way through the game. Quite a lot missing, really.

Slade was obviously attempting to get the team to play 4-2-3-1 during the earlier games of the season but that hasn't worked out so we appear to be onto plan B already!

Agree we miss the full backs adding to the attacking threat. Dixon hardly ventures over th halfway line. Davies does get forward a bit and puts crosses in but is the caught out on the break if we lose it. Need Mills back and we certainly miss Andrew on the left.

Can't keep changing managers every 6 months again, that's the shite that got us relegated. Drop the debt and clear the boardroom.

I believe that we were relegated because we didn't replace Neil Woods.

I just don't understand what the board thought that Slade was going to bring to the table given his lack of results in recent years.

You’re assuming that this appointment was a board decision rather than what it actually is - a Fenty appointment (and yet another bad one) that will ultimately cost the club financially (due to reduced gates and the inevitable pay off when Slade is eventually sacked), which will yet again be ‘funded’ by even more ‘benign loans’.

When the time comes for Slade to be given his P45 any pay off should come out of Fenty’s own pocket rather than him lending the club even more money to pay for this.

Unfortunately, we’ve then got the same overarching problem within the club (Fenty) making the next appointment.

Until the club is rid of Fenty we will continue to stagnate and slowly die.

4 winless league games as caretaker, before 16 more as permanent manager. (Newell's last 5 games made it a magnificent 25 game run in total)

And of course, the caretaker spell also included that Bath game.

Just listened to the start of it but gave up after a few seconds.

From the Fishy :-

TOWN caretaker boss Neil Woods's chances of becoming Grimsby manager on a permanent basis look to be all but dashed after the Mariners sunk to another low with a 2-0 cup exit to Bath City. Town were deservedly beaten by the non-leaguers, who outplayed them for large spells of the game.

Bath scored from a free kick on 31 minutes. Poor defending by the Mariners allowed Holland the time and space to head the ball past Colgan.

Danny North replaced the Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro after half time, but it still took Grimsby until 74 minutes to get a shot on target.

Before then though Bath had doubled their lead. Edwards latched on to a loose ball in the box, which deflected off Boshell past the hapless Colgan.

Grimsby now face Leeds United on Tuesday in the JPT and desperately need to find a new manager before their next league game at Northampton on Saturday. Former boss Russell Slade is a leading contender for the post after formally applying this week.

I would have expected him to have done

He rescued Brighton when they were all but dead and buried and now look at them

Maybe he's not got a promotion on his CV but then again, neither does he have a relegation to blot his copybook

Still trying to get my head round Slade's post match comments that we were the much better side last night. I think he's losing the plot.

Colchester were shite...so were GTFC. Play like that on Saturday and we will be humiliated.

We have the oldest back four in the history of football with little mobility. We are devoid of any attacking ideas apart from hoofing hopeful 50 yard balls for our strikers to try and win what are no better than 50/50's. No creativity in the middle of the park and the only flair is on the wings but we dont get them into the game enough.

Slade has built up a big squad of over 30 players but already the centre midfield area looks woefully inadequate. Plenty of endeavour in the team, cant knock them for that, and i think there is some quality in there somewhere but the tactics leave me numb.

gates are dwindling and fans are voting with their feet. Its boring to watch and not even getting results. Colchester were poor last night and in the end we have had to salvage a late point. Simply not good enough.

Slade has never won a promotion in his career...and the signs are he is dong nothing to threaten that record. I take the point over constantly changing managers rarely leads to success but sometimes (like Bignot) you have to quickly realise the current manager is not the right one.

Could somebody point out the link to the interview for me? I've checked the BBC site and can't seem to find it. They don't seem to attach it to the match reports any longer.

Listening to it, he was certainly bigging up the positives a bit too much but I agree with him that we were the better team on the night, albeit marginally so.

Not sure I'd agree we've looked 'rock solid' in the past few games at home though which was his comment at the end!

Looking back to Tuesday night now, a couple of days later....

We should actually have won the game. Don't remember Macca having to make a save apart from their goals (obviously one nightmare for him). And we had chances through Dembele just before half time, and a couple of others during injury time in the second half.

It doesn't disguise what was for me a poor performance lacking any quality.

I was expecting Slade to say post-match that we weren't at our best but still should've won the game.

The problem with moaning is when it stops it means people don't give a excrement and the club dies, is that what you want because the signs are people are voting with their feet and money by not attending and making their message quite clearly, they aren't going to put up with excrement football. If you are happy with whats on offer excrement in your hands and clap away.

I'm not saying anything about not letting the powers that be know how you're feeling but incessant bitching on the fishy isn't likely to force slade out . The only thing that will is a run of results that make us look like going down . And we're not near that yet .

There were 2 blokes near us discussing who was the best Dr out of Foster and Martin and how sad it was that Vera Duckworth had died, all match. Sad thing was that it was more interesting listening to that than watching the game.

After about twenty minutes..my Mrs.. who i had taken along for what i think was her first ever proper Town game....turned to me and said..
"its not very pretty is it ? "

I am not saying she was ever going to be a potential new customer but that was her first impression of this team......and when she says it isnt very pretty..... she has watched me play local footy for over 25 yrs so she certainly knows ugly football when she sees it.
